Title: Who are the 'oldest' APAT Members on the forum??
Post by: Des on October 11, 2013, 11:24:08 AM
We opened the forum on May 25th, 2007 and have had over 11,000 members register for it.

If you would like to know what your member joining number was, then roll the mouse pointer over your forum name and in the bottom left hand corner of the screen you will see your "profile" number.

In the following example we can see that Don (Hammerite) was member number 92.

Post yours here and tell us where and when you played your first APAT event!

2409 - guess that makes me a youngster!

Season 2 - Cardiff. Spent a day with the late Rich Stevenson sat to my left. What an intro to APAT. What a guy.

728.

Luton in 2007. Spent all day with Ger to my left.

Typical fun that day, I travel 180 miles to my first event and later find out that the guy to my left lives 5 feckin" minutes away from my house!

1045 - August 25th 2007.

First APAT was Cardiff ... think it was Season two. Had Kinboshi on my right and Turny on the table who both were really helpful and telling me not to worry. Also had the clock called on me ... think that experience has contributed to my insta-fold habit ever since haha.

Here is my first APAT

(http://i779.photobucket.com/albums/yy71/HoldyFoldy/2630_85164140395_4431836_n_zps3460f36c.jpg) (http://s779.photobucket.com/user/HoldyFoldy/media/2630_85164140395_4431836_n_zps3460f36c.jpg.html)

And here is my most recent one:

(http://i779.photobucket.com/albums/yy71/HoldyFoldy/1240309_603688153007682_632513566_n_zps44a43850.jpg) (http://s779.photobucket.com/user/HoldyFoldy/media/1240309_603688153007682_632513566_n_zps44a43850.jpg.html)

and this is typical of the stack size I have had through them all :D

Finally, can we ban Des for multi-accounting?

Pretty sure Newcastle was my first tournament (s2?)

1st or maybe 2nd time ever live.  Remember specifically the surprise and friendliness with everyone clapping when someone went out.

2nd APAT was Edinburgh...I drove (7hrs) to play in it, KK vs AA, and I was out quicker than it took me to drive up!

Number 62 for me

first event for me was Dublin in S1 (an event that sold out in less than 3 minutes)

I didn"t really socialise off the table as I didn"t know anyone. I was also there with my wife who was wandering around dublin on her own.

I still remember my starting table. It had Mary Martin,  Stu Oliver and Brendan (who finalled) on it. I only remember big Laz (RIP) on my next table. On my next table, I only remember getting stacked by A5 > 99 late in the day.

Was a great experience. The real highlight was being interviewed by Ex Mrs Colclough (on the orders of Des) only to find out during the interview that she was meant to interview some Norwegian guy, who had flown over especially for the tourney. Flying over from Manchester just didn"t get the TV juices flowing so it ended up on the cutting room floor (though Des reckons it exists somewhere??). I actually met the Norwegian guy a year later in scotland and was amazed at the resemblance. He would make a good stunt double in a movie of my life :D :D :D :D

Earliest memories of APAT are bluffing Ironside off a huge pot online as he was laddering for points (Season 1) and I think my first live was the Fitz in 2007 where I travelled with Micky P on his 40th birthday (I met him at 6am at the airport - guess where! and what was he holding?)

Took loads of chips off Brendan Hartnett with 83o after winning the hand before with 83o in the BB. Then lost most of them on a huge cooler to a local guy who left his stack mid game to return to hospital!! Finished 18th after busting out (I think it might have been with AJ!). Railed Brendan to the end - fond memories.

2063 - registered in 2007 but only made 8 posts before 2010.

First event was Manchester (last event of season 3, team event playing for Blonde) in January 2010. Team was:-

Dawn
Darren
Asa
Mickyp
Frank
Colin
Paul Tuff
Me

With those seven I got an idea of what APAT was about quite quickly. Also got introduced to some team called Chezger who seemed to spend most of their time at the bar and ended up sat next to Ger in a side event (I think he knocked me out and won) They don"t make teams at team events like they use too. :)

724 - first APAT was Luton Season 1 in 2007 which I final tabled after returning on day 2 via a round trip back to Telford with a bottom 5 stack (nothing changed there). I remember quite a few things clearly from that event:

On the first table there was a guy raising almost every hand. I played 3 or 4 hands against him blind just so I could watch him without worrying about my own cards. I bet him off every one except one which went to the river. He tabled middle pair and I managed to find a set of queens lol.

I ran a massive bluff against (who I now know to be) Kinboshi mid way through day 1 that set me up well. He thought about calling for ages and ages, so long that I could almost not breathe. He folded showing me a winning hand.

Last hand before the dinner break (they used to give us food you know) I was in the BB. There was a shove from mid-position and a re-shove from the guy next to him who had me covered. I remember joking about needing aces or kings with them both - then looked at my cards and bingo KK. It was 1010 v JJ v KK and I held.

I met a great guy Marcin. His English was far worse than it is now (can you believe that) and he made a massive mistake during a hand mid-evening that was more about his English than his poker, losing half of his stack in the process. I spent the next half hour telling him to get his head together and not worry he still had plenty of chips (average stack in fact). He kept saying I don"t care I don"t care I go all in blind bla bla and somehow I convinced him to play poker. He pulled himself together and ended up making day 2 and cashing for I think £600 just short of the final. We"ve been good friends ever since. I have often thought since then that true poker players wouldn"t/shouldn"t encourage another player after a mistake so perhaps I"m too soft to ever be any good at the game.

