Thanks for all the comments made, and for all those that have applied so far.... and if you haven"t applied, and are wondering whether to do so, well you should! As per my OP, I will consider all applications based on their own merits, and have no preconceptions of what the team will be.
Selections will be loosely based on the following criteria: General contribution to APAT; APAT performances; non APAT performances; team spirit.
Regarding the place reserved for the highest placed English person in the Online league, I will be assuming the end of the current Online league season as the cutoff for that, ie the positions after the final game on 17th June, hence the timing of our applications window and announcement.
Current league table is linked below, and assuming those in Scotland and Wales teams are not English people in disguise, and that players in other regional teams are English, then Paul Foy (West Midlands) currently leads the way from John Hubbard (East Midlands) by a single point, and Lee Mardon (South East) by two points. With several rounds still to go, and with 25 points for a win, everyone is in with a real shout.... it really is all to play for.
Full league is HERE (http://www.apat.com/forum/index.php?topic=10696.0)

Steve,
Delighted to see your appointment as captain of the England Team. A few tough decisions to make for your team selection. Don"t envy your task but I"m sure you will come up with a great team. Can"t wait for the event. See you in Cardiff.

Cheers Frank, and the very same straight back at you. Good luck to you and Ireland.

Steve I like the way you have shown true English passion and clearly wish all the English team all the best. I will be in Nottingham on the Friday, but also plan to play the Goliath so cant commit and apply for the team.
However for the team chosen even if the poker doesnt go well remember that you were born an Englishman and consequently have won first prize in the lottery of life
-
Congrats on being appointed as England Captain Steve well deserved.
Sadly I will not be able to commit to any of the ECOAP events this year as I will be playing elsewhere that week, but I will be rooting for you guys.

glk steve

Going into the last round of the league on Sunday, it"s clear that Wales and Scotland are fairing significantly better than England. Hopefully that"s not an indication of things to come in August!!
Assuming that those registered for Wales and Scotland league teams will not be eligible for a place in the England ECOAP team, and also assuming that those from other regions are eligible (English), then the player currently in pole position is Dan Patterson (North East), with Paul Foy (West Mids) 1 point behind, John Hubbard 2 points behind, and Lee Mardon (South East) 3 points behind.
There are a whole stack of players within 25 points of Dan though, so anyone with 20 points or more has it all to play for this Sunday!
The team will be announced next Monday (18th June) once the results from Sunday night are published. Good luck to all English players who are playing for a place in the England team.
Also, good luck to Wales and Scotland on Sunday as they battle it out for league victory.

IIRC players were given the choice of playing for their country/region of birth or where they lived. So in theory there could be English players playing for Scotland and Wales.

yep - hence only an assumption at this stage with no other data to go on, and wanted to get some names in the frame to build a bit of interest....
We might just find a surprise waiting on Monday morning... :)

glk Steve - lookn forward to Nottingham

Update on team announcement. I still hope to announce the team today, but am waiting on confirmation of who is the highest placed English player in the online league. Of course, just because people are playing for non England based regional teams, doesn"t necessarily mean that they are not English, and I would hate to announce a team, only to then have to change it later.
So - as soon as I have that confirmation, the full team will be announced.... watch this space.
-
Not wanting to be controversial Steve, but a Non England based regional team, do you mean Scotland, Ireland or Wales? If that is the case I struggle to see how they can then play for England. They plainly chose Country over Region, and as such must consider themselves to be Irish, Scottish or Welsh. To then turn out for England is plainly wrong! Or have I misundestood your post?

Mike - the criteria for the league was to play for the region in which you live, or the region in which you were born. Who"s the say that those in the Welsh/Scottish teams aren"t English people playing for the region in which they currently live.... I just need to verify before I announce a team that may be incorrect.
-
Yeah okay Steve, I follow that now, cheers.
-
Are you trying to get a place in the Polish team again Mike?
-
Only if the Jocks wont have me! :D
