How come you guys havent thought of something like this?

http://www.vacationrentals.com/vacation-rentals/27121.html

The LPM did this in 2007, going out 18 handed (as I recall) and rented a huge place with 11 bedrooms. The cost for the rental, per person, was roughly equivalent to staying at a hotel (Harrahs for instance).

Where we did lose out was the costs of getting to and from the Strip. Unless you hire a car (more expense) then you are limited to taxis and although going out in groups can alleviate this cost, it does add a great deal of hanging around and transit time. You would be surprised at how may cab drivers don"t know their way around outside of the Strip.

Even with a rental car, you are limited to going out en masse or leaving someone behind to make their own way.

Renting looks attractive but is really only worth it for longer term stays (say 1 month and up).

Right, having looked at corresponding flights in the weeks leading up to 17th. It looks like £614 isn"t going to last for long so I have decided to book today.

See you all on the 17th at Manchester Airport 8.30am for first beer??????

Anybody know if the airlines ever discount the indirect flights?

Paulie"s post reminded me because I just recently withdrew £1000 from a poker site which is my budget for flight and hotel for Vegas. Obviously I"m not paying for the hotel until I pay the credit card bill that I pay the hotel with, but I am tempted to book the flight now - if there"s no chance of me getting a discounted indirect flight there"s not much point in me putting it off.

In answer to your question Jon. I imagine that parts of the journey may be discounted, but I think you would be lucky for both the internal and international parts to be discounted at the same time.

However Paulie will know better than me

Nah....I"m rich I am!

One of those things...I pay everything from a separate a/c from my day to day expenses and just fund the expenses a/c by standing order. So all I see is one amount going out and what"s left is gravy.

It"s probably been building up for a couple of years...I just don"t look at that expenses a/c that often...it runs itself.

I"m sure they do....but by segment. That is to say that you might find a discounted flight to NY, Chicago or Dallas, etc.

You"d have to work out the connection for yourself. They probably aren"t going to offer you a discount if you book the connecting flights together as a single transaction.

Of course, working out the connections is the fun part. Since you can try and score discounts from different airlines. The hassle is that your luggage has be be re-checked (if you use two airlines) and you might have added time due to changing terminals.

Like I said, fun.

Look at the old version (still live) of the ITA Matrix site....it has a "Month" search function to show you the cheapest flights for any 30 day period.

Just remember to change the sales city to LON

Cheapest for November 2011 is (currently) £614 which is about what you"d pay on Virgin (cattle class).

That"s not to say that sales won"t appear later in the year though.

Phil

I walked round there last year and it"s very tired and shabby. We we"re originally going to stay there but changed, which we were all v. pleased about.
