This will be circulated across the industry during the next 24 hours but it is being first released here.
London, July 11th, 2012 The Amateur Poker Association & Tour (APAT) today announced that it has successfully acquired the player database, online poker software and customer support contracts of Poker.co.uk, an online poker room on the International Poker Network.
Des Duffy, Managing Director of APAT stated: "We"re excited that APAT will add an online poker room to our product range and look forward to delivering a high quality online poker experience for our customers, as we have in the casino environment since 2006."
The Poker.co.uk online poker room will be rebranded APAT later in the year, but the software is available for immediate download and play via APAT's website at www.apat.com.
The new online poker room will host satellites and direct entry to APAT's Live and Online Championship tournaments, the National Online League and the inaugural National Online Cup. In addition, a complete schedule of tournaments and cash games will run around the clock.
Matt Dale, Founder of Poker.co.uk added: "With a membership of over 50,000 players and a reputation for being very community focussed, APAT is well positioned to bring something new to the online poker market and I"m delighted to play a part".
APAT announced that Dale will join the business in the position of Online Poker Director, while ex Head of Online, Leigh Wiltshire, will become Marketing Director at the London based organisation.
About the Amateur Poker Association & Tour (APAT)
APAT launched the United Kingdom's first national poker tour in 2006. With a clear focus on developing playing talent, APAT has become the largest organisation of its kind in Europe, hosting National Amateur Championship poker tournaments throughout the United Kingdom, Ireland, Austria, Estonia, Spain and North America at the world famous Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. Finalists at APAT National Amateur Championship and Online Championship events have gone on to win millions in prize money in addition to World Series of Poker, World Poker Tour and European Poker Tour titles.

I'm genuinely happy to make the above announcement and I believe it will be a good thing for APAT members and Poker.co.uk players.
I'd like to think that our members will agree that APAT have a good history of listening and delivering the games and structures that you want to play, whether it's in live or online poker.
Going forward we will be able to control our own tournament schedule and put on private cash games for you. We can look at structures, levels, clocks, chip stacks, basically all of the components that make up an online poker room.
On top of that we will bring something new to the International Poker Network and with your support, we can grow liquidity on the network and continue to develop the APAT tour and increase the added value available to you.
There are downsides and Tikay and Tighty have both chosen to sell their shareholding in APAT. Tikay for commercial reasons, due to a clash with his role at Sky. Similarly Tighty would almost certainly have preferred not to sell, but for personal reasons has chosen to. He'll definitely be updating with APAT at DTD next month and I hope he'll guest for us at APAT events that don't clash with his other commitments at DTD and blonde. I owe Tighty and Tikay a huge debt of gratitude for what they brought to APAT over the past few years. Without them we simply would not have existed and I have an enormous amount of respect for them both. We shared some amazing times together and I know they are both as supportive of APAT today as they were when we launched in August 2006.
Matt Dale joins the team and will largely focus on the online poker side of things. Matt's got lots of experience in running an online room; as indeed have I, and he will be all ears over the coming weeks to ensure we can give you guys what you want.
I'm really excited to see Leigh back in an official role. He's one of the most committed APAT-ers I've ever met and he will look after the marketing of APAT, Poker Circuit and one or two other projects that we are developing in the background.
While this development will change the commercial focus of APAT, please remember that the people managing the business are all long term APAT-ers, committed to delivering the same high quality experience that we've given you over the years. Our mindset will never change.
I'm sure you've got questions, please fire ahead and thanks in advance for your support. We"ll need it.

Reserved for updates.

