Consonant (Y)
Vowel (E)
Consonant (S)
I have been trying to get on it for years when it started, haven"t tried for a while though...

My previous post was before it had been aired. It"s been on now.
-
I bloody forgot to watch it, so off to 4od when it"s available :)
edit: looks like it"s available now.
-
Watched it..... Done well and even got the poker a mention....
-
"Does he look like a poker player" says Nick?
"Nooooooooooooooo" shouts the whole of the APAT community at the TV screen.
WP sir.

Picking the 4 large numbers each time is a great tactic :). I expect you practiced a fair bit before the show using: 100,75,50,25 and 2 numbers 10 or below? Your opponents clearly didn"t! (thus far anyway)...

Yep, although over my run it did bite back a bit as it cost me a fair few points and I would probably have scored higher with a 1L selection overall. Love 4L though - and so many people seem to panic over it.

Really sorry I haven"t watched it but well done anyway.
When I play this I am a 4L or 6S man on the numbers. If you are good at numbers you give up so much edge when you pick 1L

How good do you run ? You come up against the only mathematics student in the country that can"t do the numbers game ;D
Very impressive stuff so far though Steve. Well done.

I figured I was done when he won the first two letters rounds, and would surely crush me in the numbers rounds. Clearly maths students don"t need to be able to do arithmetic. :D

I knew a fellow Maths teacher who went on this years ago and he completely bombed the numbers games too.

Just watching today"s now - how did you manage to play and not be distracted by Rachel"s dress? Best one so far since you started :P

Keep watching - she wears an incredible white outfit soon, and the game went out the window.

How can UNTILED not be a word? Surely you were robbed there.
You"ve been quite serious so far - could you smile a bit more on Monday please?
Anyway, most importantly - that dress: That Dress! (http://alturl.com/37yjc)
-
Is it just me or is NH a bit "off" with you? He"s barely let you say a word since game one.

tbh i found smiling and joviality difficult - I was scared witless ffs!
and yeah, I thought UNTILED was a safe 7.

If you watch countdown regularly, you"ll see that this is generally how it is with the reigning champion. The intro at the start of the challenger"s game, and the point when someone exits are pretty much the only time they get to speak.
That said, didn"t really get on with Nick - seemed a pretty stuffy bloke who liked to moan a lot off camera.

Pretty sure I read something recently which said that he is a bit of an arse, and that he and Rachel do not get on at all. It does seem a bit forced between those two (and she does seem to get the odd sly dig in at times!)
-
Haven"t watched countdown for years. I find NH really uncomfortable to watch and listen to. Just feels as if he"s going through the motions each episode, much as if he was chairing a business meeting.
-
Did you get on with Steve Bagshall? He seems like a bloke you could have a drink with, who probably has a lot of interesting tales.

He was absolutely brilliant. I came home and Katharine accused me of man love!!. His stories were amazing during the show, but that continued off set too - probably the most interesting and down to earth "celeb" I"ve ever had the pleasure of meeting.

haha, awesome :) Great to hear he"s as personable away from the cameras as he is on screen.

omg @ at your opponent not getting 348 with the following numbers:
100, 2, 3, 3, 10, 5.
I noticed you didn"t go for (what looked to me) to be the most obvious/easiest solution there, and also earlier in the show (488 with 2,8,1,10,4,100).
Is that because you tried to make a more interesting solution to please the crowd (and Rachel Riley)? Or were they genuinely the solutions you arrived at first?
-
Another question before I forget :) Is it allowable to pick 9 consonants (or 9 vowels) in your letters round? Or do the rules specifically forbid this? (could be a good tactic if you"re in the lead, and not great at the letters rounds).

Maximum of 5 of each I understand

When the number solutions were so obvious, I was just trying to be a bit clever and find a different solution for the hell of it.

Each selection has to have a minimum of 4 consonants and 3 vowels

I watched all eight shows, some very impressive performances Steve, looking forward to the finals. I"ve no idea how you managed to concentrate in such close proximity to Rachel Riley though... ;)
-
I watched all 8 too. Thought you did great, especially in the final 2 games - where you were definitely up against more skilled opponents.
Can"t believe Nick Hewer didn"t mention the fact that you are a poker player, when you"re playing against another poker player? What"s that all about?
Also, a couple of episodes before he did a lengthy spiel about swimming with no mention of your involvement in that sport?
I guess he"s fairly new to the presenting lark, so missing obvious links and being not very good are to be expected? Quite tilting to watch though because of that.
