Welcome back to Dusk Till Dawn, where today we will conclude the five day World Championship of Amateur Poker Festival....and what a fantastic day we have in prospect.
We will see day 2 and a World Amateur Poker Champion crowned in the main event, plus the 64 runner knockout Heads Up Championship.
Stick with us through the day until we stream live from the tv stage later this evening with the final table of the main event.
It might just be amazing...

All 64 players have made the cash, with a guaranteed minimum of £200 for 64th. So, with the bubble already burst, we"re expecting a rush of exits in the first few levels.
News reaches of JPRound"s 63rd place exit, unluckily running Aces into a set.

I know this will probably sound like sour grapes (as I busted on the last hand of the night last night), but I think it"s very disappointing that we were playing on the bubble last night (and indeed the night before) without knowing it. There was a lot of speculation about how many players would be paid without any definitive answers.
The bubble is an integral part of any tournament and affects how everyone plays, so for the tournament to effectively not have a bubble is regrettable. Hopefully this won"t happen again in future events.
Good luck to Andy Hayes today!

Short-stacked Carl Pilgrim surives an early scare. All-in on table no. 14, the small blind of Andrew Hayes dwells for a few minutes, but finds a fold. The big blind of Jo Harris also folds.
We are down to 45 players.

Thanks Des.
Just to be clear, it"s not the fact that I was the bubble boy that bothers me (it"s happened often enough that I almost expect it!). It"s that I didn"t know that everyone coming back for day 2 would be paid - if I did I might have folded my 12k stack on the last hand of the night and taken the cash. The other Paul Taylor being chip leader going into day 2 was just an extra rub down!
Aside from this issue I really enjoyed the weekend.

Does not sound like sour grapes to me Paul but on the 1st day you just dont know when the bubble is till you finnished day 2 late reg then you should know soon after this how many get paid. but as for not having a bubble i have to say im not a big fan on changing it on day2 to pay the bubble off unless all the players had said yes then thats fine, but for me if iv got chips and we are on the bubble thats when you can build a big stack to push on to take the comp down so the longer the bubble goes on the better pluss its is the best part of any comp

Does not sound like sour grapes to me Paul but on the 1st day you just dont know when the bubble is till you finnished day 2 late reg then you should know soon after this how many get paid.
Exactly. This is why the bubble cannot be at the end of multiple day 1s, because it"s impossible to know how many players will be paid until every player is registered.
I think the problem in this tournament was that too many levels were played on Day 1 resulting in too few progressing to Day 2. I believe we played one level fewer than planned as it was apparent that too many players were busting out on the first Day 1. This was probably accelerated due to the largest blind jump of the structure in the final level of Day 1 (from 1k/2k to 1.5k/3k) and I"d have liked to see an extra level (say 1.2k/2.4k) here to ease this jump.
I appreciate that it"s difficult to create a structure which enables the tournament to be finished in 2 days with the bubble being early day 2. This one was very close to optimal, but there"s room for improvement in future events I think.
Sorry for derailing the thread btw.

For me this event should been 25k starting stack like the DTD Deeptack Paul that runs fine every month with a early bubble on day 2, but like Des has said they will look into it and make sure it does not happen again

Gabriel Macavoray raises utg to 20k. The next 2 players fold and Tod Wood makes it 65k to go.
It folds back round to Gabriel who goes into the tank.
5 minutes later he"s still stacking and unstacking his chips, and checks his cards again one last time before asking "Queens?"... and finally finding the fold.
Tod flips Kings. "You"re too good" he says.
Gabriel says "I knew you had something."
The player to Gabriel"s left, Ronaldo Amir, reveals that the previous hand Tod had Aces.. So, Kings this hand, must mean Queens the next hand...
Sure enough, the very next hand Tod is dealt Queens and takes the pot down with a pre-flop raise..

Two Aces on the board, and a 320k pot is headed to Guy. Mike still with a healthy stack. (counts to follow again soooon).

With the departure of Jo Harris from table Tod Wood, Gabriel Macaravoy is now button to Tod"s big blind. With the previous attacks from Gabriel in cut-off to Tod"s bigblind (just about every time it was folded round to him), this can only get more aggressive now there is one less player between them...
There may be a clash between these 2 players very soon...
-
The first semi final of the heads up is complete, seeing Vikrum Mehta beat Richard Sheils, to book his seat in the final.
Richard will play in the 3rd/4th place play off...

Gabriel Macavoray, now very short stacked, all in from utg+1 manages to treble up despite getting 2-callers when the river is a 2 pairing him up.
The next hand, a bit less short-stacked, he shoves all in again (for 82k). The next player to act, Ronaldo Amir, in an attempt to isolate makes it 164k to go. Ian Bills also comes along for the ride, for his stack.

Gabriel Macavoray: 5c 3c (had shoved without looking at his cards).

-
On the far table Ryunosuke loses a 1m pot when his QQ is no good versus the 99 of Eirimas Livonas on a board of:
8h 3s 5d 9h 6h.
Ryu still on 500k+. Eirimas up to 1m+
-
We are now on the bubble for the final table. Carwyn Jenkins leaving us in 11th place. Unfortunately I do not have the hand details.
-
Ronaldo Amir all in 3 hands in a row. The first 2 allow him to pick up the blinds.
Third time he"s not so lucky, with Mike Sweeney - after some thought - finding a call with A s Qh
Ronaldo flips Qd Kc

And the final table bubble has burst.

Well folks, it"s been an incredible five days here at Dusk Till Dawn.
Thanks everyone for coming and supporting APAT at the WCOAP, and indeed everyone who participated across season six, as we are wrapping that also tonight. From Matt, Leigh, myself and the wider APAT team, have a great few weeks until we announce season seven and do it all over again!
I"d like to also thank Nick and the DTD team who put on an incredible show for us all year after year. Every city needs one!
Until, umm....soon. ;)
We love ya!

Thanks everyone for the support. APAT is awesome. Gutted not to win the title and annoyed with how I played the final hand but overall I"m delighted and congratz to Eirimas for winning the gold and indeed all the FTers. A million thanks as always to Des, Tighty and the team. Sorry I couldn"t bring it home. Still, not a bad couple of days. ;D
Laters, dudes!
-
Really looking forward to seeing the recordings of the TV table when they are put up here (within the next 2 weeks). The cash game final table was excellent viewing, and the commentary from Tighty throughout all the FTs I watched was exceptional. Some of the guest commentary was also excellent (I"m very impressed with APAT members knowledge of the different games), and I was laughing my head off at Tony Trippier"s contributions from the FT of the ME (much to the bemusement/annoyance of Des/Ian who couldn"t hear what I was hearing).
-
Did we know who ended up POTS and crowned player of the WCOAP?..
Reckon must of been a tight run affair with a few players making a couple of good runs Kevin O Hanlon springs to memory Vik Mehta?
-
i was definitely not in the running carl but i would imagine the main event winner would be favourite as i believe there was double points for the main event
-
Think Vik had it locked, know Chris Webber was close with 2 FTs (2nd in cash and 6th in stud) and a cash in the HU
TBH i thought my 3 cashes woulda put me somewhere close, as in prior years 2 cashes has taken it....not this time