Great news, well done Des !
-
KaBoom...That is all ;D ;D
-
Wow just wow :) Looking forward to it all!
-
Really pleased for you and Matt....oh, and Leigh.
Sad about Tighty and Tikay.
A huge and necessary step for APAT and, I feel, a big win for Poker.co.uk....they"ve come a long way from the tiny office in Brizzle I visited a few years ago with the LPM.
-
Well that came out of the blue, congrats and good luck with this venture.
-
Nice one guys, congrats!
-
Exciting times, congratulations guys !
-
Amazing news Des, congratulations on what is a fantastic achievement
-
wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii awesome news ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
So glad to see Leigh back involved with APAT and congrats to Matt in his new role (I have you on face book if I need to send complaining PMs haha)
Sorry to see Tikay and Tighty leave though :( Tighty IS apat updates ... hope there are no clashes with DTD/APAT events
Sooooooo .... anyone up for a few SNGs later :P
-
Awesome news.. Especially being able to have the buy ins for all brick and mortar events kept to one site, this opens up some great sattelite opportunities I reckon.. Well done Des, welcome aboard Matt and a very warm welcome back to Leigh.. Great to hear Richard will keep involved as much as he can with his legendary updates.
-
sweet..
-
Very best of luck with this new version of Apat, Des, Matt & Leigh, and all the best for the future Tighty & Tikay, you have certainly given poker pleasure to myself and other players all over the world, so thanks very much for all you have done.
-
Great news & good luck all in this new venture.
-
Great news, at least APAT can keep all their eggs in one basket..................
Will look forward to seeing it come alive
-
OK.
A few questions:
Will there be APAT branded card backs online?
Will there be Tighty SNG available at all levels of buy-in?
Will someone tell B&SW Meetup they are now a wholly owned subsidiary of APAT and thus no longer able to enter the Forum Team Event?
Can we have little APAT medal icons to indicate our status online (like the PS stars)?
Matt, is the APAT logo now going to feature a strapline including the word "Donk"? ;)
Give me a minute or two to come up with some others.....
-
Just want to say how pleased I am to be back in an official role with APAT, and it comes at a really exciting time for all members, old and new.
A big welcome to Matt Dale, who brings with him a wealth of poker industry experience to ensure that we are able to offer all members the same level of APAT experience with the new card room as we have with all previous APAT events.
Should be an interesting next few months as everything comes together, but you can get the software downloaded right now through the banner either at the top of this thread or on the homepage, and we"ll be confirming details of satellites and direct buyins for future events in the coming days.
-
Excellent news (apart from losing Tighty) poker.co.uk hell of a good domain name.
Wish you all well with this.
-
More Questions..........
What will happen with the "added value seats"for the winners of live events. Will APAT be covering these with the revenue from the poker site (obviously PS and Genting wont sponsor if theres no comitment to their own sites) and will they still be to the likes of UKIPT/GPS?
And Des, will there be a Aspers APAT Live Poker/Casino club in Swansea coming SOON? ;)
-
Great news guys
1 little question , can the software run on an iPad? I"m guessing not ..........
-
ah this explains some mysteries!
excellent news for APAT I think - Des, Leigh and Matt will make a fantastic team and I can only see things for APAT getting bigger and better from here in on. Hope Tighty stays involved too, albeit not as a shareholder, as he has been the face of APAT pretty much since inception.
Best of luck guys - onwards and upwards!
-
Excellent news (apart from losing Tighty) poker.co.uk hell of a good domain name.
Wish you all well with this.
APAT didn"t acquire the domain name; which had a value of several hundred thousand pounds alone. We will be launching our own APAT branded poker room in November. In addition we will be closing the poker.co.uk website on July 14th.
-
Awesome news. Congrats to all involved!!! 8)

There will be an element of both initially. For example we"ve announced an agreement with Genting for the UK events in November and we"ll be fully supportive of their product for those events, where they hold exclusive rights for satellites, direct buy ins etc.
We will also absolutely be supporting tours like UKIPT and GPS with our seat awards. We know our members like to play them and as long as they remain aspirational, we"ll give you guys what you want.
-
great news and may even get me back on the tables after the crash.... sad to hear about TiKay but understandable due to his other comitments. good luck with the project and hope to see some of you on the virtual felt in the future.
-
Can I ask will I be able to run the poker room on my MAC without running Virtualbox. I
-
Great news guys
1 little question , can the software run on an iPad? I"m guessing not ..........
There isn"t an iPad version at present. However, there are plans to launch iPad/iPhone/Android versions soooon
-
Great news guys
1 little question , can the software run on an iPad? I"m guessing not ..........
Not initially. Mobile is on the development roadmap and we"ll be getting into the finer detail of that in the coming weeks and months.
However I can state this is a much improved product with some good functionality and a technical partner in Gtech who have plans to develop it a lot further.
That said, we didn"t have the budget to acquire PokerStars and we hope you guys will bear that in mind! ;)
-
Interesting stuff guys, congrats and good luck with it all.
No Tighty though - who"s gonna flirt with my mum on the live updates now?!
-
Can I ask will I be able to run the poker room on my MAC without running Virtualbox. I
We would be hoping for a Mac version to be available around the time of the rebrand later in the year. For the time being, it would be a case of Virtualbox or a similar product.
-
Congratulations to all involved! More the GNF side myself, but this seems like a great deal for both APAT and Matt :)
-
Can I ask will I be able to run the poker room on my MAC without running Virtualbox. I
A Mac version is on the roadmap also I believe. Once we get a better handle on what"s coming, we"ll start a developments thread on the forum to keep everyone aware.
-
Interesting stuff guys, congrats and good luck with it all.
No Tighty though - who"s gonna flirt with my mum on the live updates now?!
That role is currently being contested at board level. We have a serious skill base in the field of online flirting, but are considering retaining Tighty in a consultant capacity to ensure the live update flirting remains at the levels expected by relations of our members. ;D
-
It seems a standard thing these days that online poker sites have "sponsored pros" and I fully understand that APAT is for amateurs so..................... (can you see where this is heading?)
I would like to be the first to offer my services to APAT as their "sponsored amateur" ;D
-
As a Poker.co.uk regular, I am delighted with this new development.
It is great news for all parties. I am particularly pleased for Matt. He has always delivered great value for PCUK players. I will 100% be supporting this new poker room and will urge others to do the same..

