Title: Black Country Poker Club, this seems like the right place!
Post by: clynd99 on January 22, 2009, 21:39:53 PM
I think all members of the Walsall Regional team, should be aware of our club, a monthly league held in the area between recreational players.
I was thinking we could keep updates and such here, close to those who will be using it and where new players may become interested.
For more details get in touch with either Brian BOINGBLITZ or anyone of us who bang on about the monthly bad beats and sick folds.

Now, questions for our leader!

Brian, well done on the Vegas trip win, when will you be going and will it co-incide with any BCPC nights?
Did ou make note of my payment for next month seeing as I"m not going to be there for the Feb game?
Can you copy our league table up on here for referral please?
Do we have to agree before the final round of games which tourney we are playing to win entry for, or is it down to the eventual winner?

Thanks!

Well done Chris.....excellent idea to put the League stuff in this spot.
I should tell you that I have e-mailed ALL new Walsall signings about our club and so far we have FOUR players who have said they will be there for week one of season two in May ! (plus a few interested parties from the Brummie mob !)

Now for your questions.....

1. The Vegas trip is currently scheduled from June 27 to July 11 but this wont be confirmed until the WSOP dates are confirmed.
My plan for next season anyway is to sit down at the end-of-season AGM in April and ask everyone if they know of any dates that they cannot make for the following season and then, if possible, we will miss those dates out. One of the "new signings" is away for what would be one of our regular dates so I will try and work around that one fo instance.

2. Yes, I have noted your payment for last month.

3. As for the tourney that the eventual winner will play in, that will be the GCBPT event unless the winner wishes to play in an alternative event. If he does then 75% of the members have to agree to change it as he is playing for them too.
There is a GUKPT event in this seasons summer series that has a £550 buy-in and is at Walsall on June 27th. Now to me, this sounds like a perfect event to enter as it is local and takes place on a Saturday. THAT though, is down to the winner.

4. LEAGUE TABLE (After week 3)

                                        PLD  1ST  2ND  3RD  PTS
1. BRIAN YATES                      3     1      1     0     31
2. STEVE REDFERN                  3     1      0     1     31
3. TONY TRIPPIER                   3     0      1     1     30
4. CHRIS BAKER                      3     0      1     1     28
5. PAUL FOY                          3     1      0     0     25
6. DARREN HOOPER                 3     0      0     0     15
7. JAMES RASMUSSEN             2     0      0     0     10
8. MARCEL FURET                   3     0      0     0     10
9. MATT McKINLAY                 2     0      0     0      9
10.PAUL MELIA                       3     0     0      0      7

Damn it"s tight at the top!

I"m not going to be there for week 4, but after week 5 am I right in thinking that it will only be everyones top 4 finishes that count towards their league standings?

I can see us all standing around after week 5"s game figuring out exactly how the final game has to finish for each of us to win!
Title: Re: Black Country Poker Club, this seems like the right place!
Post by: BOINGBLITZ on January 27, 2009, 15:09:15 PM
you are correct Chris......only best 4 finishes to count for placings, though in the event of a tie, ALL placings count for tie-breaker purposes.

Just to let you know guys, that through posting on here and e-mailing interested parties, we now have another SEVEN players who look likely to be joining us for the start of Season Two in May. If they all do then that will give us enough to give a GCBPT entry to the top TWO players.
Looks like the BCPC is here to stay.

Post by: clynd99 on January 28, 2009, 18:31:04 PM
What about more seats and different events?

Obv we"d go for a GCBPT event for first place £550 buy in, but the DTD monthly £300 with £50k gtd, and £150 with £10k gtd, have just made European ranking status. Not that thats much to scream about but paying a 1 2 3 in this way seems like a good idea to me, and it would get BCPC players out there a bit more.

I"d also be up for scheduling other meets to have a single play off for other events, if enough of us can get together and agree on it, with the same share rules as the league season. For example I know Walsall occassionally throw out some random £200 buy-in events, so if ten of us could get together we could play a £20 game.

I know that Stoke used to throw out some decent deep-stack events, and thats only up the road, haven"t checked for ages though.
Title: Re: Black Country Poker Club, this seems like the right place!
Post by: clynd99 on January 28, 2009, 18:33:05 PM
The above would also give new players or current players mates or whatever the chance to check it out without comminting to a whole season, and still get a stake in the winner on that night.

Excellent idea!!!!  Biggie for 1st, then slightly lower for 2nd and 3rd (and 4th?) - spot on.

