Title: Glasgow Live Poker
Post by: CrizzyConnor on March 24, 2009, 02:08:43 AM

Unlucky guys. How are you all doing Chrissy? Anyone been to the bingo recently? I hear the format"s changing again at beginning of April but I went to Stanley Mint yesterday for first time since we booked that table. What a difference in the play.

Been to the Gala twice in last two weeks. Never cashed either night but had good games. Getting a lot more play with the new structures and they"re pretty perfect in my opinion - I hope it"s just the buy-ins and not the actual structures they are changing. I hear they"re bringing back two £10 games a week because all the £10 bingo players have stopped turning up as much and the games are only getting 35-45 players a night as oppossed to full capacity (66) - I personally prefer the way it is just now but oh well...

You going anytime soon Grant? I might go towards the end of the week one night.

I"m looking for something to do this Friday night as the wife"s at a works night out then working on Saturday.

The £40 / 10k starting stack at Merchant sounds pretty good to me. You playing anything this Friday Crizzy?

I don"t think i"ll be able to play this weekend. Funds are a bit tight until payday which is the following week. If you"re free another Friday in the next few weeks and fancy arranging a night though I"m up for a game at the Merchant, if we can get a group of us down should be a good"n... I"m sure there"ll be at least 30 regular runners plus however many of us show up. With 10k stack and decent blind structure I"m sure there"ll be a lot more play than at the Alea.

If you"re up for it guys I"m going to the Mint again next Sunday for the £30 deepstrack game. Did a 3 way split and got £460 last week. Was a better atmosphere than I remember used to be at the Mint. Last game I played at Gala there were only 3 tables  :o and started with only 60BBs at first level, not condusive for a good game. Think changing it again in April is def a good idea.

Sorry I missed the online league game tonight, was working earlier and didn"t register in time.

Cheers

I was the same, got home two hours late  :-[

What"s the Mint sunday game like these days? Even though you started with a lot of chips it used to get a bit crapshooty with stilll around 4 or 5 tables left (when they were starting with 9 tables) which isn"t ideal. The Merchant are starting a new game on Saturday evenings at 7pm - £30 = Double Chance (8,000 + 8,000 in reserve) seems like it could be a good game...

I enjoyed it mate, but always helps when you cash. I feel the 14k chips and low levels helped early on to be more patient than you"re allowed at Merchant. 63 started so wasn"t too bad later on, again it helped that I got well over 100k at FT and then got lucky twice against pocket aces against short stacks, once raising IP with A10 (hit straight ) and also raising with 55 (hit flush)  :D . That got me up to the 200k mark so was very comfortable once we got to the money (Top 6). I did get down to about 12BBs at one point with 3 tables left but still was able to be fairly patient to build my stack up again coz of less steep blind structure. Def gonna go this Sunday again.

Anyone else up for it?

I played the Riverboat"s £30 "Deepstack" on Friday - 10k chips + 20k in reserve but the blinds start at 100/200 and blinds are fast so doesn"t really feel like a deepstack at all. I ended up chopping 5 ways for £270 at 4:30am :o - I had my pocket Kings cracked twice in the space of four hands on the final table but I did get lucky once when my Pocket 6"s cracked Pocket Aces. Was a decent game overall and had around 40 players... good Friday alternative to playing £60 at the Alea.

I"m not sure of the full Riverboat schedule but will post up soon,
will also post new Merchant schedule when I find it out...

Well done Chrissy, decent nights work. I bubbled 7th at Mint on Sunday, blinds 6/12k had 75 left & went all in with Jacks (hate them even more now  :D ) called by 6"s, 6 on river. That"s poker! Won an online $5 tourney on BF Wednesday night with 70 runners so got $150 for that and only entered it for something to do coz i was bored  ;D

Let me know what the Merchant new structure is whenever you find out. Off to Lake District for Easter week so catch up when I get back. Good luck in meantime mate.

Heres the new gala layout since i cant see anyone has updated it.

