Watched In Time last night - 6.5/10.

Cool concept where time = money, felt like it could have been more, meandered a bit in the middle but still enjoyable.

JT the actor >>>>>>>>>>> JT the singer/dancer and Amanda Seyfried egg is incred.

Chronicle was superb. Thought all the good bits would have been in the trailers, but they definitely weren"t.
Best film I"ve seen in a long long time. 4.5 stars out of 5 from me x

I thought Chronicle was excellent also and I"m loving this thread.  Just need some time to go through Paulie"s Picks at the top first.  As I"ve said before though, very much looking forward to Dredd and the Hunger Games.

Oh yes, I like the look of that very much.  Absolutely loved the first three Alien films.

Just been listening to a Chris Moneymaker interview which has been a pretty interesting, been discussing the new poker movie amongst others (including the new iseries) ... not sure if it"ll make the big cinema chains here though x

I bought the book yesterday - it"s a shame that the commercial reality of getting a lower certificate has diluted the film - a truer adaptation of the book would get an "18" and would be a better all round film than BR.

I saw the Hunger Games over the weekend and thought it ran pretty true to the book.  I liked the use of extreme close ups early on to mimic the claustraphobia of living in district 12.  All in all, great story and enjoyable film.  I rated it 8 / 10 on iMDB.

Ted....Looks awesome.

So far I"ve actually ventured out of the Fatcave to see Battleship and The Avengers and loved them both.

Battleship:

Yes, there are obvious comparisons to be made to Transformers but at least I could follow what was going on on the screen without my vision blurring like it does with Michael Bay.

The story was, frankly, ridiculous...the plot had holes you could drive a...ahem, battleship through...and the science was laughably incorrect (visible radio signals anyone!?)

But...good clean fun with a great look, silly US-centric patriotic bits that get you anyway and excellent visuals.

The Avengers:

OMFG....Ker....CHING!

Everything it was meant to be. I can"t do it justice here. If you"re in anyway a Marvel comic book fan...see it.

Chronicle:

Not originally on my list but I"ve managed to see it. I liked it on a "see it once" basis and for a relatively small budget they packed a lot in. When the teenager who gets abused at high school (and at home) gains the powers, what could go wrong?

Dark and sometimes uncomfortable to watch...it puts an interesting spin on the disaffected teen dynamic.

...

Waiting on Prometheus next I think.

The Avengers - Heard really good things about it Paulie, excellent reviews but just can"t bring myself to want to go and see it, have a particular dislike with comic book to big screen adaptations... initial reviews I read I thought were just the usual fan boys, but keeps on getting rave reviews, will save till DVD and then probably regret not getting my **** to the theatre to see it  :P

Glad you liked Chronicle... stand out film of the year for me so far.

Cabin in the Woods - Last film I saw, was really excited by the synopsis and it was really well done, no spoilers here but its nothing like what you expect it to be, stereotypical horror characters / theme / story line with a massive "twist", and there was some real laugh out loud moments ("I"m on speaker phone arn"t I" still makes me giggle).. however it could have been done so much better. Give it an 8/10 but with such a creative and original idea could of been higher. Still recommend though.

Next film for me... pass... will be fancying Prometheus though.

Ok I know it"s slightly of the OP thread title as it isn"t a new or up and coming movie, but since it"s about films etc I just wanted to throw this out there..

I recently purchased Netflix, mainly for the kids to watch.. So was chatting to a mate the other day who told me to watch a film on there called " Bais Moi ".. So I typed it in the search engine on the site and watched..

Ummm what can I say?? How is it legal that the censors can allow this film to be shown on mainstream site open to all ages.. I realise you can place a parental control but a lot of parents don"t bother.. Needless to say I did.. I have a broad open mind, but found it rather un comftable viewing.. Thelma and Louise meets porn is the best it can be described as.. The rape scene early on was pretty shocking!

Just a warning if any other parents who have Netflix but no parental control might want to enable the feature.

I think the title of the film gives it away Carl... translates to errrrm "Feck" Me  :-\ x

The Avengers is genuinely brilliant. Im a big cominc book geek, and thoroughly enjoyed this film. To be fair all the comic-film conversions i have seen have generally been very good. It was everything i expected it to be and a bit more, with some cracking action, good performances by the actors and some very funny moments along the way.

I managed to watch Iron Sky the other day and it"s delightfully, over the top, campy and silly as well as having some great special effects. Straight to DVD though.

If you can get it (you know where) it"s worth a couple of hours of your life.

GI Joe: Retaliation seems to have been put back to March 2013 allegedly because they want to do the 3D right but more likely they"re having to do some major re-writes / re-shoots to bring the hero from the last one back and make him a major part of the film rather than killing him off early

In the meantime...

Added.

I"m planning on Prometheus over the long weekend.

Without putting any spoilers out there I would say if you haven"t heard anything about the film then I imagine it would be very good, but having heard a little about it, it all seemed so predictable.

One more for the list.

Jack Reacher

This trailer just seems wrong.

I have a real problem with the miniscule Tom Cruise playing someone who is 6" 5" in the novels when he"s nearly a foot shorter than that.

Reacher in Lee Child"s books is a bada** mofo who doesn"t own a car or, in fact, much of anything preferring not to be tied down with actual possessions that he can"t leave at a moment"s notice.

Cruise can do "intense" but he"s not a physical presence.

I"ll go though.

I"ve read all the Reacher books and have an image in my mind of what he should look like on the big screen - and Tom Cruise definitely isn"t it. Worst casting ever !

Cruise is totally wrong for that role, based on the books.  But I guess for film goers who aren"t familiar with the books, he will probably do a very good job and of course he is big box office.

I love the book series and always pictured Lawrence Dallaglio as Reacher.

I thought Prometheus was both really good (superb world creation/visuals by Ridley Scott again) and really disappointing (almost no character development at all, and not nearly enough scary/jumpy moments).  It could have been so much better, but it was a tough ask to live up to Alien.

Has anyone watched the World War Z trailer in this thread? It"s fake.  You can see lots of movies spliced together in the clip to make the visuals.  Nice work though.

Oh, and if I can, here"s one I"m looking forward to.