Re individual satellite - would be more than happy, but if only one seat up for grabs, the winner takes all makes it a tough game, that might have more interest if it"s a double buy in - half for the sit and go, and half for the sat..... ie one off night for £40 - 10x£20 to make up a seat, and and 10x£20 to make up a prize pool.   Perhaps schedule 1 of these prior to the start of the next season as a "get to know you" for any new players.
Title: Re: Black Country Poker Club, this seems like the right place!
Post by: clynd99 on January 28, 2009, 19:43:52 PM
I think maybe £40 would be too high a buy-in for most casual players, but maybe dropping a fiver on top to pay second place cash would be an idea.

Im thinking I know a couple of guys who might be up for a game, but wouldn"t play a season due to other commitments. £40 would be too much for them to pay for what is essentially a bit of a laugh.

It"s great to have guys like you as members of this club because you are obviously committed to moving things forward.
The AGM for Season Two is scheuled for the April meet so we will have to make sure that we are ALL there early at about 7pm so we can finalise our plans for the following campaign.
I think that it is safe to say that we are going to be playing on two tables on most weeks during Season Two with all the new guys coming in and from my point of view, the more the merrier.
The idea about the DTD events sounds good and also, on June 27th, there is a GUKPT event at Walsall with a £550 buy-in as part of the Summer Specials that they are putting on at a reduced price.
My original idea for this club was to provide a place for people to play good quality poker and to give us the chance of playing in a big event with little outlay. It is pretty obvious that, thanks to you guys, it is becoming a roaring success.

Now......if I can just find a sponsor to pay me into the WSOP Main Event.......

Looks like season one may have to be the Walsall GUKPT summer event...

Incidentally I have arranged that if we wanted to play satellites to other events, such as the DTD £150 for example, we could play them online at Blue Square under password protected tournaments.
This would be a decent thing for us if we could get a decent number of us to agree on times and such, as it wouldn"t rely on us all being able to get over to our meeting place, and other potential menbers could have a bash without having to commit to a whole season, or just play for a bit of fun and the share at the end.

Hiya guys,

Firstly, thanks to the efforts and contacts of Chris Baker, we are in a position to run a satellite online at BLUE SQUARE next week which will be EXCLUSIVE to you guys, that is members of the Black Country Poker Club and those who have expressed an interest in joining us.
The buy-in will be dependent on how many of you are willing to enter but the prize on offer will be a seat in the £165 side-event taking place on Sunday 22nd February at the Walsall leg of the GUKPT. This is a 2-day event with 6000 stating chips and 45 minute blinds.
Normal club rules will apply in that the winner of the satellite will be representing our club at this event and therefore any money won will be split 50-50 between him and the other club members, but on this occasion, only those members who actually enter this satellite.
This will hopefully be the first of many of these EXCLUSIVE BCPC events that we will run.
The satellite will be password protected and I need you to let me know as soon as possible if you intend to enter so that we can get it sorted for you, so please.....E-MAIL BACK NOW !!

Onto live business and as we have such phenomenal interest and a multitude of ideas flowing from our members for Season Two, we are going to have an AGM Tourney on FRIDAY APRIL 24TH at the NEW TALBOT, WEST BROMWICH in which I would hope that ALL of you guys will be attending. The AGM will take place at 7pm where we will decide on dates for the new season and discuss any changes that we will want to see made.
Once that is sorted, we will run a £15 buy-in tourney with the normal 5000 starting chips with £10 re-buys allowed in the first 2 levels if you go below 2500 chips (no add-on's). This should allow us enough prize money to award the winner a £220 seat in the Walsall monthly tournament on the following night, with the 2nd place finisher receiving the balance of the cash.
Season Two will then kick-off on FRIDAY MAY 8TH unless otherwise decided at the AGM.

With the GCBPT now deceased, the winner of Season One will now receive a £550 seat in the GUKPT Summer Series, which has 10k starting chips and a 45-minute clock. This is a 2-day event and he may chose to play either at Bolton (June 13th) or Walsall (June 27th).

Before I go, I would like to say many congratulations to BCPC members Steve Redfern, for winning the first week's APAT Online game, Matt McKinlay, for his $3k win online, and........well......me, for winning my trip to Vegas. Anyone who has seen us play will realise that if we can do it, ANYONE CAN !!

Good Luck boys,

Brian.

