Title: Mixed PLO / Hold'Em Game (Stanley Casino, Glasgow, Sept 08)
Post by: CrizzyConnor on September 09, 2008, 07:45:56 AM
THREAD MOVED FROM HERE (http://www.apat.com/forum/index.php?topic=1959.0)

after watchin the wsop pl omaha championship i have been trying my hand at a few low limit PL Omaha STT games recently (just to learn the game) and have to say i have been quite enjoying it. winning 2 out of 3 might give me an early biased opinion tho. does make a change from holdem. wish i had given the championship one a go last night now.  8)

Would you be up for playing a PLO SnG or small cash game (£0.10/.20) or something along those lines if it could be arranged? My mate Gordon says the Stanley lets you use it"s tables for no charge provided they"re not being used in the tournaments and you take your own chips...

I quite fancy getting a game of PLO in the casino environment sometime soon and could probs rustle up a few (5 or 6) players...

Could play something like a £0.10/0.20 cash game with £10 min/£20 max buy in and do a NLHE/PLO mix - switch game every round type of thing...

i would def be up for that if u can get something organised. dont think any of my buddies play omaha but i will check and see. Grant (santino) would prob be up for it whether he plays omaha or not, if its low stakes. keep me posted ;D

So just remind me............having 4Qs as your hole cards is superb but AAKK double suited is absolute gash  ;)

Sounds like a plan then.

That"s 5 of us from on here already...

I"ll speak to a few of my mates and get another 4 or 5 people on board before the end of the week so there"s 9 or 10 of us for a game then find out the script with the Stanley and organise it for maybe sometime next week.

We could either play it as £5 SnG"s (one of Omaha/one of NLHE) or play a cash game and switch game every round - I thought that"d be better because if limits were low (£0.10/£0.20) could buy in for a £10 then another £10 if ye lost the first one and nobody"s sitting out waiting for the next game to start. We"ll take a vote and see what the majority prefer, lol...

I"ll get a few names down in next few days, enquire at the Stanley and go from there.

Yeah it"s easy to get your money in anyway if you really want to, people seem to think because it"s Pot Limit that you have to make a Pot-sized bet everytime you have a hand so pots can go quite big sometimes, lol. Pots also go big because you"ve got people chasing double draws and stuff like that.

I like it because you can control the size of the pot a lot of the time so if you"ve got a decent hand but not sure where you are you can normally get to the end of a hand with a decent pot but without having to commit all your chips.

I"ve kinda hi-jacked this thread... maybe I should"ve made a new thread for this or something, lol :D - If we make this a regular occurence i"ll make a thread to arrange things in future... They should maybe have a home game / local game meetup thread on the live events part of the forum where people can look for or advertise local games - just a thought.

I"ll post updates on here once I find out the script at the Stanley and get a few more names down. I might pop up to Stanley tonight to find out and have a punt on the £5 rebuy... in fact, i"d probably be as well buying a bingo card or lottery ticket. I had the words "Rebuy!" & "Chips!" ringing in my ears for days after last week...

That"s typical in the Merchant, it"s what I was saying to Grant earlier - you gotta either put up with the bad players but have decent table banter and a friendly bunch of folk for the most part @ Merchant or go to Stanley with better quality of players but absolutely BORING as anything game with no atmosphere (unless you"re on a table with a mate)...

If we can get this game together then I think it"ll be decent... I just need to make sure it"s defo free to use the Stanley tables but i"m pretty sure it is as long as you take up your own chips & cards.

Post by: CrizzyConnor on September 12, 2008, 04:34:39 AM
Right, checked with Stanley on Wed night and was told it"s cool to go in and use a table for free as long as it"s not being used as part of the tourney...

Only thing we need to do is provide the players & our own chips...

Was talking it over with my mate Gordon and he said it might be a good idea to use the casino"s chips from the gaming floor as our chips and play £0.25/£0.25 (the smallest chip they"ve got) - it would mean that we"d have the chips provided for us as we"d just buy them from the floor (couple of 25p, 50p and £1 chips) and would also mean that nobody would have to be in charge of the money and rebuys, plus chips wouldn"t need to be held back for rebuys (if we"re playing cash game that is)... £0.25/£0.25 would still give 40 BBs for £10 buy in and 80 BBs for £20 buy in so would be a decent fairly deepstacked game.

If we"re playing SNGs as opposed to a cash game we could just play with our own chips and blinds/clock at whatever... only downside is the possibility of players sitting out for a bit once knocked out.

Anyway on the player front we"ve got a 9 handed player list sorted:

Myself
Billy "BillyHo10"
Kenny "THEGUY84"
Grant "Santino67"
"ForthThistle" (sorry don"t know your name)

Plus a few you might know from the Merchant:

Gordon Casey
Alec Wong
Michael (forget his second name, Gordon"s mate)
... plus one of my mates you won"t know

Only thing we need to do now is decide on a day to play and sort that out...

