Some views from an enthusiastic amateur on the proposals for APAT season 2......
Regional Events
The regions seem a little unbalanced. On the assumption that each venue will attract the full 80 players to each event (not sure how likely this is). To win the Southern Regional Championship you would have to beat, at least, 319 other players... whereas to win in the Eastern or Western Region you only have to beat 159 players.
How about moving Plymouth into the Western Region (from Southern), and adding another venue to the Eastern Region (perhaps Gt Yarmouth or Stoke)? Making 3 venues in each region.
I"m sure I"m not the only one who will have a long way to travel to one of these events (Walsall 80 miles, Luton 75 miles, Vic 70 miles)... I think a slightly higher buy-in, perhaps £35 - £40 with 3.5k - 4k chips, would make it a better tournament... a bit more "play" and more worthwhile return for those that make the money.
How is it envisaged that the prize money will be split for these events?

I"m not too fussed about the regional implications - although I can"t see anything wrong with your argument per se.
But as I"m going to have to pay train fare for all of these I"m happy for the price to remain lower because if there was more play I"d also almost certainly have to pay for hotel accommodation as well. I know this runs slightly contrary to having the opportunity of playing the best poker but I have to take into account expense as well.

I think there are going to be a lot of teething difficulties with the regional tournaments.
I guess this is why there is the need for regional administrators to help ensure that things run as smoothly as possible and as fairly as possible for all members.
The formation of the regions is an obvious issue, especially for those on the edges of any region who are going to struggle to get to any of the events, or are going to have to decide to not play in these.
I"m not sure if the events are going to be over-subscribed or if they"re going to be short of numbers. It could be that they are short/over-subscribed to start with, and then towards the end of the season the numbers increase or even drop (as the regulars continue to go but others lose interest). It"s the same as the first APAT season - no one really knew what sort of numbers would be interested in the events.
I"m in the Eastern region, and better off than many - as I"m about an equal distance from DTD and Walsall. I can imagine people on the east cost of East Anglia are going to struggle though. I expect there"s a similar situation in all regions.
Still, whatever the problems it"s going to mean a decent regular tournament for many - and better than a lot of what is currently available.

I think Kinboshi has made some very good points about the eastern region. I live in Norwich and the regional events just aren"t close enough to make it financially viable for me to take part. The european event being held in Luton is a huge bonus, but otherwise its quicker and cheaper for me to catch a plane to Scotland or Ireland for a national event than to drive to a regional tourney. Having said that, there are no suitable venues in Norfolk to hold even a regional contest so its just something I"ll have to put up with.
All things considered, I think the announcements about season 2 represent a huge step forward and I hope that as many people as possible should support each and every competition.
