In many ways the wild west had the advantage over us in this respect as if someone asked to see your cards at a showdown back in those days, you were legally entitled to shoot them.
Unfortunately there are many many people involved in poker in the present day who simply cannot wait to get up in the morning to make life unnecessarily unpleasant for as many people as possible.