Making the final table meant I got on TV. The review was aired on Sky Sports 1 a channel which at my age and fitness should never have me on it! The APAT portion of the show is here containing some familiar faces as well as some that raise the "where are they now?" question:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0uAldU45nUI (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0uAldU45nUI)

I sat and watched the heads up battle which was fantastic, back and forth for ages and Gareth Ower was a deserved winner.

After this 2008 was a busy year for us both and I missed the whole of Season 2, so my second event was season 3 Walsall in 2009 and I somehow managed to final table that too (finished 5th) AND got on telly again. It was an otherwise dull event with a final table loaded with fish, especially the luckbox medal winners:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cs2t6sxvhh4

Ahh the memories :)

Blonde Poker Team  (aka Team Earmuffs)

Dawn Dineen - Laxie (captain)
Asa McGrath - amcgrathuk1
Colin Wilson - cdw1111
Frank Bailie - Cormach123
Darren Shallis - Newportlad
Michael Patterson - mickyp
Steve Roderick -Rod
Paul Tuff -Tuffster

My opening table

Table 6-1:  Brian Yates (Black Country Poker Club)
Table 6-2:  Steve Talbot (Eat My Stack)
Table 6-3:  Asa McGrath (Blonde Poker)
Table 6-4:  Ben Russell (FISO)
Table 6-5:  Steve Robinson (Furness Poker)
Table 6-6:  Eoin Morris (NI Poker)
Table 6-7:  Sean Perry (UK Poker Info)
Table 6-8:  Graeme Defty (Raise The River)
Table 6-9:  Philip Quinn (Sky Poker)
Table 6-10:  Jon Woodfield (The Hendon Mob)

That was my 1st game, in the UK Team Championships in Manchester. Not a bad lil group of 8 players me thinks. Only Laxie made day 2  ;D although, with about 60 remaining, we were favourites still having 6 in iirc.

220.  I actually can"t remember which was my first APAT event - my brain is like a sieve these last few years.  I know I haven"t played half as many as I"d have liked to, and not sure if/when I"ll get the opportunity to make another event.  Making day two of an APAT event is still on my to-do list though!

4614. A relative newbie!

I think my first APAT was Dublin 2009. I made Day 2 and came about 25th. I remember Des interviewing me before Day 2 started and it was clear from my answers that I was very new to the events! I think it"s still on YouTube somewhere. Always interesting to see how long it takes each year group of pupils to find the clip!

I final-tabled Bolton at the end of that year, then nothing but the odd Day 2 since. Better in APAT online events and in Vegas (easier to play against pros, obviously).

4856 pour moi

My first APAT was WCOAP 2009 at DTD where Paul Pitchford tried to do the double, I played the HORSE where I had my first meeting with Colin O"Prey and JP Round, I played the omaha and was destroyed fairly quickly and I played the main event and was knocked out by the Norwegian who final tabled.

The year of Charles Mason win and Ant Williams regretted fold  ;D

I love the APAT just wish I could play more and play better

Great people!

356, first APAT, was a regional in Manchester, and was my first time in a UK casino. Was great fun, I remember Stu, Wayne, Steve Coope, and Marcin being there, along with Tony, who had only one leg. Me and Tony got down to the final 3, and had some good craic.
My first national was in Coventry and I was nearly two hours late due to horrendous traffic, Kinboshi and Carl Lybert were on my table, and I shoved three times in a row at one point, Carl finally doubling me up!

Remembering my first live APAT tournament is an easy one, as it was the first time I had ever played live poker.  It was Bolton in 2009 and I made every newbie mistake you can - I was warned for lifting my cards off the table, string betting etc - you name it, I did it.

BUT, amazingly, I not only made the final table (with Tony Trippier and Andy Duncan amongst others) but I came second!  Obviously I was hooked and I"ve greatly enjoyed the craic at APAT events ever since.

The next event I played was the team event in Manchester where I played for Raise the River and came 12th.  At one point, well into the evening on the first day, I was back to back with Ant Williams who was on the same team.  I said to him "I"ve only played 5 hands all day.  How many for you?"  "Four", he replied.  I"ve loosened up a bit since then (I"ll have to reflect on whether this is a good thing).

Subsequent highlights have been captaining the Edgworth Cricket Club team to victory in the pub poker championships and playing for Ireland in the Home Internationals.

Undoubtedly the thing that has made APAT for me is the spirit in which the vast majority of folk in our community play the game.  Ethos is everything.

Says 1058?  That cant be right.

First event was Worlds few years back, chipped up early on and then got moved to a table with Dave Howard.

Was going well until 5 mins from end of the day when i got AKss in vs KJo for almost double average for day 2.  Sadly i dont fade, even flopping the FD....sigh

Good Craic, but horrible drive home :(

My first APAT tournament was the Scottish leg of, I think, season 4 and I instantly loved APAT events. From then I have travelled to a few more, won a gold medal and had the pleasure of helping Team Scotland win the online league both as a minion and captain. We are looking forward to a new online league. ;) I have also met lots of great people who have put up with me at my best and worst (otherwise known as sobre and very very drunk!) and made some wonderful new friends from all over the UK, Ireland and beyond.

Looking forward to many more seasons and getting back to being more involved.
