Another fantastic weekend with the APAT gang, though sorry to see many were still nursing post Vegas symptoms and didn"t make it. Had an amazing time with my Team Glasgow mates Chas & Alex, brilliant seeing old friends again and getting to know others a bit better.
The game itself started very well and I was fairly early up to 21k, making a few good bets and river calls and getting some nice hands. All was good till Johnny Zaib on my left was moved then replaced by the CL Asa not long after. I then lost around 5k of my stack in few hands but still felt things were healthy enough and I was playing well. Had a great table, good chat, good play and good people.......then we got split and i ended up on a table with pretty regular raising going on at my right while I ran completely card dead. The table included 2 of the final 3 (Laura and Yangran) and many new faces I"d never played before. I recall getting 10/3os 4 hands in a row and over a period of 2 hours eventually asked the dealer to give me any sort of hand without a 3 in it, or at least give me another of his friends for company
Unfortunately just before 10pm I got the dreaded AJ with only 11 BBs in an open cut off only to run into Laura"s AA on the BB. Most bizarre hand of the weekend was actually in the 7pm casino game on the Sunday night. With A2 and a 3/5/8 flop, which went check check. 350 chips in middle, I bet 200 on turn when 4 came down and gave me straight. Now at this point the tourney break had just started and others were vacating the card room. My opponent dwelt.......and dwelt.....and dwelt....to a point where I actually pleaded with the guy to just fold and allow us to at least get some of the break. I ended up telling him I had the straight and that if he had 6/7 he could take my whole stack. He dwelt some more and in the end had clock called on him and after 8 minutes in total folded a 5 .......just WTF
Took 6 hours to get back to Glasgow due to snow etc so very very tired and will post some more tomorrow with a few pics of my own. To everyone I shared a beer, table, chips or laugh with, I"m grateful to have had the privilege. Many congratulations to George on his win and to Yangran and Laura for their medals. To everyone who cashed, very well done (especially my travelling buddy Chas in 11th) and very bad luck to Alex finishing 15th after playing very well over 12 hours, but also well done to him for making it 2 day 2"s in only 2 APATs