We"re going to have to get a rough estimate on numbers as quick as possible really, so that Blue Sq can set up the tourney.
The only considerations should be that if you play in the online game, you must be available to play at Walsall Grosvenor on Sunday 22nd February, and possibly the 23rd if you get through to day 2.
I will find out if, as sponsors of the GUKPT, Blue Sq can register the winner for the tourney.
It looks like, with current exchange rate, that if ten of us want to play, it will be a $25 tourney with one seat for the winner.

OK guys,
To all current and prospective new members, you should have all received an e-mail outlining the above tourney.
This will now take place on WEDNESDAY FEBRUARY 11TH at 8.00PM and will have a buy-in of $25 with hopefully 3000 stating chips and 15-minute levels. It will be played on BlueSquare. The winner will be pre-registered into the £165 GUKPT side-event at Walsall on Sunday February 22nd/23rd, which has a 6000 starting stack with 45 minute levels. The runner-up will take the balance of cash.
The winner may be required to wear BlueSquare clothing but remember when entering that this is a Black Country Poker Club event and therefore the club rules apply in that any winnings made at the live GUKPT event will be split 50-50 with all of the players entering the satellite.
Normally, winnings would be split with ALL club members but as this satellite has been devised as a "welcome" to new members, we have changed that rule on this occasion as a one-off.
This event will be password-protected and everyone who replies to me that they will be entering will receive the password as soon as we are notified of it by BlueSquare.
Current players confirmed are as follows :-
STEVE REDFERN
MATT McKINLAY
BRIAN YATES
CHRIS BAKER
PAUL FOY
with newcomers

DANIEL HEYWOOD
CHRIS HUMPHREYS
RICHARD DAVIS
ANDREW BARTON.

MARCEL FURET and TONY TRIPPIER are possibles as is Matt's wife (apologies here as Matt refers to you as "The Mrs !" )

To anyone I have not named, you need to reply to me to confirm participation or you will not receive the password. When you do receive it, PLEASE do NOT pass it on to anyone else as this is a BCPC event as previously stated.

If this satellite works successfully, then hopefully we will run many more throughout Season Two and many thanks to Chris Baker for his drive on this.
And before I go, don"t forget that Week Four of season one will be played on FRIDAY FEBRUARY 13TH at the NEW TALBOT, WEST BROMWICH where we will be welcoming back Matt from his globetrotting around the World, Steve, the latest APAT Superstar and also a new face in Malcolm Howell, who cannot wait for Season Two and has decided to sign up now as an Assosciate Member immediately.

 BOING BOING !!

LOL, I think the guy from Blue Sq liked the idea, so much so that he"s running loads of 10 man satellites along these lines with winner taking 50%of any subsequent winnings, 2nd taking 10% and 3rd-10th each getting 5%!

Should have got the copyright on the idea!

Thanx to the 13 members who took part in last night"s exclusive GUKPT satellite on Blue Square and congratulations to Tony Trippier who won a £165 entry to the NLHE freezeout on Sunday 22nd February at Walsall.
Commiserations to the rest but remember that all those who took part have just over 4% of Tony in that tournament.

Tomorrow (13th) will be Round Four of our Season One and for the first time it looks as if we will have two tables in action as we may well have FOUR new members playing for the first time.
Also, we will have the press in attendance as the Express & Star are running an article on our club. Onwards and upwards !!
 Be lucky.

LEAGUE WEEK FOUR

Week Four kicked off a little late after we had a visit from the Local press to take a few photos and do a little piece on our little club......so everyone keep an eye on the "Express and Dingle" in the forthcoming few days.
For the first time we began play on two tables after 3 new players signed up for the rest of the season.....Maxine McKinlay, Ant Williams and Malcolm Howell....welcome to you all guys.
Table two was shorter with just 5 players and included our newly-crowned APAT UK Champion Steve Redfern and our online Satellite winner from last Wednesday night Tony Trippier and of course, nobody wanted to be the first player out. Unfortunately, Tony became "The One" with him being left short-stacked after losing a big pot and claiming "I thought we had 10k in starting chips !"
So just after the start of Level Three we went to a single table with Matt McKinlay the (very) big-stack until he saw his A-A cracked by Darren Hooper"s J-J.
We then had Q-Q lose to J-J and Q-Q to 7-7 and it seemed that you needed the worst hand to win a pot until Brian Yates called Matt's UTG all-in raise on a 7-4-2 board and his 10-10 held against Matt's fives.
This put Matt in big trouble and pretty soon he was eliminated in 10th place, prompting a few comments about wife Maxine being able to beat Matt's League total having only joined the League tonight !
The next elimination was a long time coming as the chip-lead changed about 5 times but Week 3 winner Paul Foy went out 9th followed by the 3 newbies in Malcolm(8th), Maxine (7th) and Ant(6th).
Champ Steve Redfern was still nursing a relatively short-stack but after starting the day level on points with League Leader Brian Yates, he knew the longer he stayed in, the better for him.
5th place finisher turned out to be Darren Hooper before Steve was finally eliminated by Brian in a massive hand for League implications, giving him 8 points.
That left Brian with a guarranteed 10 points for 3rd place but his 2 opponents were situated in 8th and last places in the League before tonight and both Marcel Furet and Paul Melia really upped their games for this one.
Marcel eliminated Brian in 3rd place when Brian refused to fold a King for a 3rd successive hand and his K-8 lost to Marcel"s A-4 and Marcel then went on to record his first victory, eliminating the impressive Paul Melia in 2nd.

