the way i see it is that in lower stakes games, opponents seem to play their cards and have made their decision what to do before they are even to act and dont even take into account position or stack sizes
1 tip i heard (from jesus ferguson i heard it 1st i think) is never to look at your cards until you are to act then you can make an informed decision - but that is pretty hard to do in online play
i find the lower buy ins are mostly bad for these kind of plays and seen some crazy calls
example
live casino tourney at the weekend i took part in - £30 buy in
player A is UTG , player B is BB -full 10 players
player A raises to 4 BB and everyone folds then player A shows ACE 4 suited - then player B berates him for a while calling him a donkey yet player A claims that any ace is a good opening hand and a discussion starts about who is the better player and what are good opening hands - the players also seem to like showing there hands when they win a pot uncontested (found this even more amusing and silently pegged them both as donkeys) in most hands they played in - i was silent but most of the table openly decided player A is not as good as player A - felt this was a bit out of order and said so (DONT TAP THE TANK ;D) and that they can play any style they like
orbit or so later and player A is SB and player B is button and both are big stacks
player B limps and A raises and player B re raises - player A insta goes all in and B insta calls
cards over and player B (button) has ACE 6 suited and SB has kings
flop A6A - turn is a rag and the kings are drawing dead
now - the table start saying that infact player B must be a donkey to call the re-re raise with a weak hand as A6 but B claimed that he was trying to play the man and and not the cards - and even though i agreed with them i said i could see where he was coming from - he believed that he was playing position and that player A was just stealing
but to call the all in with ace 6 was just stupid i said (i"d have maybe called the original raise with A6 in position but defo not re-raised and seen a flop but didnt say out loud)

At lower levels you can be successful playing pretty much ABC poker. In fact, it can be -EV to try sophisticated plays, complex bluffs, or worry too much about your image, etc. at the lowest levels.
Against better opponents, you have to mix up your game, consider the "metagame", expect your opponents (well some of them) to be playing a more intelligent game (rather than just looking at the cards they"ve got).
Or you can play against me, and you"ll win using any approach.

A "post it note" covering your cards would help you here.
In the dim and distant past, when I used to play regularly on line, I would always play the same way, whether it was a 20p, £2 or a £20 buy in. AND, I would never criticise another players actions - the last thing any of us wants to do is educate folk we"re playing against at the online tables.

gotta lovve poker, its all about the wrong move right time, especially regarding that hand!
To be honest, i"ll only give credit where credit is due regarding table talk.
Poker is soo popular these days that I reckon there"s gotta be diff breads of donkeys, you could always enter these things trying to pin the tale on the donkey, which verbally only the donkeys are prolly doing anyway.
But Its prolly more productive to go in the opposite direction and let them carry out their mid game analysis and come to a collective conclusion whilst you try to find reasons to identify the solid players and keep them to yourself! Subsequently pointing out the donkeys anyway depending on the donkratio

Is this something the APAT dealers offer in live games? thats some serious upper class dealing.

i was playing the london virgin tournament and this guy would just push all in on any ace, and no he wasnt short stacked...
finally got caught out though when he ran into ak with his ace rag!
agree with daniel here, abc poker is generally the way to go, because generally it will be good enough. there is no point pre-flop raising with rubbish because you WILL get called by at least 2 or 3 players!

what is abc poker ? ;D
