« on: January 07, 2010, 10:41:12 AM »
If you haven"t yet voted in the APAT Awards 2009, you have a bit of time left to get the votes in.

APAT Awards 2009

But what about those that came so close to getting a nomination ?

Feel free to add to this thread for all those that just missed out in a category this year.

Player Of The Year

Daniel Phillips

Kinboshi made three dinner breaks during 2009.  Granted, one of those was because the casino moved the dinner break to 5pm, but still, that"s an unbelievable achievement from the Season 1 Champion.

Best Member Performance At An APAT Event

Richard Rudling-Smith

During the European Team Championships in Luton, Welsh representative Rudders achieved greatness.  He beat Tighty into 2nd place in the buffet queue.  The scene was electric, the rail was in shock.  Could this be repeated in season 4 ?  Rudders is in Winter training as we speak, so perhaps.

Mair"s contribution to the Scottish National Championship update should not go unnoticed, although if you had logged on to the live update late on day one, you may have struggled to notice nothing.

Mary Martin. The Live Update at the Gala Maybury was 19 pages long. It had survived the pies. It had survived the updater rushing to the front of the queue, failing and thus queue-barging towards an enormous plate of sandwiches, successfully. From the corner of my eye I spotted said member on a white mobile phone perusing the update. Hours of my life lovingly invested in purple prose and flirting with Players wives.

I refreshed the page "The page you are looking for is not available. Thread has been deleted" I prepared my excuses to MeinFuhrer Duffy. His dreams of exponential increases in forum traffic lay in tatters, at the tips of my fat fingers so I thought. Sweat beading my brow I looked for a work around, and discovered the fatal words "Thread deleted by Moderator xxMairxx" Half relieved it was not me, I sauntered over the the far table and and enquired gently of said member, in lilting dulcet tones betraying no hint of my frustration,

"What the f%%% have you done? Nineteen bloody pages up in smoke"

Said member was very apologetic, and of course it was a genuine mistake.

It is nevertheless, a travesty that said performance is not available to be voted on in the 2009 awards.

To have missed out on nominations in two categories for the same "incident" means Mair must have been close to the player of the year shortlist.   ;)

John Murray

John finished 5th in the Portsmouth Snooker Club £10 rebuy in 2009.  This performance secured John a place in the Irish and APAT teams during season 3.  The man is a machine.

George Bedi

George made the final table of the Pokerstars Sunday Million earlier this year pocketing over $28k.  An amazing achievement from an APATer.  Then Rob Swindells finished 2nd in the Pokerstars Sunday WarmUp taking home over $95k.

George who ?

Best Poker Tour

The Black Country Poker Club

More of a "specific" tour, this series of events is sure to continue to grow and take on the big guns in the future.

You may not have heard about them, but they do exist.  ;)

For years a mild mannered accountant, slaving away over cash flow forecasts, book-keeping entries and following Labradors with a poop-a-scoop, Leigh Wiltshire"s life was transformed when, on a fateful March day, he found himself with the kit to record online interviews and a microphone in his hand. From that point on no APAT member was safe. Thrusting said equipment into the interviewee"s faces from a great height, Leigh developed an interviewing style part Alan Whicker and part Michael Parkinson as interviews touched on travel information, local colour and somewhat lighter tabloid fare. Occasionally poker was even mentioned too.

For Season 4 it is rumoured that APAT have invested in a mobile studio and freelance cameramen to further enhance the new working life of this new interviewing professional. A deal has been struck with Sky for the interviews to appear on Channel 865 to provide sensible poker content at a fraction of the price Sky currently receives it. Albeit minus the female presenters.

From here, for Leigh Wiltshire it is onwards and upwards, as long as Mrs Wiltshire does not need him to stand in the background at a dog rescue stand in a field in Dorset.

LOL slight over-exaggeration, and it twas Des who sidled over to me enquiring did I delete it, I was, of course, mortified, felt quite sick tbh and thought you would kill me (prayed you wouldnt).

I am sure, even tho you all laughed your heads off, underneath you were cursing me quite well Rich.

I ended up going on tilt and had to remove myself from my table for a good 30 mins to compose myself.

Needless to say one has never logged into the APAT forum again via her mobile, rather browses as a guest.

Shoulda got the award for "Total idiot of 2009"

The casino got everything spot-on with their Keystone Cops organization.
