If we looked to merge them, we"d have to call the new club "Birmingham Poker Club"

If the Walsall captain and team were happy with that, then I"ll look into it further.

I do agree, that you are geographically very close, but when we set them up, it was done around casino locations.

I will see what the Walsall reply is to this thread.

Is it up to them?

If you allow most of the best players in APAT to merge into one team, this might well be the outcome:

merge forces and rule the division for evermore

Given that it"s about 15 minutes from Walsall to Birmingham anyone who lives near one clearly lives near the other therefore they"d still be playing for a local club. Isn"t it down to the players to choose which team they play for?

I hear what you are saying John, and it"s not their decision to make, I"m simply getting some opinions.

In this case, Walsall and Birmingham are so close together, and Birmingham only get a handful of players each week, it would sensible to review the possibility.

Very similar to when we merged Southampton and Portsmouth, or the very recent merger of North and South London.

We started off with 30 locations, but knew some wouldn"t get as many players as others, it"s just being practical.

It"s for APAT to decide the structure and then the players can choose their teams.

Indeed, so it"s perfectly valid for Walsall players to join Birmingham or vice versa. But if all the Walsall players join Brum then it"s effectively a merger as there"s no point in having a Walsall team with no players.

I would agree with that, there are only a couple of clubs where I would consider doing this, having been sat with a map of the UK and Ireland for a few minutes.  Birmingham and Walsall is one, and Newcastle and Sunderland is the other (Like that will ever happen  ;) )

Well if you"re combining Sunderland and Newcastle then you need to consider merging England and Scotland for the Team Championship.

Best of luck!   ;)

If a merger is going to be a cause for consternation, we (Bham players) could just choose to move to Walsall club for S5?  I presume we have until the start of the first round to declare allegiance to a club?

FWIW - I am equidistant to both Walsall and Birmingham

If the Birmingham players want to join The Champions of Walsall, I have no problems with that. The majority of both Walsall AND Birmingham already play for BCPC anyway. We at Walsall won"t be joining Birmingham as far as I know though as we have no need to.
Hopefully, the players who agree with Ant"s sentiments will decide to come over to us anyway. If it has to be an amalgamation (sorry Matt...there"s that word again !) then why not call us Black Country ?

Watch out the poachers are about, Techno will no doubt be around with his cheque book in a mo

I think the merger / closing of Brum is the correct way to go, and will vote with my feet with the majority of my mates in the Birmingham Club

If the two teams merge then personally a new name should be agreed.A Walsall club was only chosen because of the fact there happens to be a G casino there.I"m sure the original plan of the league"s formation was to roll it out live at some stage hence the reason to choose your "local" club.A quick glance Bri at our pokerstars home game reveals that only one person actually lives in Walsall. If there is no plan in the future to ever roll the league out live i"m still not quite sure why we have geographical constraints.

FWIW, "Black country" fine by me.
