Acting Out Of Turn
« on: July 10, 2011, 08:23:09 AM »
Lovely discussion at the latest TDA summit suggesting that ANY action that happens out of turn incurs an automatic penalty of sitting out 3 hands. (1 hand not being enough and a whole round being too much)

This included folding out of turn....which I know was a real issue in Newcastle.

Consensus seemed to be that it was a real eye-opener for offenders and really cut down on this type of behaviour.

What think you?

they was doing this in the ukipt in manchester this year but only if someone was getting up and leaving the table and was also dependant on if the dealer told the floor

I think one warning before jumping on people"s throats is fine. Who hasn"t accidentally acted out of turn because they can"t see some cards?

Other than that, 3 hands sounds fair - with acting out of turn including getting up from the table before it"s your turn to act. I don"t find it too hard to pay attention at the table so I"m happy for it to be punished tbh.

Don"t have a problem with that, however at the aquarium the dealer would be playing solitaire  ;D

Played a £30 tourney in Walsall the other night and was gobsmacked when the Polish dealer told a guy who mucked out of turn that he would receive a 2-hand penalty.
This is apparantly standard now in G-Casino"s for every game and you also get it if you use the toilet.

I just feel that unscrupulous players could use this to there advantage big-time by sitting with elbows on the table and hands clasped infront of their cards to unsight players in certain seats.
Don"t like this "Across The Board" rule one-bit.

Although I like the idea I do think that some latitude could be given to first time offenders but in general, it costs nothing to ask, "is it on me?" and proceed from there.

Clearly the people who just get up and leave before it"s their turn to act are the ones who it is aimed at and I think it"s a wonderful addition.

Since the majority of people folding out of turn are going to the loo or for a smoke, a 3 hand penalty seems pretty inconsequential.

Think they had this rule in deepstack champs in Luton and from reports it opened up all sorts of angles for people trying to induce folds out of turn so that players were penalised. Think it cause bad feeling. I hate acting out of turn etc but any rule needs to be applied with common sense, warnings etc
Looking forward to making my first day 2

In the IPO last year a player got up and left the table before his turn to act, floor was called and the player was warned, he would incur a one orbit sit out penalty if this happened again, all other players at the table were deemed to also be warned since they had seen what happened and had the rule explained to them.

One of the worst things that has happened to me was as follows, I"m in BB with about 15BB left, Mid position makes it 4bb to go, He is very laggy and I have goo but it"s folded round to me and I start to count out a raise but just smooth call with lots of acting etc. I am putting all my chips in whatever comes down, the dealer puts 2 cards down and before the last card is down villain announces all in  :o  :"(  >:(

What should TD have done? Villain never showed his cards and was awarded the pot because I was asked if I wanted to call and I said of course I f%&*ing don"t, he"s stolen my action....... oh well unlucky was the response...... I handled it fairly well and went out of said tourney 3 hands later.

Just like peoples opinion on whether this guy should have been allowed to make this play

Simple answer is.. No he"s not allowed to make this play.

It is you turn to act.. if you check, then his all-in stands.. if you bet/move all-in then he has all his options.

The penalty is applied when they come back...Obv.

My point is - since they are obviously not concerned about missing several hands while away from the table, then missing another 3 doesn"t seem like much of a penalty... obv.

I have just read the amended rules for G Casinos that came out this week (they seem to me to be ambiguous and open to individual judgement by each dealer/TD), and as I understand it the actions described above incur a penalty.

The four actions of punisment/ penalty (for any offence) are :
a) miss two hands
b) miss a full orbit
c) miss two orbits
d) player suspended and asked to leave the tournament

I would imagine that ruling d) would be applied to a serious offence such as cheating, and not be applied in this ungentlemanly conduct. Which in your case unfortunately would mean villain doesn"t lose the hand.
