Title: Poker Site
Post by: CrizzyConnor on January 07, 2008, 06:51:41 AM
Was just wondering if anybody here plays at PKR? I"ve tried numerous times and I can"t seem to be able to get onto any of the iPoker sites to even register - it just keeps saying "unable to connect to network". Same goes with Full Tilt so I was going to give PKR a go...

I"ve only ever played at Pokerstars but heard that PKR has great satellites into live tourneys and i"d love to try a lot more of these. I really wanted to get onto Blue Square for the GUKPT and APAT events but it"s simply not happening and i"ve tried a million times.

So anyway just wondering if any of you play at PKR and if so what"s it like?

Would you recommend playing there or do you have any other suggestions? Bearing in mind I"d like to try for online qualification into live tournaments and also that I can"t get onto the iPoker network at all.

Thanks in advance for any reply.

I have an account with PKR but so far have only spent a hour or so on the play-money games. One of the guys at the last Regional in Edinburgh told a few of us that he makes a killing on there as it apparently attracts more of the low-stakes players who are more attracted by "The Simms"-ness of it all and would rather abuse you than play poker  :)

The software itself I found to be easy to use in a more entertaining and TV-poker kinda way. Will I make my first deposit any time soon though? Probably not. Then again, iPoker works well for me.

Nah it was NTL which has changed to Virgin Media now?

Oh yeah and why was the thread name changed to "poker site" lol, something to do with the Blue Square advertising? Or is it the whole "other brands are available" thing? :D

Probably. The name change hasn"t filtered down through the thread though ...

PKR is a very power-hungry software and I can only recommend using it if you have a decent (that means good) PC with more than 1GB RAM. I tried to run it a few months ago with 768MB and it wouldn"t run!

I agree, I don"t even attempt using it on my small laptop. I"ve played it a few times on my desktop, but the flashiness soon gets tiresome, and I switched it back to the "standard" top down view pretty quickly... But I have read various things saying it is pretty soft so I may have to have another look... I remember having issues with it being very slow and with disconnects, and that was running with 2GB and a pretty fast connection, but things may have improved in recent months.

There is some kind of "reduced mode" that installs with it that I think cuts down the minimum system requirements, which may be of use on less powerful systems, haven"t tried it so can"t comment on whether it works or not...

It"s the pure coincidence of your having a namesake that works for that business.  ;)

Maybe i"ll get a good sign up bonus if this is true?

OK Ok OK, I play regularly on PKR.  I beta tested it (kept crashing my computer) but then hardly played for a year.

However I have in the last 2 months I have played about 5 times a week.

Full of gamers have had quite a bit of sucess especially at the cash tables

Tourneys are really loose and quick

If you can put up with all the stupid gameplay and the slow amount of hands an hour it is quite profitable!!
