Club Captain

I"m delighted to be announcing that I have appointed Chris "CrizzyConnor (http://www.apat.com/forum/index.php?topic=1420.0)" O"Connor Captain of Glasgow Club.

A keen APATer and regular on our Online Tourneys (when he can get his PC to play ball), Chris also plays in the live poker scene in and around Glasgow.

Welcome Captain Chris.

Are you not probably most qualified to be the Club Captain Neil seeing as you"re already a mod, you"ve had some great results in the past, oh and you"ve also had some mighty training from the one and only Annette_15 ...

If not then i"d be up for it, i"m on here basically every day anyway.

No matter who the Captain is, i"m pretty sure that we"re going to take it down anyway...  ;)  8)

Thanks Chris,

Ideally I"d like to appoint 10 Captains from players like yourself who are regulars on the Forum, who would get a buzz out of being more involved in APAT and who can put the word out amongst players who are not yet APATers.

And, just so you"re under no illusion, I"m still crap!! ;)

And just so you"re under no false illusion, I"m still crap!! ;)

I"d rather be crap and have your results than be absolutely amazing (like myself) and have my results :P hahaha. Well i"d like to put myself forward formally then for consideration... I"m on the forums all the time, spread the word about APAT all the time and have already got 3 or 4 definite new players from the Glasgow area who are going to be on board for Season 3.

Can"t wait for the new Season! I"m planning on playing every $10 online event, most of the $75 online events (bankroll permitting) and as many of the live events as I can satty or clickfest into!!!

Looking forward to this very much. Neil says if we win he will treat the glasgow members to a night out at the Riverboat followed by seventh heaven and legs & co  ;) ;) ;) :D

I"ve heard of the Riverboat ... and I"m guessing these other "establishments" are the kinds of places you end up when you go out of the Riverboat tourneys early ... ??

Post by: CrizzyConnor on December 30, 2008, 12:43:46 PM
I believe this "Legs & Co" you speak of has changed it"s name to "Forbidden" or something along those lines and moved two doors down from it"s former home into the old Fury Murrays building... Just a rumour I heard though, obviously don"t know from personal experience.

I was just looking at the points for this league
if I finished 5th when Glasgow have 10 players at the FT I wouldnt count for club points but do i still score individual points within the club?

is the maximum a club can score 60 points?
if so what number are we going for?

cheers

Only the top 4 scoring players from each club will receive points, for example if there were 5 of you in FT only the top 4 scoring players from your club"s points will be counted.

The maximum any club can score is, if they are in the top 4 finishing positions, then they would receive 9pts for 1st, 8pts for 2nd, 7pts for 3rd and 6 points for 4th, so a total of 30 points.

The League points are then decided for that round by taking the top 3 scoring clubs for that round and allocating them National League points for the League Leaders Board as below:

Quote
Club scores will be totalled at the end of each round, and the club in the highest scoring position will receive 3 National League points, with second receiving 2 National League points and third receiving 1 National League point.

Being from Edinburgh n all that and a feisty Scot, still  :D at the 10 players at FT, the Edinburgh Club are after ya hehe

Your going to have to pull off some Davie vs Goliath type heroics to have any chance against the might of Glasgow, you shoulda stuck with us and you could"ve had a GUKPT seat next year (or at least a share of my winnings  ;D) but each to their own, lol, jk.

Oh and Sparky you"ll just have to look out for names on the list here at your tables, i"m pretty sure Blue Square wont have it highlighted... Essentially playing as individuals and hoping we don"t put each other out... or you could ask in chatbox before kick off.

Unlucky kenny think it was 13 outs you had  :( on another day who knows.

Hand that got me was my Broadway getting rivered by a flush (hadn"t used slide bar before and didn"t raise enough so no blame on caller) then got nothing for a while and pushed with Ah 9h and ran into As Ad lol

Definitely.  It sounds like we didn"t get too much luck in the first round and are due some tonight.  I went out 27th when my  qd qh all in on a J high flop lost to a five outer from J4 when a 4 came on the turn!

Title: Re: Glasgow Poker Club - General Discussion
Post by: Santino67 on February 15, 2009, 11:06:46 AM
Not a bad beat story Neil just one of those things that poker throws at you. That was 2 weeks ago and this is a new game so all have level playing field again. TBH was first time I"d used BSq and losing to flush was my own fault as I didn"t use slide bar properly to raise enough on turn to scare flush draw off. I won"t make same mistake again tonight.

Think that"s about a fiver I owe now  :D
Title: Re: Glasgow Poker Club - General Discussion
Post by: Morethanluck on February 15, 2009, 11:32:23 AM
LOL!  Happy to contribute my 50p.  I"ve attached a pound coin so I can have "one in the tin" for later.
It almost cost me more than 50p two weeks ago as my laptop  nearly went flying across the room.
If it hadn"t been for the structure I would probably have played QQ slightly differently, but I wanted a call pre-flop rather than just stealing the blinds in which case J4 would probably not have called (still a questionable call OOP anyway at that stage).  I"m hoping there have been some changes to the structure as it became a bit of a crap shoot after the break.

I was still in - out 16th.  Reraised cut off limp (1,200) to 7,200 with 7 2!  Unfortunately he called with JT and hit 2 tens.  Then all in with 396 chips and quadrupleded up, but lost next hand with A6 when K2 hit 2 pair!
Card dead for ages and couldn"t get in first.

