Decline in poker fun.

Hey all.  I am fairly new to the APAT scene.  I"ve never played a live event due to restricting circumstances which I hope to redress next season.

I have played the odd league game in the past, got a blog up and running, and now captain the Carlisle Poker Club. From following threads and blogs re: live APAT games I have always had the impression that the APAT stands for a lot of fun poker events and expeditions.

My question is: has the fun transferred to the online game?  I personally joined APAT for a few reasons: 1) To play the Online National League, build a team, get myself more involved with the poker community in general (for my own reasons), get access to your live scene, and for some fun.

I see very little in the way of banter either on the forums or at the tables.  Has it all gone a bit too serious?  Are people worried about being misconstrued when entering into banter (forums are treacherous places I know), or is it just that not everyone is as much of a motor-mouth as me and can"t concentrate on their games whilst spewing a load of bull in the chat box?

In my personal opinion its hard to have banter with people you don know online.... a prime example i was playing a cash table the other night n had a guy saying how he doesnt fish ect. ect. a few hands later he fished big time and hit, now i jokingly said "i like how you never fish and showed it with that superb premium move lol" and the abuse i got was unreal. I then said dry your eyes mate i was only trying to have a bit of banter. He then apologised and we had a laugh after that.

I think People just initially take things out of context when just reading it online. And automatically think its all meant in a negative context. It doesnt stop me saying stuff but i aint explaining myself every time so it leads to a lot of hostility sometimes against me (while i sit laughing away).

I dont know so much about APAT forum as im new to it but online poker tables are rife with poor sportsmanship and lack of banter.

Once you guys get to play a few live tournies, you will see that APAT is quite a unique set up in that you will quickly meet and make friends with people who will remain friends for life.
 There are a few idiots on here....but that"s enough about Scouse and Dan Owston.......most players are good fun and can take the comments as well as giving them out.

Agreed.  I think I sometimes present the impression I am a bit harsh, but I just have a dry sense of humour and have no malice towards anyone (Ok - I might wind up the odd person in an MTT or whatever (and I"m still only joking) but I wouldn"t do that in a community game like the APAT).  People can be very sensitive I find.

I would have thought that with the APAT though, more people do know each other, although I guess a lot of tables will have players who don"t.  Maybe Div 2 has more players who do not know each other through the live side.

Paulie - I hope Scouse is a Red "cos if I do get on his table the banter will flow freely.

I must say that so far the people have been sound and i look forward to meeting everyone making the glasgow tourny at the end of the month.

there are certainly a few internet warriors who play APAT events online, but these are far outnumbered by decent folk who love a bit of banter. I find the online games are just as fun as they always were.

I have not encountered anyone who has not been sound as yet.  Note to self - maybe if there are no tossers at the table then it is me?  I"ll crack on tonight and see what"s doing.

Indeed. Met some fantastic people through playing APATs and made some very good friends. Wouldn"t be the same without them. Especially you Leigh. xxx      

I play various tourneys but when i get knocked out at DTD or some random casino i"m off home. At an APAT it"s just the beginning of a long and interesting evening!

Vblue- I do understand what you mean. The first couple of APAT events I went to were a little daunting and maybe we need to do somthing about that in future. It took me about 3 tournaments to really understand what its about. If your there to win, and there are people like that, then I dont think you (not you in particular but just people in general) are getting what APAT is about. In my humble opinion APAT is a group of people who like to get together every now and then and have some fun and yes we play poker. But, I can play poker anywhere and I dont have to travel or get a hotel room ect ect. Theres a reason I travel to these events. Because thats exactly what it is " An Event" , I play APAT for the people I have met along the way. There are so many different people that attend these events and yet we all have one thing in common, the love of poker and the love of a good time with friends. Thats it, thats all its about for me really. So push past the first few tournaments where you dont really know many people and dont really get whats going on, hey, weve all been there. It gets better, alot better.

Thanks for the replies.  I am sure if I attended a live event, a real possibility in 2012, I would feel the APAT love.

There was more craic last night I thought.  I guess you have to "git amongst it" as they say up our way.
