Title: Alea / Gala Casino
Post by: nosey-p on February 16, 2009, 10:16:04 AM
Off to the Alea casino this Friday (20th) if anybody would like to join me or if you are already going, come and say hello. If you don't know who I am, I will be standing next to a Scottish man with a big grin on his face, rabbating on how he came 3rd at Walsall  :)

Not sure Wayne. I can"t seem to shake off a cold that I have, and I"m not so sure that folk at the tables would appreciate me coughing and sneezing all night.

I"ll see how I feel later this week.

If it"s going to be a bit of a Leeds team social as well as playing, I could come along and not play.

Thinking of going to a different casino this Friday. Can anybody recommend one?

I think Gala is dealer dealt but can not find what tournaments they have on a Friday

According to Facebook Gala has this on a Friday:

FRI £20 Re-buy. Unlimited re-buys for 90 mins
2000 point stack Blinds 25-50
GUARANTEED PRIZE £2500

Don't like re-buys myself so we will stick to Alea
Does anybody else fancy a meet up this Friday?
Dean, you play regularly in Leeds? Which has got the best structure for about a £40/£50 buy-in?

copy n pasted from elsewhere, Gala Leeds.
140 runners done in the day should be fun.
Saturday 25th April    5 pm. Start

£20 + one re-buy

£2000 ADDED PRIZE MONEY

5000 point stack

blinds start 25-50

20 minute clock

140 seats available

Following the success of our10th anniversary tournament which had this format we have decided to make this a regular feature of our schedule. The last Saturday in every month will have a £20 tournament with £2000 added to the pot by the casino.

The last one we did, we sold all 120 seats plus 9 alternates. The prize money was £7160.

This time we are doing 140 seats, so the pot should be nearer £8000 this time.

Seats are on sale now at the casino cash desk. If you want to play in this tournament I would advise booking early as seats are selling fast.

Are all the games dealer dealt at Gala? If Alea and Gala have smaller buy-ins and structure then Gala will win. I am off to Alea this Friday so will check out there schedule

gala games are dealer dealt but poorly run imo.

new alea schedule is from 1st April, but won"t be there Friday as Wakefield Trinity are at home

will be an emotional game & we tend to play well against saints so could get a good result!

oh and i found out last night when i turned up at alea and around 5 people were in the whole casino! so then had to run to other side of leeds (massive trek!) to make it to gala where they had 60 runners!

was going quite well till i pushed a10 into aces!

So which is the better card room Alea or Gala and why?

ok this is a difficult one.

For playing experience, quality of cardroom etc it is Alea. I would prefer that this card room get all the runners, but it struggles.

However you have to go where the money is and most comps are fuller at Gala due to guarantees they give and their promise to have dealers (even though most of them aren"t very good). The organisation and quality of the cardroom at Gala is not very good (there is no tourney clock) but the value is there.

i don"t play live as often anymore and am restricted to weekends, so i just go to the comps i can make. Gala tilts me a bit but it has the value at the moment; the cash games at either venue are pretty juicy as well (if you play cash).

it may also depend what night you want to play and what they have on.

Post by: nosey-p on April 30, 2009, 17:12:22 PM
So even with the new events (since 1st April) Alea or still short on runners? I have not played at Gala, yet but it looks like Alea will soon stop poker tournaments unless it can pull its finger out.
I would normally play on a Friday (the only night I can get away from the Mrs) but I hate re-buys. The game at Alea is now unlimited re-buys so was looking at playing somewhere ells

i play DTD occasionally and yes it will be early hours if you final table. i haven"t played much lately in Leeds but last couple of times i have played Alea then there have been less than 20 runners.#

I guess if you don"t like rebuys then Fridays are a bit of a problem

Can the ones that play at the Gala, keep a lookout for any Sat's that may be running for the British Masters in June and post on here please (cost, starting chips, blind levels, re-buy). Looking for something around the £50 mark. Not really bothered about re-buy but if that's all they have going, then maybe.

im going to be looking out for these too. i think in all honesty they will be mostly rebuys (they may do sit n go"s for £50, winner go through) i always tend to think more rebuys more chance of a seat!

Post by: deanp27 on August 12, 2009, 15:35:40 PM
The next £100 freeze out will have a guaranteed prize of £5000. Our usual requirement of a minimum of 16 players for the guarantee will apply.

There will be a 30 minute clock on this game. 10,000 point stack

The blind structure is as follows

Blinds -Running Antes

Level 1 25-50

Level 2 50-100

Level 3 100-200

Level 4 150-300

Level 5 150-300- 25

Level 6 200-400- 25

Level 7 300-600 -50

Level 8 400-800 -75

Level 9 500-1000 -100

Level 10 600-1200 -100

Level 11 800-1600 -150

Level 12 1000-2000 -200

Level 13 1500-3000- 300

Level 14 2000-4000 -400

Level 15 3000-6000 -600

Level 16 4000-8000 -800

Level 17 5000-10000 -1000

its not my favourite Leeds Casino but seems decent for a 1 night comp - they are expecting to meet the gtee so 50+ runners maybe. First time they have gtee"d it so not really sure though.

ok i think that the gala has £20 double chance (so £40 basically) and gets a few runners, but not played Friday in a while.

Alea has £20 bounty freezeout Fridays - i have heard numbers are improving

In other news Alea has spring festival with added monies and £100/£250 comps + rebuys omaha etc on 6-10 May (see Alea website for details)

Coral British Masters is coming to Gala in either June or July with sats in May, main event £500 buy-in
