#1 HOLDEM CHAMPIONSHIP

Following some issues with internet and technology in general...I have updates :)

I have spent the last hour or so at the table of Ian Thompson in the WCOAP #1 Hold'em Championship.

Not an awful lot to report, some very smooth poker, nothing too rash but a few hands of interest:

Hand 1
With blinds at 75/150, there are 2 callers from seats 5 and 9, Ian completes the small blind and the big blind checks.
First three cards are 5d 7d 7h
All four check and the turn is 8h
Ian checks, the big blind bets 425 and gets 2 callers, Ian gets out of the way.
The river is 6s and the big blind checks. There is a bet of 1000 from seat 5 which is quickly called by seat 9 and the big blind sigh folds.
Seat 5 shows As 4s for the straight and seat 9 shows Qc 8d for two pair. Seat 5 taking a nice pot.

Hand 2
Blinds are now at 200/400 with a running ante of 50 and Ian is in the big blind. There is a raise from Seat 6 to 1200. The small blind calls and Ian takes a peak and seems happy, he calls.
The dealer puts out 9s Qc 3s on the flop.
The small blind checks and Ian bets 1600. Seat 6 calls, as does the small blind.
The 6h turn got a check from the small blind and saw Ian move all in for around 5k.
Both players fairly swiftly fold and Ian shows KsQs and takes the pot.

More to follow asap now I appear to have appeased the technology gods...

#1 Hold'em Championship

Hand 3
Blinds still 200/400 and there is a raise pre flop from seat 4 to 1200.
Seat 5 calls and seat 6 makes a re raise to 3575. Seat 4 fold and seat 5 thinks on it for a moment, and calls.
The 9h 7d 7h flop gets checked by both players but the Kc on the turn brings the noise...sort of. Seat 5 checks and seat 6 moves all in for 6k and seat 6 goes deep into the tank.
After around 3 or 4 minutes of thinking, checking cards and counting the pot etc, he makes the call.
The player at risk shows AcKd and seat 6 shows 8s8c.
The river is an irrelevant Jd and seat 6 doubles up.

#1 Hold'em Championship.

Two hands later and we see a raise from seat 7 to 1600 provoke an all in from a very short stacked seat 2 for 2550.
Everyone else folds and the original raiser in seat 7 calls and quickly tables Qs Qc which brings groans from seat 2 as he flips his 5d 5s

Just to make sure, the first card on the flop is the Qd...followed by 3h Jc 2s 9d and we lose seat 2.

#1 Hold'em Championship

Big hand as I wandered over to Kev O"Hanlon"s table.

With blinds at 600/1200 with a 200 ante, it folds to Kev in the cut off.
He makes it 3500.
The button and small blind both fold, but Lee Champion, in the big blind, says "I think you"re trying to steal from me" and makes the call.
The flop is 3h 4s 2d and both check.
The Ah on the turn sees Kev move all of his chips across the line (around 25k).
He is instantly called by Lee who shows 9s 3s for the straight.
Kev shows Qc 10c and is drawing dead.
The river is the Kc and Kev is sent to the rail.

#1 Hold'em Championship

Another big hand here involving Ian Thompson this time.

Blinds are 800/1600 with 300 ante.
Ian, under the gun, pushes all in for just under 12k.

It quickly folds round to Danny Strange, in the small blind, who re raises all in and the big blind folds.

Ian shows Ah 6h and Danny has Jd Jc
8h 3c Ks 3h Js board and we see Ian Thompson busting out in 21st place.

Flop 8s 5s 6s and Catalin checks to see Andrew bet 2500 - Catalin makes the call.

10d on Turn and Catalin bets 3k only to find Andrew pushing all in for a further 11k - Catalin makes the call (and leaves himself with circa 11k behind).

Andrew A s 10c top pair and on the nut flush draw, Catalin 10s 8d on a weaker flush draw but holding 2 pair

#1 HOLDEM

The bubble burst with blinds 2000/4000(500) when Danny Strange in mid position made it 6k to go.

Lee Wyatt, next to act, moves all in for around 36k.

The button and blinds fold and it is back round to Danny who makes the call.