Now if everyone can do as Rob says, then the future will be bright.
I always said Rob was a genius ;D

Could I ask if the banking is run through Webdollar or is it standalone?
Also is there any rakeback available?
Many thanks and good luck

Downloaded software and regged for new account, GFC_Fan is now online....................
Will you start a page with members and their new aliases?
Many thanks
Good Luck to Tighty and Tikay (Obv not too much for Tighty when he plays the song pop game against me)
Ian

Just a slight concern over the possible shift of focus away from "amateur/community/player development" to more commercial & income driven, but already partly covered by Des in OP, totally understand the need for viability and happy to wait and see over coming months.
Could represent good opportunities. Big thanks to Tkay, Tighty and all those who"ve invested so much time and $ in the past and ofc in the future. Good luck with new ventures to all concerned.

On it as "lubandige" - don"t ask it"s a long story

Sigh - I can see where this is going - but no.......

When will the 1st direct buyin be running through the new poker room? Will it be for Nottingham in August or are there already sponcerships in place that have to be honoured first. Cheers

The satellites and buyin for the ECOAP at Dusk Till Dawn will be on the new poker room.

Banking is through Webdollar.
Rakeback is a thorny issue with the networks right now and we need to finalise our position, but I think it"s unlikely that we"ll be offering it. We may need to look to add value elsewhere.

It will be for Nottingham and I anticipate we"ll be running satellites across the first half of next week with direct buy in on Thursday.

Digesting it all. Sounds like a massive step and adventure.

Huge thanks to tighty and tikay for everything we know they"ve done for APAT and for everything they"ve done that we don"t know about!

Do any existing Poker.co.uk customers receive rakeback?
If they do.. will they continue to receive it?

I believe some do, quite how straight up they receive it isn"t clear, but that whole area needs to be looked at as I do not want APAT to fall foul of network rules.

I assumed that rakeback was paid, my question was really in relation to your statement, ".. but I think it"s unlikely that we"ll be offering it."
Does this mean that it will no longer be offered to those who currently get it?
Obviously you will be wanting to maintain the current player base.. stopping rakeback may not be the best way to acheive that.
-
I was being upfront with you Alan. I believe some players (very few as I understand it) receive it and I also know the network is anti it for all of their operators.
However I don"t know what the network"s stance is on players who may have earned it previously.
What I cannot see happening going forward is APAT offering rakeback....quote what that does to players who might currently receive, I genuinely don"t know yet.
I do know that we want to run the online room in an entirely fair way and one that sits very clearly with the operating guidelines of the network.
It"s a bit tricky hence the cautionary answer, but we"d like to get it right.
-
Just wanted to wish you all the best with the venture Des, if anyone knows hows to make a success of this you do! Great to see Leigh back in the fold. Good luck to everyone involved. Jas
-
A bit of a late response to this, have been offline much of the week
I am pretty sure this is a fantastic move for APAT, and will do much to drive it forward in the years ahead. Certainly the right people are involved in the team to do that.
A combination of things means I have to step aside from that team, but I very much hope I"ll be updating a good number of APATs going forward on an ad-hoc basis. I might play the odd one too.
This will allow me to kid myself, right up until the cards are dealt, that I know a good deal about all of your playing styles and tendencies and I can play accordingly :D
All the best to everyone, see lots of you at DTD I hope!

Welcome to APAT, Matt.

Baffled as to how Jc ends up in a players hand after being discarded.
Or am I being duped as well?
Didn"t realise Matt was a T.V star ;)

Surely only the viewers are getting duped there.

Didn"t realise it was still on YouTube.

