how did i play this and what's the villain's range?
« on: December 28, 2009, 00:07:11 AM »
Hi, opinions would be welcome on how i played this micro stake cash game hand. I have no reads on the villain as its the 3rd hand since I sat down...opinions specifically on how I played it and what his range is would be welcome

As played i cannot fault u for folding..At this level i have no respect what so ever for limpers who min raise flops, mostly i find a lot of players at this buy in min raising tripe like top pair weak kickers or even mid pair..So my line here i"d either 3bet the turkey on the flop and if he gets jiggy and 4bet reraises or goes all in i"ll call, if he just calls our 3 bet then any turn i"d fire out 2/3 to 3/4 pot and still get it in if villain comes along.Or i"d just call his rr and cc any bets on turn and river...As played u cc turn, check fold is not the best way on the river imo.bet fold would be better imho if u read him for a maybe flush, but his overbet smells to high heaven [plus limp pre then min raise flop] so i"d call at least [me i"d rr all in :)]
What has he got - Kx ATC TJ TQ T9 T8 T7s T6s JQ AT AJ Axs - the line villain takes plus the river and the fact u have not really shown any strength then i"d favour him on Kx or TJ TQ T9 T8 T7s T6s and bluffing , call the idiot at least..

Re raise on flop and call if he shoves

as played i"d probably lead out On the turn even though it may have already completed a flush it would only be a probe bet and his call shuts  me down gor not a penny more in the hand unless we fill up on the river.  As played I"d Lead 1/3 of the pot on the river and hope he calls with something worse than my 2 pair. If he re raises you on river thn it"s an easy fold. Even a min raise.

3bet the flop for sure, when you flop 2 pair it is hard for villain to have a set or bigger 2 pair.

as played i think the rest is fine
Looking forward to making my first day 2

I guess the line i was taking was "please dont let the river be a 4th spade"
If it hadn"t been I"m calling all day as I didn"t put the guy on a made flush on the turn. I checked the turn to avoid being 3bet on the turn aswell - calling a 3bet on flop AND river becomes very tough.

Not that it matters but the donkey showed me 10-6 hearts (complete air) for the bluff. He was doing similar things for the next 40-50 hands or so, so managed to take some cash off him in the end.

Perhaps this was a good spot for a river blocker bet. I agree with above that a river bet may have been better then a check. Thinking about it if the guy has the ace of spades he"s have value bet it on the river and not shoved. If he has a spade lower then Q then he"s probably checking behind alot or again value betting. Thinking it through I probably could"ve called the shove. I think the best route though would be a blocker bet on the river.

dont get into the habit of block bets [i assume u mean 1/2 pot ish] as the better players [even some of bad ones] will see it for what it is and shove on you putting you to a difficult decision.. I"d opt to value bet 1/3 ish to induce bluffs or at least have some pot control [get to showdown] or check raise all in if i read a donk getting all fancy dan..
You played the turn fine  , only the flop imo could of been played more aggressive.

edit - also consider the turn check you made how it looked to him, his bet size which you cc and again u checking the river and his spewy bet ,, added with limp pre , a min raise on flop , all adds up to FPS , these turkeys at this buy in play way to many hands 3 bet 67 78 89 9T etc off suit and suited way to much and bluff the rivers with way to much frequency.. [not good for 0.10/0.25 buy in]