Danny has Ac Kd and Lee has Ah Qs

Within the first three cards, Danny"s lead is increased with 4s 7c Kh
Lee needs a miracle and gets the 6h 10h instead and is the Hold'em Championship bubble boy finishing in 13th place.

Chan Kong Ha, under the gun, raises and Luke Fuller, in the small blind and very short stacked, re raises all in and is called in the big blind by Vincent Samuel And and Chan.

The board is checked down by the two remaining active players, Vincent and Chan and on a 10 high board it is the Kh 10s of Chan that puts an end to Luke"s tournament and beat his 8c 9c sending him to the rail in 12th place.

#1 Hold'em Championship

And, we have a final table of 10.

Lee Champion moved all in from mid position and is called in the cut off by Nathan Whiteman. Danny Strange, in the big blind, goes very quiet for quite some time before saying "I didn"t really want to get into it with you two again..." and reluctantly folds.

Nathan announces "8"s" and shows 8d 8c
Lee says "I have one of your improving outs" and shows Ac 8s meaning he needs to see the Ace...

5s 10h 5d .... Nathan maintains the lead.
Js only an ace...
Kc on the river and Lee Champion exits in 11th place.

The players did a re draw for seats and have commenced final table play - good luck to them.

From WCOAP 2016 #1 NLHE

Final Table

Seat - Name
1 - Danny Strange
2 - Vincent Anderson
3 - JJ Abashei
4- Frank Adams
5 - Cornel Miu
6 - Matt Gilland
7 - Nathan Whiteman
8 - Chan Ha
9 - David Whiteman
10 - Ken Lemchi

#1 Hold'em Championship

JJ finds himself short and, in early position, moves all in.
Immediately to his left, Frank Adams makes the call with slightly less chips.
Everyone else folds and JJ has Kd Jc with Frank showing the better hand of As Qh
The first card out changes all that though - Jh followed by 8h 4d and Frank needs running cards or an ace to survive.
The turn is the 9h bringing the flush and straight draws for Frank but JJ still has the lead.
The river...Js

We lose Frank Adams from the tournament in 10th place.

Not long after that and it is Cornei Miu who announces "all in" from late position and finds a call, again, immediately to his left from Nathan Whiteman.
They go to the flop heads up, Nathan has Ah Qd and Cornei has Ad 9s and is the player at risk.

The board comes down 6s A s Qs giving Cornei some flush outs but he will need them all...
The turn of 5c and river of 10c does not improve Cornei"s hand - he is busted in 9th place.

#1 Hold'em Championship

Blinds at 3000/6000

Big hand between Danny Strange and Nathan Whiteman.

Danny raises pre flop to 25k and Nathan makes a considered call.

The first 3 cards on the board are 10s 7s Ac

Nathan checks and then calls Danny"s bet of 18k.

Nathan leads out on a 4h turn and Danny calls.

They both check the river - 6d

Nathan flips over As Js and Danny says "nice" and mucks his hand.

Next hand and Ken Lemchi, in late position, pushes all in for 24k.

And, again, is called directly to his left - Danny Strange on the button.

Ken is at risk and needs his Ks Js to be able to outplay Danny"s Ac Kc

The cards are not with Ken though - 5d Ah 2h Kd 8s

Ken finishes in 8th place.

#1 Hold'em Championship

A double up and an exit in the last half an hour or so, lots of "all in" pre flop moves getting through as the 6 remaining players continue.

Vince, in the small blind, looks at one card and moves all in. JJ, in the big blind, calls instantly and shows Ac Kc
Vince shows the Jh he had looked at and discovers the other card is 4h
JJ is at risk but ahead as we go to the flop:
Ks 7h 10s
JJ increases his lead.
10c on the turn leaves Vince drawing dead and the Qs river is more a formality.

JJ gets the double.

Next hand and it is David Whiteman"s turn to move all his chips across the line from under the gun.
It folds quickly round to Matt Gilland in the big blind who calls even quicker and very speedily turns over his Ac As
David sighs and looks despondent as he shows Qc Qh
David is at risk and needing help.
8c Kh 4h Ah gives David the flush draw...
But the Qd on the river isn"t good enough and he leaves the tournament in 7th place.

