Is this the new standard play
« on: January 23, 2010, 18:23:23 PM »
I have been playing a lot of cash games online recently, only 0.05:0.10 and 0.10:0.25 limits. I have started to see a trend, That when you make standard late position raise, (button, cutoff) and sb or bb call they donk lead. I have been noticed it lots maybe just at these level. I have just started pumping the raise over the top, which seems to be effective and showing a profit.

Has anyone else noticed it?

Ive noticed it recently. Think about it, they havent flopped a set or a 2 pair, because they are going to check raise instead of donk lead. Every now and then a new move comes into play, then everyone starts doing it, then people start exploting it, then it becomes part of the Metagame.

Donk lead and 4-bet ftw.

Donk lead and 4-bet ftw.

sorry, why is this a donk lead?

if you have a feeling for the player as weak in general or tight and playing AK and the board flops 842, why would you not lead out?

I think the term donk, lead is when you flat call OOP and bet lead into the raiser! Is how they decrive it the HUDs ect.

I guess it is situtational but i do see it sooooo often!!

Yeh I agree I am sseing it a bit at Stars, but sometimes I lead out and it hasn"t been unprofitable to me so far, I particularly target min stacks with this as they dont like to get it in unless they hit.

I suppose I still have a lot to learn

Yeah confusing as you tend to think a Donk is a bad play or player, but the phrase Donk lead or Donking into someone, seems to be "de rigeur" at the moment.

I can remember Gus hansen in his aussie millions book doing this "donk lead" on a few occasions.
He goes on to say somthing like there is a unwritten rule that people always check to the raiser, but he likes to break the rules or somthing along those lines i think.

I highly doubt this move is + ev because you are just building up a pot oop with no clue what you opponent has. And if he has AK then i dont think he will fold to be honest.

Dont get  me wrong I think there is defo a time and a place for it! But I have found it to be exploitable in these mirco stakes cash games.
