teams of 5 players will reduce the value and prestige of the tournament imo.

In what way?

I assume he probably meant in the same that other people have already said.

That is if you have teams of 5 the variance will increase and luck will play a greater role.

I don"t think the team championship should be able to be decided by a couple of members of a team getting particularly lucky or unlucky - teams of 10 rather than 5 ensures this.

Firstly many congrats to APAT on the success of this event. The amount of teams wanting to be part of it is fantastic. As Dave (teamdobbs)has just said whatever is decided its not going to satisfy everyone. Maybe the APAT team event needs to go to regional with a North, Midlands, and Southern section with then the top 3 in each section going through to the finals. Obviously not for this year though  :)

Good luck in choosing the teams.

Who needs Xfactor when you have APAT :)

It would not be fair to exclude an entire community due to the actions of one of their members, so in my opinion John"s post above is not valid.

As with a high percentage of posts on this forum, the debate here has been largely varied and fair. This event does differ from the others on our schedule as one of its key objectives is to create a bit of excitement around APAT amongst the UK poker communities.

For that reason I would always envisage the major forums having a place, in addition to those who have a strong APAT member base.  APAT too, should always have a place.  Inevitably some forums who wish to participate may be disappointed.

That said, I will look at each of the forums over the weekend to see what level of interest this Championship has created and we will finalise the team selection on Sunday.

I should add that we will look at the 20 team / 8 player option also.

Teams of 5 would suck imo. Teams of 8 not so bad.

How about an online qualifier for the 30+ teams who don"t get automatic entry, with the top 10+ (or however many you end up having) winning a place on the day?

wouldn"t detract from the competition to have teams of 8 instead of 10, but would make a huge difference for the members of the 4 additional teams that could enter.

Thanks Des.

If this competiton is all about promoting APAT amongst the major Poker Forums etc..., why are we having a debate, APAT should just invite the largest forums to take part, which will generate the most exposure and be done with it.

This is fine, as it"s APAT's party but maybe it should be renamed the APAT Team Championship rather than the UK Team Championship, as not all teams will be able to take part that would like too.

Another option maybe would be to have some regional team championships but I guess the work involved would be too much to run additional events on top of the current excellent schedule of events that we have.

:D Easy now  - there aren"t even 10 "major" forums, so I don"t think there"s any reason to lose perspective on the issue.