A hand or two later and JJ pushes from early position and is called by Nathan.

Nathan quickly shows 7s 7c and JJ takes a moment or two to reveal his Qd Qh ...

The board is safe and dry for JJ, the at risk player in this hand:
10s Ad 10c 5d Jd
He doubles up.

The last hand before the break and we will come back in fifteen minutes with five players remaining as Vincent busts in 6th place.
He pushed all in with Ac 10c and was called by Chan Kong Ha holding 5s 5c.
Vincent is the player at risk and needs help to keep his tournament journey alive.

The cards are dealt - 3c 2h Jh Jd 3h
Vincent does not improve and finishes in 6th place.

#1 Hold'em Championship

Almost immediately after the break and we are 4 handed!

Matt Gilland, on the button, makes it 22k to go and gets two callers in Chan Kong Ha and Nathan Whiteman.

We get Qc 5s 2c and Nathan moves all in. Chan goes all in over the top and Matt gets out of the way.
Chan has pocket 2" and has a set. Nathan has 3d 4s for the up and down straight draw.

The turn and river do not help Nathan out and he departs in 5th place for £465.

4th place will receive £620 but no medal...

#1 Hold'em Championship

JJ, under the gun, raises to 27k.
Matt, in the small blind, folds.
Chan, in the big blind, announces "all in".
Danny gets out of the way and JJ moves the rest of his chips forward to indicate a call.

They turn their cards over and JJ has Ac Ks while Chan is behind with As Qc
They are so close in chip stacks...

On the flop, Chan"s shouts for a queen are fully ignored and we see 7h Kd 10s - increasing JJ"s lead but giving Chan outs for the straight to take the lead...
The 5h on the turn is not any help to Chan and it all comes down to the river card.
But Chan"s tournament is over as the 8s falls and he is out in 4th place for £620.

We get to 6-handed and we have a 3-way all in:

Jay Harwood (at risk) Ad 9s

Andrew Marshall (at risk) Ah Qs

Board runs out 5d Jd 9h 7d Kc and we lose both Jay Harwood (5th) and Andrew Marshall (6th)

There is not a lot to report from the final 3 here. No-one is a "short stack", although JJ is clear chip leader...

As I typed that, there was action!

Matt, first to act in the small blind, raised it up to 33k. Danny made it 81k and Matt said "all in".
Danny made the call and turned Jc Js
Matt shows Ah Kh and is the player at risk and behind.

The flop turns that around though - 4c  Kd 3h and Matt takes a clear lead and is hoping to hold for the double up.
Danny shouting for a Jack but is not heard, 2s on the turn.
Still no luck with the 7s and Matt takes the double up.

Matt ever adding to his stack -
He makes it 25k to go, from the button, pre flop and gets called by JJ in the big blind.

The flop is 2s 3d Ah
JJ bets 25k and is called by Matt.
The turn is the 2s
JJ bets 35k and is, again, called.
The river is the 5c which brings much chuntering and chatting from JJ who then cuts out 95k from his stack and pushes it across.

Matt calls and shows Ac 4d
JJ begins a rant about the 5 being the card he didn"t want to see...but either way, he mucks and Matt takes the pot with the straight.

No sooner had I posted that, we have an all in and a call.

Danny makes a raise pre flop, Matt re raises and Danny announces all in.
Matt makes the call and shows As 10s
Danny, at risk, shows Kd Qc

First three cards make little impact - 2c Jd 5d and Matt keeps the lead
The turn doesn"t intensify the sweat and Matt is happy with the 6s

The river... Qd and Danny takes the lead and the double up.

Matt still in pretty good shape though.

Danny just bet over 130k on a Qh high board but was forced to fold when Matt raised "all in" over the top...Danny is now marginally short stacked.

#1 Hold'em Championship

Matt has around 600k, JJ has around 200k and Danny has the rest.

Danny raises pre flop. JJ folds and Matt re raises.
Danny pushes all in and Matt calls.
Danny - Ac Jh
Matt - Ad Qh

"Jack" Danny says, but the flop keeps the lead with Matt - 9s 5h 9d and Danny is at risk.
"Jack" Danny calls, 3s on the turn.
"Jack!" he shouts...

