North West Poker Groups
« on: February 21, 2010, 12:48:31 PM »
My husband and I recently bought a new build in a small village south west of Manchester only 5 minutes from M60 and 15 minutes into Trafford.  I am excited about the move north from Bristol, but honestly gutted to leave my South West poker group.  The group meets regularly for home games, and runs a monthly tournament with an average of 30-40 runners.  The standard of play is consistently better than you pick up in a Casino for low buy-in (average £25) - so I am keen to find a similar group in the North West.

Google doesn"t seem to return anything, anybody from the Manchester/Liverpool area here that can point me in the right direction?

Hi Noe
Unfortunately all I can do here is offer a "Welcome to manchester".

There are the usual pub leagues but I dont know of any poker groups in the area and certainly none that come anywhere close to what Bristol offers.

Best bet AFAIK would be the G in Manchester which has a reasonable schedule, though I rarely go so cant testify to the quality of competition.

There is a fantastic looking, very traditional looking, pub so close to my new home, I could spit on it - The "Windmill Inn".  Perhaps they offer something.  Perhaps we can get a sponsor like South West have and kick off a local grass roots group, as I do love the sense of community and familiarity, standard of play, etc the group offer.

Bristol was fantastic, but really looking foward to exploring Manchester and Liverpool.

Thanks for the welcome.  Perhaps you and I can meet up for my first "Manchester" Casino experience.  Expect to be moved in 6-8 weeks.

I have played at the aforementioned G Casino Manchester  a few times.
The standard of players vary from complete novices to a few sharks regulars. Obviously not up to the standard of your average APAT event.
They are fun events with friendly folk. There is a tourney every night at 9pm and also saturday and sunday afternoons at 3.
Friday night often gets over 120 entrants (I think it is a £10 + £4 registration fee and 1 re-buy/add-on for £5), many of whom are people having a fun night out with no chance of cashing.

I don"t know if they still do it but I believe there was a £150 buy-in tourney on the first sunday of every month last year.

You are not going to fit in with the Cheshire Set, behaving like that

Blackpool "G" have an excellent £100 deepstack on last Saturday of each month with usually well over 150 runners.

3pm start, 15k chips , 40 min blinds, free meal....best 1 day comp in the UK I beleive. Next Saturday(27th) is the next one and well worth the 45 min or so drive from where you are.

Yeah, that Blackpool event sounds great.  Booked my Swansea hotel, hoping I get a spot.
