views on this hand welcome
« on: January 17, 2010, 22:49:38 PM »
This is a 90 man 8.80 game. 35ish players left. Blinds 100-200 with 25 ante. The player in the pot with me has been pretty aggressive. Stats of 32/22 ish. Aggressive 3betting and afew squeeze plays in the mix aswell. The hand before this one he"d just KO"d someone and picked up a substantial num of chips. The BB was very tight.

I"d probably bet the same pre. Maybe 500 or 525

I"d be checking this down all the way though. It isn"t a great hand but does have some showdown value. If che ked to river I"d probably call a pot sized bet for value but expect to see an overpair from villian. Maybe 10 10 +

I"d imagine bb would 3 bet pre with ak/aq hand as well as jj>kk maybe slow play aces oop

Yea I dnt understand y u dnt c/bet flop?  Ur hand is vulnerable and u r ok just taking it down right there.

As played u gta fold to the shove.  All u cn really beat in this spot is a hand like Jd10d.

I thought I should bet the flop. I mistakenly thought at the time that because I had a piece of the flop I wanted to get to showdown pretty cheap, so checked to keep the pot small. Obviously the villain had other ideas on the turn.

His shove makes no sense though? What is he 3bet shoving on the turn with? An overpair? Unlikely? Broadway cards - unlikely. A 9? Wouldn"t you smooth call or raise a smaller amount? As I bet weakly on the turn with alot of chips behind you wouldn"t want to push me off this hand with, say a set, so I discount this also. Again a smooth call or raise thats not all in, makes sense with a set.
Also he insta shoved, and didn"t think about it at all

Raise a bit more Pre (550), C bet, and fold to the shove. Although your hero call is probs gonna win?

I guess I"m wondering if my thinking is reasonable here in narrowing the range.

I discount broadway cards - because an all in shove here would be a spew
Ax diamonds is possible but again it would be reckless shoving this with one card to come no?
Maybe some weird open ender, but again shoving with one card to come after I"ve shown some interest seems terrible
Big pair/middle pair unlikely as he"s an aggressive player who would probably have 3bet preflop
Small pair is unlikely as, again a shove is reckless after I"ve shown interest, and a set is unlikely as you"d likely raise smaller to keep me in the hand

I put this guy on a diamond draw, or a bluff?

Perhaps the other dynamic to consider is, as mentioned, he"d just won a decent pot to increae his stack by 50% and KO"d someone. Often, if such a player shows interest in the very next hand, they often have something. The last thing even terrible players like doing is spewing off a stack after just winning it

as per every1 else easy fold shoz..Try to get away from tracker in mtts and concentrate more on looking/following the action and watching showdowns. This will help far more in getting a feel for villains styles/ability and if they have set patterns that u can use against them..
In low buy in mtts stick to ABC poker, bet when u have it,or u get the right texture flop to cbet etc etc of course u can mix in bluffs [but not to many] when/if after a few showdowns the table has seen u have the goods and u pick the right opponent who can fold.
Pretty much 100% cbet this situation , u have TPTK which is vulnerable [any 9 T J Q K on turn is not good] if he calls flop depending on turn card and his action u can either try to get to 5th street for cheap showdown or bet/fold turn..
TBH as played i"d go along with deans line and check turn..Without any info on how villain has played previous hands it is hard to imagine 1 pair good here.

ok thanks. I guess I"m overthinking this one. It should have been an easy fold especially mid/late stage with a reasonable stack to continue with after folding this.
He shoved Q9o so I busted.

In hindsight, if I"d bet the flop, he may have folded, but if he called, he just may have checked the turn allowing me to get out of the hand cheaply. Terrible mistake by me. It was useful to have the views to confirm this