Monday 20.30  £20 + £2  Freeze Out
Tuesday 20.30 £25 + £3 Freeze Out (Poker League)
Wednesday 20.30 £10 + £1 "Beginner' night" Freeze Out
Thursday 20.30 £20 + £2 Freeze Out
Friday  20.30 £20 + £2 Freeze Out Plus
Saturday 19.00 £30 + £3 Double Chance
Sunday 15.00 £10 + £1  1 Rebuy + 1 Add-on

The Sat night game is a cracking game played it first time saturday there and sadly went out 9th :( stupid A Q against aces.

We did a deal 6 way.

it was 2:30am and i had 28K chips and the blinds were 4K/8K and a 1K ante.

The chip leader who had 55% of the chips took 40%.

I was happy with my £100

We should try and have a APAT Live Glasgow Day/Night.

Let the last longer bets commence

I agree with you on that one about the £10 bingo players , I used to play thee alot , cashed about 28 times in 6 months so i did really well there . But now i have found a new thing going around that i wanted to tell you and others about . I played at a pub in the merchant city that has poker every tuesday nite , they run an in house league , the league fees are £5 which all of it goes into a kitty , the person running it says that players are paying £10 on the nite where the 5 of it goes in the kitty and the other 5 times how many players are in it goes to the top 2 at a 60%-40% split . last session they had over £1400.00 in the kitty that the top 8 players with the most points at the end of the 12 week runnin sit down and final table it where the top 3 get paid at a 50%-30%-20% payout . Not bad for just a in house pub league . All there stats are posted on line for players to check at any time , they are beginning the next session i think in 2 weeks . I will be goin to this one definately , i heard there are alot of internet players that go there and the banter is awsome . If you would like info on it , let me know and Ill tell ya the Bars name and address . Cheers !

For those of us who are off tomorrow (Monday) afternoon there"s a £25 game at Cincinnatti Club in Bridge St at 4pm (just up from subway). Some of you will know John & his son from Gala or Mint and he"s told me there should be a good turnout. Time will probably suit more people. When you all going to Merchant next, I"ll try to join you all.

I can"t do this Saturday, 30th May is the APAT National in Dublin (I don"t know how many Scots are going), and 13th June is the $50 APAT Scottish Online National. Other than those, I don"t think I"ve anything planned.

Cheers Neil, seem to be doing ok recently. Only played live 4 times in past 6 weeks, cashed twice (£460 from another split), bubbled once (jacks lost to sixes) and out mid position when AK on ace high flop and pocket queens took me on, they hit their flush draw. More importantly I"m happy with way I"m playing. Still think I"d swap it all for place at Dublin  :"(

23rd no good for me as I"m off to Newcastle to see The Blue Man Group. On a happier note, did a 4 way chop at Cincinnatti Club on Monday for £525. Was a great tourney, 5k starting chips + 1 re-buy and 1 10k add-on, low starting level and 30 mins clock. Ended up 10 hours but unusually no slug fest at end for a change. Made a couple of good lay downs, couple of good calls and had couple of good pieces of luck as well.

I might have seen you mate - I popped in around 7pm (just as the break ended) and hung around chatting to John for a while agreeing details for the tourney above.

Glad you did well.

Sat at seat nearest to, and with my back to, the front door. Had a black Tubeway Army/Gary Numan t-shirt on. Ended up still there at nearly 3am  :D

Same table as Ramona, Paul and John Jnr? Think I saw you - good result. - wp.

Yeah, was in seat 3, think John & Paul (AC Milan top?) were both on my left. I might"ve been dealing when you were in

I"ll happily meet you outside Viiper. I"m not sure "in town" is best though given that it"s a Saturday afternoon - parking will be hellish in town, near Cincin"s and pretty much anywhere in this area. This is something I"ve yet to work out but if you can suggest something, I"ll happily walk over with you.

Where are you travelling from?

Re: parking, may have changed since I was last there but they had a fenced off car park round the back with direct access to the back door of the club, plus the street behind and to the side usually had plenty spaces. Mind you, street may be metered during the day, not sure...

