Title: UK Team Championship - APAT Champions Team
Post by: IrishTom on November 23, 2013, 11:41:56 AM
I"m aware the deadline for applications has not yet closed, but it should be no surprise that APAT WILL be represented at the forthcoming UK Team Championship by 2 teams - the APAT Champions (holders of an APAT Gold Medal or APAT Bracelet) and APAT Forum (contributors to the APAT Forum).

The calling notice for the event can be found HERE (http://www.apat.com/forum/index.php?topic=14531.0).

To put your name forward to be selected for the APAT Champions team then either post on this thread or PM me HERE (http://www.apat.com/forum/index.php?action=pm;sa=send;u=8285).

APAT are pleased to announce the Captain for the "APAT Champions" Team will be Vaino " Rhino56" Tiik, who will now look to select and confirm his team.

Could all members who "volunteered" (either via the forum or by direct email or PM to myself) for the APAT Champions Team PLEASE contact Vaino direct HERE (http://www.apat.com/forum/index.php?action=pm;sa=send;u=6918) to confirm you are, or are not, still "available" - ASAP - I have passed your details onto him.

Anyone who would still like to volunteer for the team then please either post on this thread or contact Vaino ASAP - I"m sure he will be selecting his team pretty quickly!

APAT are helping Team Captains organise "team polo shirts" embroidered for £15 each and we have some pre-booked single rooms in the Quality Hotel, 100 yrds from the venue, for Fri/Sat night - please discuss with your Team Captain.

An example of the type of shirt/embroidery can be seen on the photo below (taken from the recent team shirts supplied for the ECOAP):

From ECOAP Team Day 1

We recommend for each shirt on the LHB the event name:

APAT (word logo)
2014 UK Team
Championship

and on the RHB your team name and player nickname:

Firstly I"d like to say what a great honour and privilege I consider it to be selected to captain the APAT Champions team at the forthcoming UK Team championships in Stoke.
Secondly I am relatively new to APAT and know very few of the applicants personally, although I guess we have clashed online sometime. Therefore I will be selecting players for the team with the best achievements/records/ rankings! I am already trawling though the archives to this end. It would make my job a little easier if each player who has applied for the team would confirm their interest along with notable APAT performances and/or other poker achievements. Please confirm which event you won your APAT Gold Medal in.
I hope to be able to confirm the team by next weekend to allow players time to make preparations for this great event

I am hoping to finalise selection for the APAT Champions Team soon. Thanks to all those applicants who have already confirmed their interest in playing for the team. I would appreciate it if the remaining players wishing to play would also confirm their wish to participate.

I"d like to start out by thanking all the players who put their names forward to be selected for the APAT Champions Team. All the applicants had outstanding credentials and left me a difficult choice, but as promised I have selected the players with the best records/achievements/rankings.
I feel the team is very strong and should be amongst the favourites to take down the title of UK Team Champions 2014.
That team is:
Vaino Tiik                Captain
Brendan Byrne
Tom Clark
Dave Garden
Warren Jones
Mark Lassman
John Murray
Don Roberts

I will be in touch personally with members of the team (hopefully tomorrow) with more details of the event.
In the meanwhile if any player has a preference for the colour of team shirts please let me know! I also need to know which name and/or nickname they require to be printed on the team shirts.

It was with terrible sadness that we learned of Vaino"s passing two days ago.

Vaino was to captain the APAT Champions team in the upcoming UK Team Championship, a team that he named seven days before his death.

I"m confident his team remain hungry to compete and do their best on Vaino"s behalf.  Can I ask for a volunteer Vice Captain from the existing team to pick one additional member and to manage the team for the event.

This is very sad news indeed.  :-[

Unfortunately due to my work and training schedule, I"m not in much of a position to organise anything at the moment so will have to ask one of the other team members to take on Captain"s duty..

I don"t mind doing the organisation, however I have booked my train back to London for 8pm on the Sunday, the tickets are specific for that time and non transferable or refundable, I don"t feel that the captain disappearing at a time when we might be reaching the climax of the competition would look good either for myself or Apat and therefore I would like to pass the baton to someone else. If no one else steps up I will do what I can with the organisation part, but hopefully someone will step up to the plate.

Hope you aren"t on the FT at that time then. :)

I"ve no issues with the organisational side of things (I will be in Stoke Friday afternoon/evening and leaving Monday afternoon), my captaincy experience is limited and IMHO there are far better and more experienced candidates in the team, however I"m happy to go with the flow.

25/1 shot for making ft but extra night at hotel out of winnings in the unlikely event  ;D

At least we have two possibles and four still to comment from the team, so I guess we will see what the others say. I think the shirts orders have to be in tomorrow, so If all team members can pm me their size player name to be printed and if you want 1 or 2 shirts then I can collate the replies for Tom.

I have only seen this now with regards the team. Is a vice captain neccessary? It is only an MTT so surely a team huddle before the event would suffice and in Vaino"s honour we can pull together. There are some lads that have a wealth of experience they can share.
With regards to a new team member I wouldnt be comfortable in choosing a replacement and I think as its an APAT team Des/Tom should choose as they know all the applicants.

*Reckon you would be a decent captain actually

Is a chap from Boro more in command of the English language than a Glaswegian?  Haha

Cheers mate xx

Well the majority of us in the team aren"t English so maybe we can get lessons in Stoke ;D

I like the idea of us all just having a team chat before the game,
then putting in a performance that would have made Vaino proud.

If Don or Tom are happy to order the shirts, collect the entry fee and nominate an extra player then that would be great.

Sounds good to me....

Without trying to sound insensitive, I"d already sent my money for shirt and entry to Vaino so not sure what happens here?

Hi guys, apologies as I"ve been away for a while and missed a few things so playing catch up now.

If I could ask Tom Clark to act as Team Captain please - he will be my poc going forward from here onwards.

Except for the polo shirt order - Don if I could ask you to continue with your offer to get the order pulled together and let me know asap - don"t worry about deadline tomorrow - if I could have it over this weekend at the latest that will be fine thank you.

Regarding money - I believe you may all have paid the buyin and/or polo shirt order to Vaino - could I ask you all to send Tom Clark an email ASAP and inform him of what you paid (£55 buyin? 1 shirt £15? 2 shirts £30?) - Tom we can then chat and take this forward asap.  Could you please also confirm to Tom in the email if you wanted, or still want, single room accommodation for Fri and Sat at £75 total - Tom I"ve already got a room booked for you.

If anyone has any queries or problems please either contact myself or Tom Clark (but please give us a day or two to investigate some areas).

Hi all

Just to add a bit to what Tom has said above - I"ll be in touch with you all in the next day or two (hopefully tonight) regarding payment and hotel requirements - I know some of us had transferred funds to Vaino so once I know who has paid what I can pass this on to Tom and take it from there.  Please don"t hesitate to get in touch with me should you have any queries.

Due to our captain"s sad passing, could I also request that anyone interested in representing "Team Vaino" with an APAT Gold Medal to their name to get in touch with me ASAP please for consideration.  I"ll be looking to make a relatively quick decision due to the short timescales involved but all interest is welcomed.

I"d rather not be leading the team in such unfortunate circumstances so lets put in a performance that Vaino would be proud of and justify his faith in us.  We can also discuss the best way to pay tribute to an APAT legend.

Thanks all and look forward to seeing you in Stoke
Tom

Suz - multi-tabling within one casino is hard, but doing so from Aspers in Stratford all the way to Stoke is going to be really tough.

Guess you not playing PokerPlayer now....  ;)
