There is no such thing as Delta anymore, there is only Visa Debit, Visa Electron and Maestro (and wikipedia tells me there is going to a Mastercard debit launched next year).

This doesn"t help with the immediate question, but I did point this out previously yet the payment processor is still persisting with incorrect terminology.

Logically the Visa Delta option should be the one that Visa Debit works on but that doesn"t mean that it will work.

I believe that the credit card option was removed due to escalating costs for both APAT and the players as the transaction was being treated as a cash advance.

I may be wrong and Des will probably give me a slap for being so stupid.

Do you know anyone with a debit card you could use and ship them the cash ?

I don"t think that it will require a rush job as there should be seats available for a while.  Famous last words, I know.

You just said "visa" lord2300, if you meant visa credit rather than visa debit then you can go by what Chipaccrual just said and ignore my rant.

Good on APAT for removing it say I. Its standard practice for the credit card issuers even if you are on an interest free period with your credit card, to charge gambling/gaming transactions (any betting related deposits) at a higher rate of interest which need to be paid back with in the first 56-59 days.

Best not to use a credit card. All amounts paid to poker sites or for entry into tournaments are treated as "cash transactions". Not only do you pay a very large interest rate on this transaction there are also other ways the bank extracts money from us.

For example:

I paid for an event back in March and have been paying my credit card bill in full at the end of every month. It wasn"t until I really looked into my statements this month that I realised I have been paying "interest" on a "cash transaction" since March.

The credit card companies always take any payments received against "purchases" first and then deduct from the "cash transaction". Even though I paid off in full the amount owing on my statement at the end of every month, because I had made recent "purchases" that were not yet on the statement, the money I paid was taken against the recent purchases and not the "cash transaction". Thereby the "cash transaction" or part of it is still outstanding every month and the bank can take more and more money from you.

I have worked it out and in total I think the £75 entry fee has cost me £10 or more in interest.

This month I am making no purchases on this card and I am ensuring that the account has a nil balance.....

so........... beware of the credit card "cash transaction" trap!

A very good point Linda, and very well explained. That answers a query that I have with my credit card, thanks.

It"s true that normally paying with a credit card is better because it gives you the free insurance to cover you.

But because of the cash advance fee they charge on gambling payments it actually becomes very expensive insurance so I don"t think it"s worth it for that.