All the casions are empty now or only getting about 35% turn out due the stupid structures they have , i dont think anyone of them know what they are doing , and on top of that you are sitting at a table where blinds are 50-100 andsomeguy on the right of you just loses like 800 chips and says ( F__ It , I"ll have to go all in soon ) ??? WTF is that all about . Most of the players that used to ppay at casinos are playing in Pubs and at Home Games thyat have better structures than the casinos .. It has as you say become a Bingo Hall ....

Due to GCC and their time in delaying the process I will be holding the tournament in The Alea Casino .. They are affiliated with Betfair and the WSOPE and are part of the LCI Casino Group . So Entry will be done at finish of tournament.. Which really works out alot better , the only down side is that I have made it a 36 seat Double Shoot-Out
which so far have about 20 interested . On Monday the 8th of June I will be able to post when you can buy into this tournament directly at the Casino ... Works out alot better... And i think the structure is very good for alot of play ...

Start time will be at Noon sharp...

Post by: sopranoltd on June 08, 2009, 01:04:07 AM
Yes , its a 36 player Double Shoot -Out ,

6 tables of 6 players  , Final Table - 6 players , same structure ...

Buy - In is £45 + £5  , with Winner getting Entry into Event #1 and £560 for travel and expenses ...
Title: Re: Glasgow Live Poker

take it self deal?
Title: Re: Glasgow Live Poker
Post by: sopranoltd on June 11, 2009, 11:05:13 AM
yes it will be self dealt for the first round , then the casino will give us a dealer for the  Final Table ..  There is alot of interest in this so i advise anyone interested to sign up early ... BlindStructure will be as follows

25-50
50-100
100-200
150-300
200-400
250-500
300-600
400-800
500-1000
600-1200
800-1600
1000-2000
1500-3000
2000-4000
2500-5000 Capped ...

First round will be 20 minute clock , and Final Table will be 30 minute clock ....

I used the same structure we used to use at the Taj Mahal in AC ...

Hope you all like it , it involves alot of play ..

what are you lookin for cash games or tourney ?? all tournaments down here in the UK start at 8:30pm and all of their cash games start at 10:30pm . First time i ever seen this as well , Im from New Jersey and the games go all day there due to the amount of players they have and the hundreds of different level tables you can play .. Even in the Cin cinnati club where thats suppose to be a card club the gamexs start late . I play in a cash game on sundays that start at 1:00pm . We play .25-.50 NL , very nice game and very kool players .. We usually start with £50 buy in .. This way every one has same chips to start .. Level starting field ..

I know the owner Sid yes . On a good night with the footballers g/f"s and the college kids who got some throw away cash you can do quite wel , but you gotta change it up always , They are the same there but you could walk away with some nice pocket change .. If you head down to the Gala casino in merchant city , if its during the week they have alot of players that just sit down with minimum buy in which is £40 , these r the guys that r gonna wait till they get AA KK or QQ to play , you can ride their asses if you sit down with max £200 and just bully the little fishys into the corner of the bowl .. I used to go down there alot , made quite a few £££"s in that place , but since they went to self deal and changed the structures to favor the bingodonks i am not interested anymore .. I and 5 others play a weekly game similar to PAD ( poker after dark ) we each sit down with Buy in - £100 , 20,000 chips blinds 25-50 with 45 minute clock and make a nite of it with winner takes all .. We have been dojng this for about 7 months now and itis a great game .. I"d say the quality of play would be about 85% , not bad for just amateurs . I"ve cashed about 12 times , so im not doin too bad . If you wanna hook up and go for a cash game , just let me know ..

Mint Casino - No Scheduled live poker.

Riverboat - has poker on most nights not sure of what games though to be honest as I don"t play it very cleeky.  Here there is plenty of cash games on as well.

Alea"s best games are Tuesday £50 Freeze, Friday £40 + 20 these games get most runners.  also very busy on a Saturday afternoon with a £20 turbo gets about 90 players.  Plenty of cash games on.