That leaves the League after week 4 standing as follows :-

POS                                        PLD 1ST 2ND 3RD WORST PTS
1.   BRIAN YATES                       4    1     1     1      7       41
2.   STEVE REDFERN                   4    1     0     1      5       39
3.   TONY TRIPPIER                    4    0     1     1      11     30
4.   CHRIS BAKER                       3    0     1     1      -       28
5.   PAUL FOY                           4    1     0     0      9       27
6.   MARCEL FURET                    4    1     0     0      10      25
7.   DARREN HOOPER                  4    0     0     0      8       21
8.   PAUL MELIA                        4    0     1     0      9       19

9.   MATT McKINLAY                  3    0     0     0       -      10
10.  JAMES RASMUSSEN              2    0     0     0       -      10
11.  ANTHONY WILLIAMS             1    0     0     0       -       5
12.  MAXINE McKINLAY                1   0     0      0      -        4
13.  MALCOLM HOWELL               1    0     0      0       -       3

With us now having reached week 4, the League will change somewhat as only your best 4 results count in the Final Standings. Therefore, for those players who have played 4 games, I have listed their worst place finish, which is now the place that they have to better in the final 2 games in order to score ANY more points.

The players situated 9th and below cannot now win Season one, even with 2 first-place finishes, while both Paul and Darren need 2 top-two finishes to remain in the hunt.

It"s all to play for on March 13th when we return to The Talbot for a triple-chance freezeout.

Excellent write up Bri - and congratz for outlasting to stay at the top (for now).  Also congratz to Marcel and Paul - both played a great game to get to HU.

Was nice to start on two tables - hope this becomes the norm.

I would like to ask that Ant is officially banned from dealing, seeing as the very first hand he dealt was my exit hand!!  I knew I should have carried on myself, although having dealt myself into the short stack with QQv77 hand, I clearly wasn"t much better.

Brian Yates for dealer - the best dealer in the club IMO (well, "twas he that dealt in week one when I won...)

AND OUR CLUB JUST CONTINUES TO GROW.......

The Express and Star did a terrific piece on the BCPC in their edition on Tuesday February 17th and as a result of that, I was contacted by Radio WM and Chris and myself (and possibly Matt) will be doing a live interview on that station at around 11.40 am this morning (Weds 18th).

Do we want to start thinking about another online satellite?
We can run them any time really and if anyone has any ideas about what tourneys we could sat to post them here.
A few suggestions would be:
DTD £150 at the start of March
£200 at the Empire March Poker Festival in London
£100 Bounty Tourney at Walsall March 1st
£100 Deepstack at Blackpool G casino (this happens last Saturday of every month).

Hi,

I"m interested in joining your club. I live in Great Malvern so it"s a bit of a drive away but the action around here is rubbish so it"d be nice to find some decent games and you seem to be well organised. I also like the idea of the online qualifiers for big tourneys.

I have a few questions:

How often do you play?
What night do you usually play?
When is the next league due to start?

Cheers guys,

Andy

The BCPC will have 7 current members and 3 prospective members lining up in Cardiff in April. Is everyone stopping overnight and if so where ?
Also, anyone interested in car-sharing for the trip down ?
Obviously, this depends on who is stopping and who isn"t so let me know if you could please guys.
Also, to the following prospective new members....

MARK WHITLEY
DANIEL HEYWOOD
CHRIS HUMPHREYS
DAVE ALLEN
WILL YOUNG
ADAM MYATT
CLIVE PADDEN
ANDREW BARTON

You all said that you were intent on joining the BCPC for Season 2....is this still the case ?
If so, could you please reply to the e-mails that I sent you regarding our AGM night and the next online satellite as I have not received one as yet and am beginning to think that I am sending them to the wrong addresses !!.

