Just thought i would share my first experience of these games.
They are SnG games where the stake is split into 5 and you play 4 games simultaneously against the same 5 or 8 opponents each worth 1/4 the pot and
the last 1/5 of the pot goes to the overall winner.
I"m not one to multi-table SnGs as i like to see the game develop and get a read of my opponents (ok i admit i cant handle too much goin on :)) but with these you are guaranteed that your opponents are also playing 4 games (at least at the start) and that levelled it right back.
As i play at the lower stakes i"m unlikely to run into some internet poker whizz whose regular idea of fun is 12 tabling. So this could be a way to keep my ROI where it is but increase my games played and hence see the bankroll surge. :o
Thoughts ?

I"m thinking that 4 lots of 1/4 plus 1/5 is more than 1, or am I missing something ???

Quite correct all 1/5

can you enter more then 1 at once?
-
just had a couple of goes at these. I started with a six-handed game and didn"t have a clue what was happening (no change there then) and have decided that four six-handed tables at once is too much for me (I finished unplaced on each table). I then tried nine-handed and managed a 1st,2nd and 3rd for an overall win. I"ve no idea yet whether I"ll give it another go; I suspect I"ll just return to it occasionally for a bit of fun.

this will be my next project (after the 100 DoNs).
they sound great and are a chance to build up a good profile on opponents
-
So if you play a $10 sng, you are playing 4x$2 plus 1 overall winner?
I normally play 4 $10 at the same time, so if I play in this it would cost me $50+5
Will give this ago tonight

If you are using Poker Tracker 3
I ended up playing 3 of these and knew i was in profit. So i went to check my profit on them in pt3 (beta 18) and it must have barfed on the data as it only recorded 1 table from each set of 4 as a tournament (haven"t checked the hands within the tournament yet) so pt3 might not be the place to build a profile. And who knows how long an update might be. Maybe a manual import after completetion may work but you lose the hud.

Yep
The initial stake is split into 5. 1/5 for each table and 1/5 for the "Matrix" overall classification (all paying 1st, 2nd - and 3rd if 9 player game).
You would need to go up somewhere round the $50+$5 level

Played in on of these last night
I found that most of the players was playing as if it was a FT of a MTT, trying to ladder up the pay structure but for points instead. Unfortunately I had some bad beats and only manage one 3rd
When I normally play 4 games, I start them 10 minutes apart. With them all starting at the same time it can get abit manic.
Aggression seems to be the way to go.

These could potentially be a good money spinner if you can suss the tactics for them quickly.
What is the point scoring for placing/knockouts?
Will try a few of these tonight I think. Defo play full ring to start but 6 seaters could be the place to make money if you can play quick enough vs those who can"t.
What levels have people played at? i.e. if you normally play $10 would you play a $40 matrix?

I dont really know the answer to this. BUT, If I normally play 3 tables at $10 then I"ll be trying $30 matrix.
I"m thinking, given that the prize is split in 5ths then maybe $50 matrix, but that just seems a lot at one time so $30 it is. Gonna try this next week. I"m getting a bit of a backlog for my blog......must update!

Ok, played 2 of these matrix games last night and they will be my last 2.
I initially went the route of playing for as many matrix points as possible.
First was a full ring turbo and playing for knockouts only placed in 1 of 4 but had so many knockouts I was 1st in the matrix and made a small loss.
Why did i go for the matrix points when the prize is only 1/5 of the total? God knows so a change of strategy.
2nd was full ring non turbo and played for cashes and highest possible finishes, cashed in 3 with no wins or knockouts and no matrix bonus and made a small loss.
In summary, can"t really see any upside to these as you are basically dilluting the prizepool on your 4 stts with the matrix part and the (too high) knockout points skew the rewards of solid play.
IMO might help v good STT players as people make more mistakes than a standard STT going for knockouts but can"t be arsed to find a winning strategy on these whilst gaining/losing $1 on each game.
-
I just cant see where the +EV is in playing these. For starters some of the prize fund gets siphoned off for the overall winner -EV. Say you get bad beats in 2 of the STT"s, and get donked out early, that affects the overall result for all 4, again -EV.
Am I missing something here, or is there really no value and it"s just a flash in the pan marketing gig which once the intial curiosity factor dies down will die along with it? :-\

Its certainly looking that way, from the comments on here. I think it would be better if there was no "overall winner" and the prize pool was split 4 ways.
Whilst this is clearly just the same as just playing 4 STTs, the concept of being up against the same players in 4 concurrent games is surely something that could be used to your advantage

That is true but you also get the disadvantage of no stagerring either, so if you get to the final 5 players in all 4, you are at a disadvantage to anyone else who is not and 4 hu matches at a time would be pretty tricky too.

looks like the matrix project is over before it started