Jc

We are still 3 handed and the stacks go some way to evening out.

#2  8-Game

There has been a big hand just before the 8-Game players went on a break.

Adi won a lot of chips from Simon Taylor in Stud Hi with trip sixes, Simon having nut flush and straight draws, along with AA in the hole, but ending with only two pair AA55x.

Adi had won 40k just before that from Gianluca, and is now on 300k. Simon is down to 135k.

#2  8-Game

A very similar hand occurred on the other table at the same time, with Don"s 666xx beating Dann"s flush and straight draws.

Dann was chip-leader for a long stretch of this tournament, alternating with Dai, but is now down to about 200k, which is still a very healthy stack. Don is on about 250k.

#1 Hold'em Championship

Matt has the button and folds. Danny, in the small blind, calls and JJ checks.

The flop Kd 6d Qc

Danny checks, JJ bets 25, Danny re raises to 60k and JJ has made the call before Danny"s chips are in the pot!

The 8d on the turn sees Danny announce "all i..." and before he could finish his sentence, JJ responds with "call" and turns his Jd 4d for the flush.
Danny sighs and tables his Qs Qh for the set. He needs the last queen or the board to pair in order to win the hand...

Jh and Danny loses around 240k but he is still in.

JJ increases his stack and now has a fair chip lead.

#2 8-Game

There"s just been a massive hand between Kevin and Dai in Stud. Kevin had KK behind and made two pair, but Dai had rolled-up sixes. By the end, there was 200k in the pot.

Dai is back up over 300k and Kevin has about 50k left.

#1 Hold'em Championship

Three hands later, Matt folds the button, Danny completes the small blind.

JJ pushes in enough 25k chips to cover Danny and he looks down at his stack and says "Let"s go then" and pushes his chips in.

The cards go over:
Danny - Ad 5s
JJ - Ah Qh
Danny is behind and at risk.

The board comes 9s Jh Js 4c 7d

No real sweat and we lose Danny in 3rd place.

He takes home £1015 and an APAT Bronze Medal. Well played, Danny.

And another huge hand, again won by Dai, this time in Stud Hi-Lo.

With a massive pot in the middle, Dai bet on seventh street and Alex folded. Dai showed just the low and is now up to 545k.

#2  8-Game

Chris and Kevin both get their chips in, with differing outcomes.

First Chris gets in against Dai, and is eliminated in 11th place. Next hand, Kevin is all-in but gets a double-up from Alex.

We have 10 players left, one place off the ranking points.

And Dai has won yet another very big pot, this time against Alex.

With the board showing  4c  5h 6c 7c, Alex folds and Dai shows  Ac 8d for the made straight and nut flush draw.

"Of course you have that - just give him the bracelet now", says Dann.

Dai is now up to 750k.

With the Flop showing Jh Kh Qc, Alex moved all-in and Dann was forced to fold.

Alex  Ah 5h, with the nut flush draw.

Don Roberts is shortest now with less than 50k.

With that, Don gets all-in pre-flop against Dai in PLO.

Don  A s 10s Js Qd
Dai  Ac Kh Qh 8c

The board comes out  3s  Kc 6h 4s ad1

And Don finishes in 9th place.

Simon moves to the other table. We are now playing hand-for-hand for the final table - with the tables playing different games! One table is on 2-7 Triple Draw and the other has one hand left of PLO, and will then also be on 2-7.

#2  8-Game

Chris loses a big hand to Dann in 2-7 with an 8 low and has only 35k left.

Next hand, he raises and Alex puts him all-in. After the three draws, Chris shows  2d 5h 6d 7s Qs, a very good starting hand missing on every draw. Alex looked pained throughout the hand as he also kept missing, but he ended up with
10d 8c 7h 6d 5h, his ten-low winning the hand and eliminating Chris in 8th place.

Nice work Lucy, Tom & John.

1 down, a few more to go :)

If they can maintain that standard over the next 9 days they will deserve a medal themselves.

PS - I was serious about the pictures of the updaters, all of them (except Tom and John).