I think a good day (if it suited you all) might be a Sunday as we can start basically anytime we want as card room opens at 2pm for their afternoon game, so we could play anytime from then onwards (maybe 5 or 6pm) and still get an early night. Gordon can"t play and neither can I this Sunday but could arrange it for next Sunday if you are all ok with that day...

Let us know your thoughts...

Oh aye and so you know - the Stanley has got a 1p (Yes, ONE PENCE) buy-in tournament (+ £2 registration) in the first week of October - £1,000 added prize pool - decent way to make money for nothing!

well just back from this cash game and it was a lot of fun. it was actually my first live cash game. There was 8 players and we decided to play 25/25 blinds with a round of NL holdem followed by a round of PL omaha (even though a few of the guys had never played omaha before  :P). there was plenty of raising and lots of outdrawing but all in good fun.

the big winner was Martin, who organises the poker tournies at the Merchant, he finished in the region of +£100. I personally finished -£10 but after 4 hours poker i def feel i got my moneys worth.

Looking forward to doin it again real soon, although im sure there is a few of the guys that would rather play the omaha as a SnG till they get the hang of it. 8)

i dont think the vegas "big game" have anything to worry bout quite yet ;D
Title: Re: Mixed PLO / Hold'Em Game (Stanley Casino, Glasgow, Sept 08)
Post by: CrizzyConnor on September 22, 2008, 17:26:32 PM
Yeah I ended up being £40 in the red but enjoyed it, every hand I lost I was ahead in before ending up behind so not much I coulda done... the set over set I lost to Martin was a sickener though:

My KK77 double suited vs 9924 (if I remember correctly)

793 Rainbow flop... somehow got it all in on the flop - ouch :"(

Martin was priced in to call though so can"t blame him - I blame all of you who acted before him and called my pre-flop raise! lol  :D

Yeah next time might be best to play the Omaha as sit & go and stick to Hold "em for the cash games - the Omaha pots got ridiclous in size towards the end, all in good fun though!

I think I"m going to play the Stanley"s Sunday deep stack tourny (£30 buy in, 15k starting chips, 2pm start) but I could be up for doing this - or maybe leave it until the following Sunday & give more time to organise some players?

was gonna say no to this cos i was skint but *brag alert* i chopped it up 3 ways at the merchant last night for £160 last so if there is enough bodies im in. otherwise next sunday is fine (prob preferable actually).  8)

I was going to go down to the Merchant too last night but fell asleep and never woke up until 5am this morning, lol. Yeah let"s give it a miss until next Sunday and it"ll give us time to get players together again. NLHE cash and, erm, PLO SnGs? Haha. I don"t wanna end up losing all my money again in PLO Bad Beats...  :D

Could start the game as PLO SnGs and as players get knocked out of that they can move to another table for Cash NLHE or something. Or maybe simpler keeping it all cash but only making it one PLO round for every two NLHE rounds or something... In fact maybe just keep it as it was and i"ll just need to get better at PLO!   :P

I"m working on Friday night so going to go down the Merchant game then and go to Stanley deepstack on Sunday... If any of you are about you should try the Stanley Sunday game... Starts at 2pm, 15k Starting stack, think it"s half hour clock and been getting over 60 runners the last two weeks! Finishes up at about 8 or 9pm latest.

I"m not sure if I can afford it this week. Well technically I could provided I only needed two buy ins but that"s not completely guarenteed when the PLO kicks in, lol.

I"d be up for playing the £30 tournament they run on Sundays there though (15k Starting chips) then a £5 PLO SnG or two afterwards? Would mean I only had a guarenteed outlay of £40 or so instead of a possible endless pit... lol.

The Sunday game they run is getting 70 runners on average, 2pm start and 15k starting chips so plenty of play but also pretty big prizepool and half-decent standard of play compared to Merchant.

Hi Guys,

I have not read all the posts here, (first page then skipped to last). If anyone is interested I believe there is going to be a plo rebuy (£10) mtt at the circus in Edinburgh late november. Guy that runs office poker through there is trying to set this up.

Cheers.

Sound s Good Chris....

I thinke we will have a good field on Sunday.. Well No"s anyway  :D

see you there.

PS. Dont you be stealing them blinds,,,

And if enough of the TGM boys go along there might be at least a slightly reasonable atmosphere. Just don"t knock out one of the old boys or there"ll be subtitles needed for the cursing you get  :D

Big night on Saturday and even bigger hangover on Sunday, sorry never made it down - who all went in the end and did anybody manage to cash? Was it a decent game?
