Scoring Scheme
4 - Individual points will be allocated to the top nine finishing players at each match. The individual points will be allocated as 9 points for a player finishing in 1st position, down to 1 point for a player finishing in 9th position.
5 - A maximum of four players per club can score individual points in any one match. Should five players reach points scoring positions, the lowest of those points scorers will receive 0 individual points, and individual points will be allocated to the next best finisher. In this example, the player finishing in 10th position would receive 1 individual point.
6 - Individual points will be totalled for every match and the club finishing with the most individual points will receive 3 match points. The club finishing with the second most individual points will receive 2 match points. the club finishing with the third most individual points will receive 1 match point. No other clubs will score match points.
7 - Where clubs finish with an equal number of individual points, match point allocation will be sorted in the following order: a) The club who has the most individual points scorers will be deemed to finish ahead. Should this not separate the clubs, b) The club who has the highest single individual points scorer will be deemed to finish ahead.
given this the chances of winning the division are pretty slim, we need to make up 5 points on luton. however to do so we need the final table to consist of what?

as if we had more our individual points drop to the next highest ranked in other teams?
with 22 runners luton are always likely to score 1 or 2 points every match.

Not quite.
Each matchday has 3pts for 1st place, 2nd for 2nd, 1 for 3rd place. In order for a club to score a "matchday point" the club needs to have players in the top 9 (normally final table)
As far as the points go it is 1st place scores 9pts, 2nd scores 8points, etc, down to 9th scoring 1pt. A club can only have a maximum of 4 scoring players in any one matchday...the 5th player wouldn"t count.
Once these are totted up then the matchday points are awarded..
for example -
1st place - notts, 9pts
2nd - luton 8
3rd - notts 7
4th luton -6
5 leeds - 5
6 sunderland -4
7 sunderland -3
8 leeds -2
9 sunderland -1
So..
Nottingham score 16points
Luton scores 14points
Sunderland 8
Leeds 7
therefore - Notts score 3 matchday points, Luton 2 points, sunderland 1 point.

The league at present is 15 luton, 11 to Notts and Sunderland, Leeds on 7. 2 games to go - Max 6pts.
Luton need 2 matchday points to secure the league title. Notts and Sunderland need to ensure Leeds don"t score in Matchday 9 and they"ll be both be promoted.
