After Elvis Costello, I"d say my next favourite band (and certainly the one I"ve followed the most) would be The Saw Doctors. They"re from the same town as my mate Maeve (Tuam in County Galway), which is how I first got in to them.

I first came across them in the early nineties and have probably been to see them a dozen times or so.

One of my favourites from their first album (If This Is Rock & Roll I Want My Old Job Back) is this; I Useta Lover.

Leicester completed a competent victory over Treviso getting the try bonus point in the process as expected. It finished 62-15.

Unfortunately, Perpignan also gained the try bonus versus Llanelli so we face a tough away day in Dublin playing Leinster.

No Munster so switching teams - will get a little confusing Leinster/Leicester, but cmon Leinster

I"ve just started reading one of the books I"ve purchased recently, The Poker Mindset. I think it was Stuart that recommended it. Thank you Sir.

I"ve only read a couple of chapters. So far it"s outlined the attributes that make up a "poker mindset"

1. Understand and accept the realities of poker

2. Play for the long term

3. Emphasise correct decisions over making money

4. Desensitise yourself to money

5. Leave your ego at the door

6. Remove all emotion from decisions

7. Dedicate yourself to a continuous cycle of analysis and improvement

Of these point 7, analysis & improvement, is the one that jumps out as the one I need to concentrate on.

Also, as I don"t consider myself a natural gambler and am somewhat risk averse (hence being so tight), point 4, desensitise yourself to money, is perhaps another area I could work on a little. As a tournament player, so long as you play within your bankroll, I don"t think it"s too much of an issue. I have a separate bank account from which all my poker is played because I think it"s important not to let poker impinge on your day-to-day bill-paying ability. So that"s a plus point.

Jimmy Eck has recommended PokerXfactor as a good coaching/training vid site so I might sign up to them for a month or so and see how it goes. Having had a look, I"m sure it"ll help me, I"m just worried I"m too lazy to keep up the study.

1. Understand and accept the realities of poker -- Yeah well kinda have to

2. Play for the long term -- ain"t giving it up anytime soon

3. Emphasise correct decisions over making money -- I laughed so hard

4. Desensitise yourself to money -- Given mate, just a given

5. Leave your ego at the door -- Fortunately don"t have one

6. Remove all emotion from decisions -- Easy when "happy"

7. Dedicate yourself to a continuous cycle of analysis and improvement - You"re having a Giraffe

The people it"s been my good fortune to meet playing poker

An occasional series.

Daniel "kinboshi" Phillips

I first became aware of the God-fearing boshmeister-general as a reader of the APAT Season 1 English Championship updates on blonde (before APAT had its own forum). I remember thinking, "he must be a fecking good player" and to be honest, I was always a little in awe of him as the winner of the first event ;D

It wasn"t until some months later that I actually met the fella to talk to, not sure where it was, perhaps Dublin Season 1.

And what a great bloke he is. Very intelligent and good company. A little taciturn sometimes and doesn"t post much. A very handy fella to have onside for any IT issues too.

He had a lovely £15K bink (I believe) in the DTD Deepstack last year and it couldn"t happen to a nicer bloke. Apart from me obv.

He"s a bit of a stranger to the forums these days (all things are relative mind) as he"s all loved-up. Good luck to him.

I believe "kinboshi" is Japanese for glory to God - he may correct me if I"m wrong.

I"ve taken the plunge and subscribed to PokerXFactor. I was expecting a one-off sign-up fee of $119 but it doesn"t seem to have been levied for some reason. Perhaps it"s because I have a long-standing (and long-forgotten) site registration.

It"s $24.95 p.m. which equates to £13.66 at current exchange rates, so even at my levels it"s reasonably affordable.

I"ll report back on how I get on.

Training videos are good and all that (I use Deucescracked myself) but nothing beats posting hands you"ve played along with your thought processes on forums like the Academy here and blonde...and even 2p2 if you dare brave it. I would mix in the videos with posting hands and reading up on hands at the level you"re playing at...no point reading hands by people like Moorman etc as it just won"t help you as much.

However, I wouldn"t recommend DC to you, they are more cash-focused.
