Blackpool Grosvenor --Review Sunday Comps.
« on: May 29, 2007, 00:46:46 AM »
Sunday 27th May

It was my dads birthday, he loves poker but never really gets a chances to play in big comps, so I decided to take him to Blackpool and pay him into the £30 F/O as a Bday present.
The day goes like this,....

2.45 £5 PL Rebuy

I am in shock as I sit down and we have 1000 chips and the blinds are 50/100. Ten big blinds to start with, this is not a good start to the day. The table I am on is a very friendly table, it is not you normal snarlalot rebuy event...Lots of donkeys...

I played the very 1st hand and took down a pot of 500..It would be fair to say that the field was full of SLAGS (Super Loose Aggressive) ;D. The next hand I played was on the next level, a whole 50 minutes later... I got QQ utg.. I bet the pot, and got raised and then the raiser got reraised. One observasionary fellow noticed that this was the second hand I had played and warned them that I must of held "a goodun",, The raiser held 22 and the re raiser held J10,,,, My QQ held ,, trebled up..... Afer that I got fairly aggressive. I moved all in with with my AK after hitting my King on the rainbow flop, and got called by bottom pair.... He said good hand mate, got up and walked off,,, he hit a str8 on the river,, and I had to say to him (as he walked past me) nice one,,, you just hit your straight.. Well that was me out...

8.45 £30 F/O DC

This was again full of donkeys....Although the structure was very good... A starting stack of 3000 and an extra 3000 at any time (of course we took it at the start~). The clock was a 45 minutes for the 1st 2 levels and then 20 minutes from there on in. There was a lady on the table who had not played poker in a competitive format before,  Hmm .. Time to get in any pots with her...This worked, it was almost like a queue for her chips every time she entered a pot...My tournament was ended when I looked down and held 10 10 on the BB,, I got raised by the button, I reraised thinking he was on a steal, he moved all in, I called.... He had A7... Spiked an Ace....Out... Grrrrr.........My dad and I never won nothing, but we had a good time..

Overall the Casino had excellent facilities. They are just putting all of the final fixtues and fittings in to make it DDA compliant.

The mixture of location (right on the front) and two competitions make this an excellent choice for a good Sunday of poker. The only bad thing is work the next day...

great report

i have found the 5 rebuy to be a donkement of the highest order, when i have played there, is it still pot limit? definatley a rebuy rumble. that was the first live tourny i ever played and not having played either live or pot limit before came 10th (beginers luck)

however the freeze out is a good structure, and always enjoy it , even if i do keep going out on the bubble  :)

Meant to go on sunday but my 18th place finish in the apat dutch open drained me, btw they are having a mini festival at the end of june to relaunch as a G casino, i think the main event will be a £200.00 freezeout if anyones interested

Sounds like a nice spot. Is there a web page, or any other information.

I have played there too a couple of years ago when down on a holiday. Its a really nice casino. Was one of the first times i had played live but enjoyed it even though i hardly played a hand (terrible cards that day) and went out early. Good to hear its still being played.
Remember.....its just a game!!!!