I"ve also signed up for Cardiff Brian. Don"t know where i"m going to be stopping yet, hoping to find somewhere cheap and cheerful as all i really need is a bed for the night. Well, hopefully i won"t be out early and in bed by 6!

BCPC WEEK FIVE

Week five of the BCPC Season One took place on Friday March 13th with 11 members playing on 2 tables. This was a triple-chance freezeout with 6k total in chips and would be the only tourney to have more than 5k this Season.
Darren Hooper became the first casualty in level 3 so we were then down to a single table and he was soon followed by Paul Melia, who couldn"t follow up his impressive second place gained in Week Four as he ran
qh  jh
into Steve Redfern"s
kc  jc
after getting low-stacked.

Paul"s conqueror heads-up in week 4 was Marcel Furet, who has been performing well recently online for Walsall in the APAT National League. This time though it was an early exit when he pushed his final 2k into the middle with
kc  ts
on a
kh  4d  9h
flop, only to see Chris Baker turn over
9d  9c.

Tony Trippier had produced a disappointing performance in Week 4 and needed a good showing in this one to make up an 11-point defecit on League Leader Brian Yates but it was not to be as he ran
ac  qh
into Matt McKinlay"s
:as:  kh
on a king-high flop to exit in 8th place.

Matt was soon to get lucky though when he was all-in against his better half Maxine as he held
:as:  tc
but was dismayed to see
ah  ks.
But a board of
:2c:  :3c:  6c  8h  7c
gave Matt a fortunate flush and a few hands later he eliminated Max with
:as:  js against  ah  8d .

Paul Foy gave himself a real chance in the League this season when he won week two but that chance ended when he pushed all-in with
kh 4d
only to see a delighted Steve table
:as:  kd .
Cheers went up when the
4s
hit the flop but a cruel
ac
on the river saw Paul out in 6th place.

Steve, 2 points adrift of Brian in the League standings, was now looking strong and was delighted when  Matt's
tc  td
held up against Brian"s
qh  js
to send him out in 5th place that saw him score just 2 points.

A 2nd place finish for Steve would see him go back to the top of the tree for the first time since week one while Chris Baker knew that a win would do the same for him. Chris somehow contrived to whittle away his big chip-lead and it was somehow inevitable that he and Steve would clash and that moment came when Chris pushed with
kd  9d .
Steve needed a big hand to call him......and found
ah  ad
to be big enough !
Exit a gutted Chris in 4th spot now needing a lot of help to become Champion.

Steve was now the favourite but after losing a race with
5h  5s against  :as:  9c ,
he then was finally seen off by Matt as his monsterous
6c  5c
held up against Steve"s
4s  :2h: !!

The 2 points gained were not enough to take him top though, so it will be all to play for in the Final week of the season for Steve.

That left the heads-Up between Matt McKinlay and......well......it"s Malcolm Howell. Malcolm had nursed a micro-stack for long periods, didn"t knock anyone out on the way, but here he was in the last two and in only his 2nd game as a club-member, he saw off Matt after about 30 minutes of play with his
kd  js
beating Matt's dominated   kc  4s.

That leaves the table after week 5 looking like this :-

POS                                      PLD  PTS
1    BRIAN YATES                     5     43
2    STEVE REDFERN                 5     43
3    CHRIS BAKER                     4     36
4    TONY TRIPPIER                  5     33

5    PAUL FOY                         5     30
6    MARCEL FURET                  5     26
7    MATT McKINLAY                4     22
8    DARREN HOOPER                5     21
9    PAUL MELIA                      5     19
10   MALCOLM HOWELL              2     18
11   MAXINE McKINLAY              2      8
12   ANTHONY WILLIAMS           1      5
(Only your best 4 scores count)

That means that for Tony or Chris to win the Title, they have to WIN in week 6 and Steve cannot finish 2nd OR Brian finish 4th or better.

Steve will win it if he finishes 3rd providing Brian finishes below 4th and Chris or Tony don"t win it. 2nd place wins it if Brian isn"t first while a win would take the maths out of the equation altogether !

Brian will be Champion if Steve fails to make the top 3 and neither Tony or Chris win it. If Brian finishes 4th Steve MUST finish above him. If Tony, Chris or Steve don"t make at least the top 3, then Brian will be Champion anyway, irrespective of where he finishes.

It looks all set for an exciting finish to a tremendous first season for the BCPC.

 Roll on April 3rd !!
