Title: QQ in a satellite
Post by: nosey-p on January 30, 2012, 10:46:28 AM
$20 + $2 MTT into a $700 MTT

7400 (ish) runners

Down to 260, 212 seats

I'm in 180th (ish)

Blinds are 1K / 2K with ante

Under the gun shoves for $10k, EP minimum raise to 20k with about 15k behind, folds to me on the button with QQ (32k in chips)

Fold, Call or Raise?

Less than 16 BB left...EP isn"t folding but I think you have to jam and take your chances....I would.

Fold.

You"re inside the pay spots by some margin - why take the risk against the EP guy who has min-raised for more than half his stack.... that"s a move that just stinks of strength.

In a normal MTT, this is a jam 100% of the time. In this spot, in a Satellite, for me it"s a fold 100% of the time.

Insta-Fold.

You are in a comfortable position to bag a seat, remember you don"t need to win the thing, just finish 212th.

Larger stacks will manipulate the fact, but swallow your pride, and fold all the way to a seat.

Fold, for all the reasons given already. Standard in a satellite. No need to get involved here. You have plenty of chips to fold your way to a seat.

If you have seen my blog you will know I didn't get a seat

I will wait, to give other people the chance to post before I tell you what I did but it's this hand that I think I went wrong.

I think it"s probably a fold, even though I suspect it is a turbo sat to tcoop.

Yeah. I sigh and fold. If it is a TCOOP sat then the shorter stacks will be under pressure even quicker so I"ll bide my time and only take a chance if I really have to.

This, fold every time here for me in a Sate.

yr 180ish, 212 seats available.  32 seats to drop down before danger, with approx 48 left to get knocked out .... not losing any chips here at this stage if flip doesn"t go yr way.  With a sate even 1 chip left is enough to get a seat, I"ve seen ppl scrape through with less than a BB many a time ... let the others knock each other out here.

I did fold for all the reasons already said.

UTG is pushing with any 2 cards. It was the EP player that got me, a minimum raise when he did not have to play just smelt of AA, KK. As it turned out he had 99 but ignore the cards with the info in front of me I think a fold was the right choice.

The trouble was that all the short stacks was doubling up until we was down to about 230 I was in 205 when I got AK in the BB. Short stack shoved on me, I could have fold but felt that I need to win a pot to get through. They had a PP which held. Put me down to 11/2 BB then pushed with K 10 got called with 6 5 you know the rest.

Out of curiosity ... had you done any limp/call/folding between the QQ hand and this stage? Or had it got to this stage through folding every single hand after the QQ hand?

Surprised it dropped down this quickly if every hand after QQ had been folded (chips only going through Blinds and antes).

Also, I hear the 11/2 BB thing and feeling like you needed to shove to win a pot to stay alive ... but 1 chip has exactly the same value as 240,000 chips when a sate ends, so the 10x BB shove thing really doesn"t carry the same weight here (imo only of course).  I don"t know, for me I can still fold here with 11/2BB 230 left, currently sitting at 205, ppl that are all shoving at this stage.

I"d have the smallest stacks tables open and be guaging right til the last chip, and being the annoying git thats slowing the action right down as well if need be ;-)

Just re-read ... did you have 1 1/2 bb or 11 and a half left?

At the same time I was playing 2 other games, 1 was for a seat to the GPS, we was on the FT and was in with a good shout of getting a seat. In the other game we was on the money bubble, so my concentration was not fully on this game. After the QQ hand I thought I could fold my way to a seat so my eye was not on this game but on the other 2. Before you know it I was down to about 6 BB when the AK hand came (in the BB). The mistake is that all the other players was pushing and not getting looked up, and I called instead of getting in the pot first. After that I had 1 1/2 BB

Another factor for me in these decisions is the standard of sat play.  I gather this was PStars so pretty decent - not too many people making howling errors or (my fave) not even paying attention to where the bubble is.

Had a very amusing experience on what is now a former sponsor"s site.  We"re on bubble with one plyr having been sat out for about half the tourney - blinded away down to 1-2bbs - so with the antes he"s blinded out this revolution.  Two players then proceed to get into a tussle which results in one busting out by shoving a str8drw and not hitting.

I"m flabbergasted and write soemthing like - "you gotta be kidding" in box.

Better still - We"re all in the tourney so I"m shoving every hand - but everyone else at the table is playing dead serious, not one of them realises we"re all thru.  To the point that when I do bust after 4-5 shoves someone writes "thank god we got rid of him" or words to that effect!

Needless to say in those circumstances you can damn near fold from the off into a seat!

Fold, order a drink and wait for the bubble.;)

Wow, what version of Pokerstars do you have? Or are you playing real high buyin satellites?

The standard on Stars is usually dreadful. Especially in satellites.

I remember qualifying for a UKIPT when sat in last place and the two chip leaders decided to play a 120BB pot AIPF with AJ v AQ. I had 6 bigs and sneaked over the line thanks to these 2 idiots

Nice.   :)

Seen many similar things in Stars sats. Some people REALLY don"t get the correct strategy when it gets close to the seats. Often those with big stacks who could quite easily sit out and guarantee a seat.

It"s hilarious when ego"s get in the way of common sense.

My 13yr old lad was playing a GSOP sat the other night, and with 13 left, there were 12 seats on offer, and he was 11th with a stack of 4x.... and he open folded AA pre without me giving him any guidance.... when I asked him why, he said he didn"t need to play the hand because the two shorter stacks both had less than 2xBB left, and would be in the BB before him.   He"s only played a few tourneys... but if he can get it, you have to question the understanding of some others!

Lol.  Duly noted!

I haven"t really played on PStars for a while.  When I did a bit there was a bit of a trend for a while for peeps grinding them like sngs for the PStar$s...and they had a decent grip of tactics....but as I say duly noted!

in sats for seats you should not be shoving till your down to 3 bb its just about staying in and getting the seat not winning the dam thing get the same for 1st as you do for 212 so its a easy fold
