Title: Dusk Till Dawn Caribbean Poker Party Main Event - SOLD OUT
Post by: pokerpops on November 09, 2012, 16:10:44 PM
Somehow or other I managed to win an entry to the $2700+$300 Main Event ... the story is told in my blog and on the Blonde Updates.
Had the rules been different, I might even have won two entries...

http://pokerdb.thehendonmob.com/player.php?a=r&n=210781

I"m pretty sure I"m not good value in a field that will include a lot of people more accustomed to the buy in level. James Dempsey, Sam Trickett, Devilfish, Andrew Feldman, Marcel Luske, Rob Yong and more besides. But there will be a healthy number of satellite winners as well and stranger things have happened...
http://tinyurl.com/7z36xea

I will be focussing my efforts on the Main Event and although I hope to play the "Win the Button" tourney on the Wednesday night I plan to be fresh and ready for Day 1a on Thursday.

The plan is to "get hands and get paid" early on. It"s a 30k stack and an hour clock. I made 52nd of 910 in the last DTD £500 with this structure going out when I ran KK into AA for a serious stack.

So, I"m selling 20% at 1:1

1% = $30 = £19 approx. Convert back at the same rate regardless of what the actual rate is at time of either conversion seems fair?

Obviously I"m playing regardless of staking but selling a small % to cover some of the incidentals of being there and shares the joy if I run deep and into the money.

Max 5% to any one staker please. I"m guessing that"s not going to be an issue :)

Congratulations. Did you win a satellite? Be good to have another fellow APAT member there. Mark Lint who won his trip at the July Grand Prix is also a member.

I lived the dream for 16 levels and through 84 exits but AA
I believe I"ve played the best poker of my life hereafter times here. For all but two hands on Day 1 and the entirety of Day 2 I felt totally comfortable.

There was a period today where I lost it, but I recovered with a couple pushes and felt very confident of the cash and perhaps more. Sometimes someone else"s bad call is the difference between success and failure. It was tonight for me.

Thanks for your support. We almost made it happen.
.
Exit hand..2500/500/500. I raise    to 21k in mp with one limper, one caller to JP who makes it 52k
I shove for around 190 total, caller folds, JP calls from around 300 I think.
Q on the turn.

mbn

Anyone else calling there? Given the situation, the old bloke with the beard putting all his chips on the line so close to the money bubble, is QQ ahead of, or even in decent shape against anything I shove with?

I think a lot of players would call with QQ here... of course I don"t know the table dynamics.
You had a great chance to get a lot of chips close to the money, so congrats with your great performance.

Too bad you didn"t get rewarded for your great play

If my maths are ok, going with your numbers, he needed to call 138k to win 259k. I doubt he thinks that even the "old bloke with the beard" has a range limited to AA/KK in that spot - he probably includes AK, JJ, and possibly even TT in your range..... in which case the pot odds are probably right to call. I don"t think he can 3-bet a hand as strong as QQ then fold it to a shove that gives him nearly 2:1 to call.

Unlucky David but vwp to get that far with what looks like a pretty strong field....must be such a gutter to go out like that so close to the money but u cant beat yourself up about it as not much more u can do apart from get your money in good and pray to the gods!!

The prob u got here is that JP obv doesnt really care about the min cash and is always playing for the win so if he thinks he is a fav he is obv gonna call and is also likely to take a coinflip there to take a massive pot and glide to FT....see he is 1/9 going in!!......he could easily put u on 99+ AQ/AK and prob even snaps u off with AQ or AK just to take the chance that he has live cards, hits and builds a nice stack whilst getting 1 closer to the money and FT.

Ul again and let us know next live event to have a piece of.

Running hands through pokerstove is all very well if you apply an accurate range to your opponent. Most ranges used to justify a call are wider than reality though, and he may well have given me a wide range including  maybe Qd 6d and maybe mr & mrs bun but he"d be wrong to do that.  Having recovered to where I was, I can say with 100% certainty that I"d only be 50/50 to shove KK there.

meh, what the hell, I rode that ****ing pony all the way to a cooler/suck out from the final table. I took on the Devilfish and The Bandit and saw them off. I outlasted a lot of so-called heroes. I stayed sober enough not to upset the staff and I had a  ****ing marvellous holiday.

Thanks for the report David.. Unlucky not to run deeper, you cant do anything different in the exit hand it was basically a cooler.. Be proud of your achievement to out last so many accomplished professionals who play for a living..

I"m sure I speak for most if not all of us recreational players.. well played sir!!

Thanks for the sweat look forward to future staking  :)

Last word on the exit hand...

Had I played better earlier of Day3 I"d have survived this. It is a cooler, simple as, but I learnt something along the way, and gained a chunk of confidence.

Am I being touchy though in thinking that maybe the Pro that took me out might have made the effort to say "unlucky" to me at some stage over the next day and a half whilst we were both still there? Or is that just something a recreational player might do?

Don"t think it"s a pro or recreational thing its more of whether the person concerned actually gives a **** how you feel thing, imho. ;)