Just noticed the APAT Private games on the new site....
-
Good morning.
I wanted to comment on this thread sooner, but I"ve been away in Vegas for a month, (I returned yesterday afternoon) working & playing, & so time did not permit, sorry.
A few points.....
1) First up, congratulations to all involved. I think APAT will continue to go from strength to strength, & this move finally gives us - sorry, you!..... - some independence. An excellent deal for all, & I congratulate everyone, & wish them well.
2) I want to stress that I did not wish to resign from APAT as such, but commercial considerations & clashes meant the position was untenable. I need to keep my hands clean in all matters, & whether I made it known, or kept it private, holding Management stakes in competing Online Rooms was not really right for any of the parties. So, after agonising over it, I decided I had to resign.
3) I have done very little (item 4) apart) for APAT for 3 or 4 years now. As Des & Tighty will readily confirm, I did offer my resignation on numerous occasions, as I felt guilty that I was not contributing much, but it was always refused by Des. That man is a fool....;)
4) Despite my resignation, I will continue to support, & big up from the rail, so to speak, all things APAT. I have always done this on blonde, on the TV Channel, on the Sky Poker Forum, & when out & about. In that respect, nothing has or will change.
5) Back in 2005, 6, & 7, when Tighty & I, led by Des, were helping set up APAT & get things moving, it was THE most exciting thing. Some of you will recall the hostility we faced, literally scores of pages of it, on loads of different Forums, it was extraordinary! I"ve never understood that, but I think it was really people thinking "it"s too good to be true". I actually look back on that opening skirmish with much affection, as a battle won, though it was not much fun at the time! Must be said, when a battle goes off, you DO want Des on your side, he is pokers answer to Billy Bremner. But, together, we did it. My time at APAT will always be at the very top of my Poker CV, nothing else I have done, or helped do, in poker even remotely approaches it.
So, a huge thank you to everyone, not just Des, & Tighty, but especially to the Membership - I made so many friends via APAT, & I will always be immensely proud of what we, all of us, achieved together.
Good luck & congrats to Des, to Matt, to everyone else on the Management Team, & to the Membership. I wish you all well.
Remember, it was APAT that first gave "grown-up" structures to regular recreational players, until APAT come along, we regular players were confined to dreadful tourney structures. 10,000 chip well-structured tourneys were confined to £1,000 buy-ins & up. Now everyone can play decent structured Live Poker. They have APAT to thank for that.
APAT IS the greatest, & I don"t see that ever changing, it is in safe hands.
-
Thanks very much Tony, those words mean a great deal to the team and I.
You have been a fantastic partner in this initiative over the years and I have no doubt there will be times ahead when I"ll need advice and it"s your door that I will knock on. Knowing you as I do, I know it will remain open also.
Since the day I chased you around inner London, it"s been emotional...

That would be a whole chapter in a book in itself...... you don"t take no for an answer, & I did try!
I had recently retired, & just wanted to slow down, & chill, but you were not listening. As it turned out, I would not have missed it for the world.
Think you first nailed me @ Gutshot one night, & later, when I was working on Poker Week, or Poker 425, & you even came across to the studios in Wapping one day & we met in the Canteen. I"m in a hurry, as ever, & hoped to get it over with quickly. Then you tabled your 195 page Power Point Presentation, & insisted I read every page.......;)

You"ve been the engine behind APAT since the very start Rich and we (especially many of the players wives and mothers!) are going to miss your incredible sense of humour in the live updates.
Thanks for everything you"ve done, from travelling to the far flung corners of the globe to having to deal with last minute venue issues. I don"t think I"ve ever heard you properly complain. Even when you had to spend an hour standing outside Orangewings in freezing conditions while the world seemed to implode all around us. Happy days :)
Look forward to having you guest update for us and above all, play!
Thanks again.
Des.

Haha, I"ve still got that presentation....and tens of thousands of emails that seem to have gone over and back between yourself, Tighty and myself over the years. God, what a blast we had, particularly in season one. To think it was nearly scuppered by PayPal the day before launch!

Des.

Really good news about the new site, I"m sure it takes alot of planning, organising and hard work to make that happen so congratulations on doing an awesome job.
Hey, have you guys thought about patching up satellite qualifiers at live events to start raising awareness etc?.....

Just got back from a week away...
Really good news this; bodes well for the future of APAT.
Sad to see Tighty"s involvement reducing but hopefully he will be around at many events.
Good to see Leigh back.
Des & Tikay, get a room ;)
...and finally since no-one (as far as I"ve noticed) has taken advantage of the open goal which has been presented to us, I"ll tap it in...
Welcome Matt ::)

Thank you to both Tikay & Tighty for well everything! I"m sure neither will be strangers, I truly hope not. Never was so much owed by so many to so few...
A big hello to Matt - took ages to think of another word apart from welcome, and it"s great news to have Leigh back on board too.
Can"t wait for the new APAT clothing range either, presumably there will be an input from Mattalan?
