What do you think of this play then, worthy of a pro? With about 25 left he raises with AJ, gets re raised by the CL, and pushes for his tournament life. CL shows pocket tens, and Niall ( i think thats his name) binks an ace. A lot of chat on the rails about this play, would you push for your life with AJ?

seems reasonably standard, no?
Looking forward to making my first day 2

Firstly Mikey, you"re a braver man than I to take on second guessing any play this guy makes. He is truly a top top player.

After the tourney I was lucky to sit and have a couple of drinks with Niall ( "The Pro" ), JohnMW and Richard Hinds. We talked a lot of poker, as you do and tbf Niall is on a different level when it comes to understanding the game. My head still hurts after some of the analysis. :-[

What you miss about the AJ spot is the history between the two players and specifically "The Pros" image and resultant perceived range.

If "The Pro" is raising 40% (likely conservative) 44+,A2s+,K2s+,Q4s+,J7s+,T7s+,97s+,87s,A2o+,K7o+,Q8o+,J8o+,T9o then the CL"r can and should 3bet at least 20% 66+,A4s+,K8s+,Q9s+,J9s+,T9s,A9o+,KTo+,QTo+,JTo.

Versus that 3bet range AJ has 55% equity and 4b shoving will show a profit for sure. I"m quite sure there are huge psychological implications to the play also. ie. "You might be chipleader but I"m the boss at this table so you"d be well advised to stay out of my way!"

I"m not sure this could have been explained any better by anyone. Excellent post IMO.

An excellent analysis. There is of course an additional dimension to the specific hand in question.  As the player involved as we"ve established was A) a pro and B) pissed, it"s possible there may have been less depth to his thought process. Given the buy-in was probably significantly less than his usual stakes and the good natured atmosphere of the event I calculate a 71.8% probability he thought all that stuff you just said and a 28.2% likelihood he simply cried BANZAI - the suicide scream of the Japanese zero pilots and pushed his chips into the middle.

Quality thread  ;D I hope our Aussie Millions final-tablist ? makes it to our next team game in Star City lol, not sure if they will be happy with someone who just won 1/4 million Aussie $$$$$$ playing lol

Actually pretty sure they would not give a hoot , it"s all about the whole weekend experience after all.

Railing from afar I was amazed how Niall stormed through the last twenty, as it became clear that he had to win the lot for the team to have a decent chance of 2nd or 3rd.

Being a nice lad is a definite edge to be exploited. People are much happier to see a nice lad pocketing their money than a hardened nut. All future APAT events should be open to pros, but only the ones who are nice lads.

 :-\ lol

Firstly thanks again to everyone involved in the running/organising of the tourney. It was a fantastic weekend and the atmosphere was top notch with everyone being really friendly and always up for a pint!

I think the "drama" has been covered - we were told it was ok for me to play and i think that has been echoed in the thread. If i wasnt allowed to play i wouldnt have been there and tbh Im not travelling down from glasgow to play a £50 buyin event because of any "edge" i may or may not have, im travelling down to meet some of the UK poker community and to drink as much as possible! I think everyone I was at the table with will be able to confirm either a) I was extremely drunk (day 1) or b) I was barely conscious and almost missed the start (day 2)!

In regards to the AJ hand, I"ll give a quick runthrough lol

Basically id been raising almost every hand upto this point, I opened the cutoff with like 125k ish and the gentleman on my left reraised me. Id already decided he was good and he had enough chips to put pressure on me as i was opening really wide.  If im raisng T4s there but folding as high as AJ then a good player is basically free to reraise me with old kent road and the red 1 from uno as his holdings and make a profit.  So that being said, i wagered all of my discs and was actually really surpised to get called, and that he was as strong as TT. Its definitely a really unlucky spot for him that i had AJ as im shoving much much worse and i obviously won the flip as Im a huge luckbox.

Anyway, I had a fantastic weekend, some of the craic had me in stitches the day after when i remembered it lol, and I"ll defintiely be back next year if Im still allowed!

Thanks again

Niall

Niall is a nice guy i was just ranting yesterday and had 7.5 hours sleep since 8am friday and i was being a dick. as i stated in threads here and on the THMF i thought you was a nice enough fella and to be fair if it wasnt pointed out to me i wouldnt have known who you were.

if i bump into you in the futre the 1st cpl of pints (that you clearly enjoy) are on me and i hope this redeems me a little for being a twat.

also a big appology to anybody (all of you) who thought i may have been a cock.

I do hope it isnt held against me for any future APAT events if i ever attend.

Can vouch for Niall"s zombie state on Sunday.  Bolton seems to have a shortage of wheelchair taxis.  Anyone who"s got to play a day two but sticks round the casino to help push Iron back to his hotel at 8am on a Sunday morning is tops in my book.  Not sure of yer mate"s name as I"m still a bit blurry (shocker...lol), but big thanks to the pair of ya!

Oh yeah..and well done on winning the event ya fish!  lol   :D

I don"t think re-raising with Old Kent Road and the red 1 from Uno is +ev against an aggresive player. If i"m re-raising light i"m looking for at least Whitechapel Road and Mr Bun the Baker.

I know OP has apologised and everyone is friends again but if I was posting words such as "disgusted" and was feeling wound up, it would surely have been aimed at the buffet.

I can eat anything (seriously) but that "beef stew type whatever it was" beat me. I got it in my mouth but could not physically chew it, break it down or swallow it.

Have the RSPCA been informed??
