Title: WCOAP - Omaha
Post by: Badger on June 27, 2008, 12:58:36 PM
Hi,

Appreciate that the focus is on the Forum competition in July, but is there any info on the WCOAP Omaha game 27th Aug.
I see when the sat is, but is it PLO, HI/lO, limit, no limit?
Also what is the structure going to be since it is only a one day event?
When will it start?

Cheers.

Don"t be silly, these things aren"t decided until 2 days before the event! ;D

PLO (high only) FTW!

On the contrary Mr D, the structures have been agreed for these events some time ago and dealer training is also well underway.  We"ll get details out shortly.

Dealer training Des ?

I"d be more worried about lack of player training. ;D

Would be nice to know considering the registering date is approaching fast and they knew 3 weeks ago.

My bet is on PLO Hi/Lo

I"m actually guessing the other way....PLO (High Only).
Title: Re: WCOAP - Omaha

I think it will be PLO (High only), as it tends to be this unless otherwise stated.  However, this is a bit of a shame.  I for one, really enjoy PLO high-Low, but have never yet found and MTT for this game.

Perhaps APAT could consider making the omaha event a mixture of both for next year.  It would certainly make things interesting............ :o

The PLO is high only on this occasion.  If we see demand for these events it would be our intention to add additional events to the World Championship of Amateur Poker schedule in Season Three.

My vote for more events would go to 2-7 triple draw, London Lowball and a mixed event which involves a round of each of 2-7 triple draw, London Lowball and Razz.

Who"s with me?  ;D

not sure about 2-7, and never heard of london lowball...... but I would love to play a HORSE event.   it"s a shame the online season is on BSQ - if it were on Stars, we could have a HORSE round to spice things up a bit.

Neigghhhhh not so :)

NLHE can get boring - mixed events keep you on your toes, and it"s refreshing to play a variety of formats within one tourney.

It has been confirmed as PLO... could APAT please confirm starting chips/clock and payout structure... if possible before 9.00pm!  ;)

Cheers.

Also Chips / Clock / betting structure (PL or FL) and payout for the Razz and Stud would nice.

All side events will offer a starting stack of 3,000 chips and run to the appropriate WSOP $1,500 structure, but with a 30 minute clock.  Each event will be dealer dealt and the Stud and Razz events are limit tournaments.  If there appears to be demand for the side events, we will look to further develop this festival going forward.

What about the payout structures? 10% of field / Final table paid? Percentages to each place?

Cheers,

We"ll look at number of entries before finalising but our thinking is standard APAT 10% of the field, at the moment.  Even if the events fill, the prize pools are going to be pretty small.

hmmmm at 3000 chips.

With a 30 minute clock, starting at 2.30pm you would easily finish in one day with 10k chips!!

The side event at Luton G fessie"s is a £250 with 30 min clock, starts at 8pm, usually around 50 runners and is done in a day - they give 7500.

Des, please reconsider the starting chips - I do not see many people wanting to come play a 3000 chip comp - specially omaha.

The UK circuit is short of omaha comps, it would be good if APAT put on a decent one.

10k chips please, pretty please?!?

Very valid point.  Think this needs to be looked at based on comments people are making from other tournaments.

this pains me to say but..... I agree with M3 (only joking mate) 10k would be fine with the size of field planned.
Title: Re: WCOAP - Omaha
Post by: HaworthBantam on July 22, 2008, 22:38:08 PM
There must be some kind of formula to give a general idea of length of tourney based on chips in play, blind level duration and blind structure.

Probably worth looking at some of the Regionals that took place in season two. Ok, so it"s not going to be a spot on comparison, but it could give a reasonable idea of duration.....

Agree with M3?!?! Wot ever next! lol (joke m8)

Yes 10k would be done and dusted by 12.30 am - based on my experience at Lutons £250 omaha comp.

Certainly we"ll not discount having a larger opening stack, particularly with the Omaha event.  We"re feeling our way around this and will be better positioned to finalise these details once this week is out.
Title: Re: WCOAP - Omaha
Post by: Robbiebox on July 22, 2008, 23:58:36 PM
agree with 10k stack, cant justify coming that far for a 3k jobby and I imagine a fair few will feel the same.

Omaha tourneys usually finish a bit quicker than Holdem as you get a lot more big hand clashes.

Thanks Des, excellent. If thats the case I may be able to click in late to the other events too.

also, quick question about the stud events.....

Are they being played 8 handed?

If so, shouldn"t the number be capped at a multiple of 8 (its 50 at the mo) or are you expecting the demand to be less for these events?

what time does this event start? I reckon you"ll get a load more runner if starta after 5, as you know alot us work from 9-5. 2.30pm isnt a great time to start?

is it 2.30pm is that correct????
Title: Re: WCOAP - Omaha
Post by: Jon MW on July 28, 2008, 14:22:23 PM
Yes but as a lot of people work and have to get to London for the side events they would have to take at least the afternoon off (to get to London for say 5 o clock start) and they"d have to take the following day off in case they went deep.

At least this way there"s a small chance that you could get away with playing a side event by only taking one afternoon off.

Just as an FYI

Gutshot hold a really good omaha event on tuesday evenings at 8pm, now they use a 30 min clock, and you get 5,000. Now with aroun 60 runners. They finish around 2am at the lastest. So starting at half 2, you"ll be finished in no time. So i think 5,000 minium, but 10,000 would turn it into a great event.

People love to POT, so i"m sure the money will go in!
Title: Re: WCOAP - Omaha
Post by: Jon MW on July 28, 2008, 17:22:50 PM
Is the Gutshot structure around anywhere so we can compare the blind increases to the one APAT are going to use?

That could give a good basis of comparison even if they"re only vaguely similar.

On a cautionary note though - I expect play to be tighter than normal in this one, but that"s only a guess really.
Title: Re: WCOAP - Omaha

its basically this

25/50
50/100
75/150
100/200
200/400
300/600
400/800
600/1200
800/1600
1000/2000
1500/3000
2000/4000
3000/6000
.....

Title: Re: WCOAP - Omaha
Post by: WarBwastardo on July 29, 2008, 16:27:03 PM
Why not give Simon Trumper a quick call at DTD and ask him how long an 80 runner PLO tournament should take with the various chip stacks sizes that have been proposed and then pick the largest that can be completed in the allotted time?

It"s a bit unreasonable to ask people to buy into an event without being able to give a definitive answer on stack size.
Title: Re: WCOAP - Omaha

I agree. It certainly makes no sense to have the same starting stacks for the Omaha and the Razz as the Razz is limit and Omaha is PL.