The new structure in the Merchant is A LOT better than it used to be. I went last week and i"m pretty sure it"s:

- 24 minute levels for 1st 5 levels + option of ONE rebuy if you bust in this period.
- 15 min break.
- 20 min levels played down until final table
- 5 min break
- Final Table
- 1st place  ;D  well not for me but it should"ve been.

Don"t play it as a rebuy though, it"s only one optional rebuy which only like 30% of people will take so play it as a freezeout and go with one buy in and let the dead money juice up the prizepool FTW. Easy peasy.

I dread to think what the PLO games are like. Part of me wants to go to take advantage of people who don"t know what they"re doing. Then the other part of me knows I"m going to make a great semi-bluff only to miss my 16 outs on the river and get knocked out by some guy who"s played his QQxx to the death thinking he"s good, which he is but that"s not the point, he"s still getting a slap :D

I suspect that the AOL / TalkTalk problems (assuming they still haven"t fully resolved it) had some bearing on the numbers of players. Other than that, dunno. It was a 25% drop for North last night with 86 for the first two legs and 64 for leg 3.

Those "drunken ramblings" were from the Sky Poker Event in Newcastle BTW. I was getting text updates on the tourney itself (for a short time anyway ;) ) then on the straddle-tastic PL Hold"Em game that followed.

Title: Re: Glasgow Poker Club - General Discussion
Post by: Zanshin on March 08, 2009, 18:48:54 PM

Please expand??? where were u playing derek??

I was playing at the Sky Poker event at Asper's in Newcastle.... ok a quick summary... well I'll try to make it quick ;-)

Tournament was well run as usual and by the 1st break I was doing well at my table and hoping not to be moved.

A couple of levels after the 1st break all was good... has around 21K with next largest stack at the table being about 11k and everyone else very short and I'd pretty much had licence to steal whatever blinds and antes I wanted.

Then... (ye I know there is always a then... followed by a BB story... well this is only sort of)... so anyway - then I called Mr 11k's min raise PF while I was in the BB with 69s the flop comes Q64 rainbow.... I check he bets a couple of thousand... I have the feeling he's weak and push all in.... he insta calls... Oh... feck. Now at Sky events there is usually a delay when there is an all in and call as they call Tikay over with his microphone to commentate on the hand (he did a lot of running around in this tourney ) while we are waiting another player next to me asks if I've just had my hand caught in the cookie jar and I say it certainly looks that way.
So Tikay comes over and starts his commentary then asks for the hands to be turned over... I show my paired 6 and he flips over his..... AK.... !!!! wow

River K.... not so wow any more.

I then manage my usual tilt and go out in another 4 hands. One all in push from the SB with 9 10 called by the BB's pocket Jacks. Then miss a hand before going all in blind on the next two hands and running into JJ (again) and AK.

I've not been too bad with tilt for a while now but I just didn't handle this one well.

Anyway I say goodbye to the table (my tilting may cause bad play but I like to think I'm always polite at the table) and head for the bar.

More drink... more food .... and now off to the cash table to play a 1 / 2 PL hold'em game (strange it's PL but that's apparently what they play there).

So sit down with £200 and fid the game is a straddle / double straddle / and so on fest....

Fairly quickly get up to around £550 then lose a monster £700+ pot.... now this is not a BB story just a bad play story which I'll keep short   ;)

Involved in a pot with 9s10s and a board of 7d9c10c..... there's a bet and a call then I bet around £140 and there is an all in re-raise followed by a 2nd all in move... back to me...

At this point I realise my mistake and that I'm definably behind one of these hands but it's only £87 more to me and the pot is well over £600... oh well I call and the hands are flipped over.

I was not behind one hand I was behind both... and not how I expected... one player had 6 8 for the flopped straight with no flush draw and the other had 8 J for the higher straight and also no flush draw.... weird. Anyway the upshot was that I lost the hand which actually ended up being a split pot on the river.

So back to tilt again and within the next 30mins I lose everything I had sat down with.

Not wanting to tempt myself with what money I had left I head off to Tiger Tiger for another few pints and to watch the Newcastle nightlife go by.

So drove back this morning and journey home:

Was getting hungry so pulled over at Gretna for something to eat and when leaving got pulled over by the Police for speeding... another £60 loss for the weekend and 3 points to go with it.....   ::)

Oh and to make matters worse I couldn't avoid a little rabbit that was sitting in the middle of the road and heard the dull thump as it hit the underside of the car.... I hate that... if it had only just stayed still I think it would have been ok.....  :(

So there's the quick summary..... I don't post much cause I ramble on too long..........  :-[

Sorry I"ve not been playing for the last month and a half (or thereabouts) - been weighed down with work and Uni, not really been spending time on poker at all other than the odd live game, not even logged onto APAT in 6 weeks until now. Wont be playing this weekends game as I"m away to Rome on Saturday until Tuesday night but will be in the games after that. Good luck to anyone playing this weekend...  :)

Last night was my first in the Poker League and I must say it was bit of an ordeal. Only 46 runners ,(poor turn out by my teammates) and although I exited in 16th place, it took 3hrs to get there !!. Talk about keeping the cards close to the chest !!. I never seen the end result, but I would hazard a guess that it ran for at least 4 - 5 hrs. Is this the norm ? What happens if there is 80 runners ? , is it a 2 day event ?.

Is it possible that the time it takes to complete, relative to the runners, is a factor in poor turnouts ?

does anyone else have a view on this ?
