Suck Outs
« on: January 27, 2010, 09:18:38 AM »
Just chatting with Crizz on the forum yesterday about the fact that everyone remembers bad beats but forget or ignore their suck outs. So lets post our suck outs as well as our beats, and then we can see how things even out!
Okay so I"ll start.
Last night single table SNG, on the bubble, I shove with AK, get called by A4, flop 4Q8 rainbow, I was cursing at this stage, turn 10, river the beautiful Jack. I then went on to take down the $25 for first prize! :D

Not a suck out - money went in pre wen u had the best hand.

I think tht if players are going to take the game seriously, they need to not really give either too much thought.  With the sheer volume of hands played, the mathematical improbabilities will happen, on both sides of the coin.  Focus should just have to remain on trying to get ur money in good at all stages, regardless of the outcome.

Poker is a game of probability - hand XX will beat hand YY nn% of the time.... but it will also lose a certain nn% of the time too. Getting hung up on either the win or the loss in a specific individual hand is a waste of emotion, and leads to tilt.      It"s tough, and I"m only now beginning to learn this, but after a suckout or bad-beat but you simply just have to reload the cash table, or start a new SNG, and keep on playing - there really is no point in dwelling on the bad beat loss (or the fluky win).

My best ever suck-out I DO remember.
Forget the positions but I think I was in the blinds and decided to call a button raise with   jd   9d.

Board comes  kd   kh   qd   and I checked.  He made a small bet and I called.

Turn came the   kc   and I checked again and he makes another small bet.

River comes the   td   and I bet just under the pot.  He shoves and I........errrmmm........I called !!

He showed  ks   8h   ........and then called me a fish !!

I tried to explain that he should try looking at his bet-sizing.........but he had gone !!

Heads up in local casino. He was chip lead but not by much maybe 4 or 5 bb with about 25bb each.   Offered a chop  £350 for him, me for £300 (was £450 1st and £200 for 2nd) but opponent said no. Next hand I"m dealt ace 3 in sb and raise 3 bb. He flat calls. 233 flop. He opens and I call. 2 turn. He shoves. I call. He has AA. River blank.

Ummm, chop? he says - what do you think I reply. Tell you what I"ll buy you a pint from my winnings (taken from a post on these very forums)

Next hand he shoves and I call with AA.  Job done. He stormed off before I could buy him the drink.

Best/worst I witnessed was my 1st final table in another casino. Me and my mate are in final 3 from 50 runner re buy tourney. Both have stacks that crush the 3rd player. Other guy limps on the button. My mate raises from sb and I fold. Other player shoves for his last chips and my mate calls with AK. Villian has KK.
QQx flop Q turn Q river

OK despite my previous post about ignoring these beats I will post this one.... (just for Tod!).

Walsall APAT last year. Headsup. Equally stacked with around 1m each. Tod opens and I re-raise all in with 79s. Tod calls with KQ. Flop QJx. Oops.   Turn 8. River 10. Runner runner straight lands, and the rest is history..

Running good vs running bad.
The best example of variance during the same session happened in september 09. it was televised 2 nights ago on sky sports 2 i belive, and it not surprisingly involved durrrr. At one point during the session he was stuck 300k. He went on to finish 650k up. so thats almost a million $ swing. very entertaining.

I"ve All but given up poker for the moment but my mate dragged be down the gala on monday night for my first live game in abut 3 months lol... anyway...

bout 20 left and i manage to get my 20k stack in the middle after a shorter stack c10k haad shoved to my right only for me to be called by the only person covering me still with cards.

Me  JJ

Shorty KQ

Chippo QQ

(Sure did enjoy when a guy mucked but exposed QJ :| )

First Card out was a King, Followed by the Case Jack(Oh ye i run so good after 3 month break :P)

Left the other 2 all but dead and i was happy as could be, ended up chopping for £160 4 handed which was not bad work for a £10 game xD

Mentioned this on another thread, but in live cash games I"ve never lost with KK v AA when all the money"s gone in pre-flop.

Now that"s running pretty good imo.

too many to mention for me. I always get my money in bad and suck out enough times to make it profitable ;)
