I"m having a Home Game with 10 players...(at my new garage conversion poker Room!)
Any opinons / improvements / advice on current proposed Blind Structure
10,000 chips. 40 mins blinds. 10 players. 19.30pm start
Thank-you in anticipation...main concern is I want to avoid at all cost for as long as possible a Crap shoot....aiming for 3 /4 players left for it still to be a game of skill

Whilst I am generally not a fan of re-buy tournaments, I think they really are the best option for a home game. At least everyone can remain involved and have some fun for an hour (or however long you decide).
What happens to the guy who gets busted with set over set in the 2nd hand of the night? Does he just get up and leave?
All anyone needs to know about setting up a home game can be found at http://www.homepokertourney.com/
Advice on structures and estimating tournament length etc.

goes in the kitchen and sets up a cash game!! ;)
I did use parts of the hometourney set up...useful too...re-buys are good defo for home game but i wanted to stick with FO option..as our normal home game is re-buy..gives it all a lil edge..(and stops the bleedin chasers in the game...some dont get pot odds!!)

re-buy first hour then first out serves drinks to the table, second out becomes dealer.

so far so good on the blind structure then?....late levels avoiding crap shoot we think?

Just actualy come from a home/club game, which has loads of play in, using the levels u had, with the added ones on top. The clock that was used was 15 minutes, and we had 13 players and took 3 1/2 hrs to play and did not get crab shooty at all, possibly when 4 left, but still Av chips was more than 10BB..
For you game I would probably suggest something similar, maybe increase the clock to whatever you wish, 30 or 40 minutes..
10,000 chips on a 40 minute clock STT is very deep stack imo, and I cant see it being finished within 6/7 hours possibly, and I would go with a 20 to 30 min clock max, depending on how long you want it to last..

The home/league games that I"m involved in has a 30 min clock, 10,000 starting stack and a blind structure of
25 / 50
50 / 100
75 / 150
15 min Break
100 / 200
200 / 400
300 / 600

15 min Break
1000 / 2000
1500 / 3000
2000 / 4000
4000 / 8000
The game generally starts at 6:30 and is over between midnight and 1am, usually at the 1000/2000 level.
Oh, and we have 8 players sat at the table. As to what happens to the first person out, they generally end up dealing.

Do you deal well Ian?

seems like a good idea as you both play the " added " levels...
6/7hrs is what I was aiming for..and defo Deep stack..with the players standard not superb..I"m expecting a lil loose play that you guys would be expecting. thus maybe all over within 5 if i stick with 40mins blind..
Super advice and I thank-you for the help...creating quite a buzz down our way amongst me mates..so i didn"t want to end up with a crap shoot...

Another thing you might want to try is a double or triple chance freezeout, limited to the first 4 levels for example, depending on your clock. If you have a normal freezeout and have freak hands like AA vs KK then it can be a very early night for somebody. However, if you have a double or triple chance freezeout this can reduce these situations occuring. If people still go out early then they deserve to be dealing... ;D
Antes can be introduced to reduce the length of the game but I have found this can be a bit of a hassle, without a dedicated dealer, and many players are just not that keen on them.
There is home game I play in where, instead of having one long deepstack tourney, there are two or three shorter games and the blinds increase every so many hands. These can be fun and if people do get knocked out early, they don"t have that long to hand around for the next one.

we do normally have 2 games per night, but for this i want a "proper" freezeout, i have reduced the blinds to 30mins..did consider double freezeout, as re-buy was out of question..
how would one "do " a double freezeout and i can put it forward as a suggestion in case of freaks hands...as it would be a long night if your out early!

Don"t know what software you use to run your tourneys.
But if you pm me I will give you a link to the best one or see link
pages on my web site.
The one I use is by far the best, its a little tricky to get used to, you can use
a lot of html, costs about £10 I think.
Runs full tourny"s (from 2 up to 500+ runners)
will run leagues, do complicated points systems.
has a data base for every player that"s played
you can run stats for players or leagues
runs double chance, add ons or rebuys.
displays any information you want.
The after sales or help is second to none.
there is a forum that any question will be answered within 8 hours
usually within minutes, usually by the guy that made the software
updates are often and free, its getting better and better.
TBH if you run a home game this is a must.
Not often that I advertise some thing, but this is good.

Freezeout work in the following way usually;
Lets say for example that people start with 10K in chips. At any time they are permitted to take an extra 10K in chips without paying any more money. I would also suggest only allowing this within the first 4 or so levels, depending on the length of your clock. If players fail to take their additional chips within this time period then tough.
You will probably find that players may not go broke before taking their additional chips but it does offer a little bit of insurance against freak hands if they occur early.
Hope this helps

We play double chance freeze out.
6000 chips (3000/3000).
Start with 3000 chips (plus a white disc for the second chance).
Any player can cash this disc in for 3000 chips any time up to the break.
At the break any player still having the disc then gets their 3000 chips.
Treble chance just the same but split your chips in to 3, lets say 2000/2000/2000
than just the same as above but with 2 white discs.
For the rebuys we have £10 buy in with £10 rebuy (max 2 per player) up to
the break, Just introduced that any player that has not used up their rebuys
can have a add on at the break.
The league that I run has rebuys, but anybody having rebuys its minus points.
This helps to level out the points and make it fairer.
