The Amateur Poker Association & Tour (APAT) have today announced a partnership with the International Stadiums Poker Tour (ISPT), which will cover four APAT Championship festivals in season six.
The partnership will start with this weekend"s APAT European Championship of Amateur Poker (ECOAP) which takes place at Dusk Till Dawn. ISPT UK representative Stephen McLean will be on hand at the Nottingham venue to kick start a world wide promotional campaign which the ISPT hope will bring together a field of 30,000 poker players; vying for a share of an estimated £20 million prize pool, at London"s Wembley Stadium in May 2013.
"All the poker fans are welcome, from amateurs to professionals. Therefore, partnering APAT was completely natural for us" said Prosper Masquelier, CEO of ISPT.
Des Duffy, Managing Director of the Amateur Poker Association & Tour said: "APAT are happy to lend our support to the ISPT. We created the UK"s first national poker tour and are excited that our members will have the opportunity to qualify for the UK"s largest ever poker event, online at APAT.com."
The events for which APAT and ISPT will partner are as follows:-
* Aug 24 to 27 - European Championship of Amateur Poker - Dusk Till Dawn, Nottingham
* October 13 to 14 - Scottish Amateur Poker Championship - Alea, Glasgow
* January 26 to 27 - United Kingdom Team Championship - G Casino, Luton
* March 28 to April 1 - World Championship of Amateur Poker - Dusk Till Dawn, Nottingham
Details of APAT's ISPT satellite structure will be announced shortly, while the player of the series at this weekend"s European Championship of Amateur Poker will be awarded the first prized seat to the Wembley event.

There is a monster thread on 2+2 [HERE (http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/29/news-views-gossip/international-stadiums-poker-tour-wembley-may-31-june-6-2013-prize-pool-approx-20-000-000-a-1107003/)] which covers a lot of this....along with the usual vitriol poured on anything new.
The user "carfax" is the UK organiser and is answering the questions he can (much like our Des).
I think that carfax is Steve McLean (sp) who some might have met at DTD this weekend...I could be wrong on that.
It does seem as though some of the goalposts have been moving on the €20m though. Latest I read up to seemed to indicate that this was guaranteed (and in escrow) but rather covered the prize pool for the whole series and not just this single comp.
Take in the whole 40+ pages....if you can stand the usual trollish behaviour from 2+2.
But mostly...I"m with Alan.

I actually think that if this event succeeds, it could be great bringing poker further into the mainstream. This might not seem like too big a deal to anyone in England/Scotland/Wales, but for the likes of the NI market, getting mainstream recognition of the game can only increase the chances of us being allowed to play.
Agree the rake seems very high, but yet to hear if there will be much added value to the prizepool to help make up for this.
Think in general poker players are very spoilt, and very negative in general. Sure, this may not be as +EV as a random stars mtt, UKIPT, etc, but it has the potential to be a fantastic unique event. Stephen is very experienced at marketing larger than life events, and with people like Sam Trickett on board, and the opportunity to play in Wembley, Im sure it will not be hard to draw a lot of players from all levels.
Wish them all the best, hope it succeeds, and will try and support it by making sure Im there on the day.

I"m assuming that players will sit in the spectator seats in the stands at Wembley and play with a laptop on their knee. 10 hours in one of those plastic seats is going to be pretty uncomfortable and very tilting..... unless I"m missing something?

ooops deleted last message instead of modifying it. :-\
Anyway, I find the ISPT website lacking basic info just now tbh, you guys obviously have more info and I"m sure you wouldn"t have jumped in feet first without it. Hope this turns into a great partnership for you. ;)

I believe there will be more information released on the 3rd September.
It was good for those that had the opportunity to speak with Stephen on the weekend to get some feedback in face to face.
We"ll be putting up a satellite structure on the APAT Online Cardroom once we"ve got some more feedback from our players as to their thoughts on the event and how best to qualify.
As usual, keep the discussion and feedback coming. It helps us to make the right plans for all our members.

I wish I"d known he was there, I"d have asked him about the juice.

He arrived on Saturday evening, not sure if he stayed for the Sunday.
I"ll try and get him onto the forum to answer some questions as long as it doesn"t turn into a 2+2 stylee thread ;)

I"m wary that mods here keep bashing the 2+2 thread. Most people in that thread were not trolling. They had valid questions and concerns that simply weren"t responded to which inevitably got frustrating.

I"m not bashing any 2+2 thread, and even if I was, I"m really not sure why you should be wary of that.
We"ll get answers to the questions that our members have. By looking to run satellites and support this event, we"ll need to ensure that our members get all the information that they need.
We"ve always worked like that, and we always will.

We have pointed out to ISPT what the flaws are in their current logic and indeed a large number of our players have fed back directly also, at DTD. You need to bear in mind that Stephen is in a somewhat similar position to ourselves in that he has a good deal of experience and he is trying to utilise that to improve the ISPT proposition. Whether he achieves any improvements is to be determined, but I hope he does.
Now I don"t like to knock new initiatives, certainly not until I understand all of the details involved. We"re clearly not at that position with ISPT yet. APAT had plenty of knockers (oh err) when we first launched and we seem to have done just fine. I understand the ridiculous rake charge includes contributions towards the use of Wembley stadium and the technical and security infrastructure, a lot of which will make this a completely unique event; a bit of a poker woodstock if you will.
In addition the ISPT might bring a lot of new recreational players into the game. It will almost certainly (based on my discussions) have a large guaranteed prize pool; which is likely to be across a number of events taking place, not just the main event.
Ultimately...as always, players have the choice as to whether they want to play or not and sometimes I wonder why some allow themselves to get worked up over something they don"t intend to participate in. Alan - remember your blood pressure! ;)
Either way, APAT has covered a decent percentage of our operational budget for the remainder of the year and that"s a good thing for us and for you.

That final remark gets them a lot of play in my book regardless of whether I think it will be a success or not.

However they are having a press conference on 3rd Sept, so maybe there will be answers to many questions then.
This didn"t happen.

Hopefully a sign that they are listening to feedback, but time will tell.

The rumour from 2+2 (from a generally solid source) "Spoke with someone prominent in French poker media, they said to expect the ISPT press conference to take place later this month at Wembley Stadium."

ISPT are a partner of APAT, so I think the sensible thing to do is to wait until the press conference, when they have already stated they will be dealing with the issue of the guarantee, etc.
+1. I"m sure some of us have doubts but let"s keep the comments in proportions please.