Merchant has a few tourneys on, I won"t be playing there again though after an incident in cash game a few weeks back, seems playing in teams is allowed in Gala Casinos.

Cincinnati - has two £10 deepstack games on Monday and a Wednesday great structure but only gets around 30 players suppose if u want a fun game with decent structure and not a lot of expense its ideal.

Wabash has a regular tourney each night, not sure what it is as the website is down the now.

On a number of occasions I stuck in a late position raise only to see a group of friends occupying seats 2, 3 and 4 all shove in their stacks normally 2 at a time and then chop the pot without any community cards being deallt.

It shouldn"t but as I never called they were allowed to do as they pleased according to the dealer and cardroom superviser.

As I said I won"t be back.

Also in the other games there are a group of 3/4 players who often chop every game 50/50 and will play very softly against each other including overshoving the nuts to get their pals out the way.  They mostly play at the riverboat and can occasionally be seen in alea on a Friday.

I was thinking about going to the Gala Casino on Glassford street soon for the beginner night they hold on a Wednesday for £10 + £1 reg fee.  In work the now so the office has blocked most poker sites so can"t get onto the gala website the now.

This wasn"t one of the nights where people were playing in teams was it?  I thought that looked best night for me to get some live experience behind me prior to my 1st live event coming up in May.

You don"t need to worry about the "Beginners Night" being ruined by "teamers" - they only tend to stick around the £1/£2 Cash Table.

Only thing that may ruin your "Beginners Night" experience is that you have the occasional player that is wanting out of the tournament to join there mates at the Cash Tables, and as such pushes with any two cards.  And therefore any form of Poker goes out the window and is just a push-fest.

The only other thing that is the downside to the Merchant City, is that it is not dealer run, and as such is self-deal and if it is your first trip into the world of "live" poker - then it could be a bit intimidating having to deal and make sure everyone"s chips/antes etc are all sorted, as well as trying to play your own game.  Personally I enjoy dealing and makes me take more note of players actions etc, but I am sure it must be hard for a newbie to do both things on there "live" debut.

But, standard is quite poor, until down to the final two tables.

But, don"t be put off by the term "Beginners Night" - it"s the same old faces that play the deep stack events, and are of a decent standard, so you just need to filter out the fish from the sharks - as there are some in there.

Certainly worth just a tenner, took it down on the one occasion I played the Wed night.  Just prefer playing Cash or deeper stacked events.

cheers for all that info dgc - much appreciated man.

"beginners night" and ye need tae shuffle cards yourself :( - i cannae shuffle worth a toss tho lol

i"d rather there was a dealer tbh on my 1st ever live game - been playing on-line for a gd 2 years now and wanna move onto a few live games locally.

any other nights in Glasgow that would best suit me m8?

Even one of the nights at the alea for a low buy-in. I prefer deepstack, freezout tourneys.  Been there once for drinks and a few games of rouellete, i think it was a Tuesday night last year and the poker tourney was already running and there was a dealer at each table :), i so wanted to join in an play lol

Well Merchant don"t really do dealer-dealt tables.  So, if you fancy there (which may not be necessarily the best place to play - but is my personal preference) then you are gonna have to make-do with self deal.  Albeit, on the 4-8 tables that start, you do tend to get a volunteer from each to play dealer.  On the rare occasion, it is indeed "high carded" round the table, and if the "cruel hand of fate" picks you out - then tough luck, you are in the hotseat.  Although, they do stipulate that you only need to deal for one round of the table. So, in essence is a minimum of 9/10 hands before you can "pass the buck" to the next person for the next "high card".  But, if you are that against dealing and you are unfortunate enough to be "high carded" then you can kindly ask and plead your case that you can"t deal for ****.  And, again someone will then tend to volunteer, or at worst you prove how inept you are at dealing and then someone will jump in.  I mean no-one likes there game slowed down, and nothing worse than a ****e dealer.

At least when it comes to a final table, you will then have a dealer provided by the Casino (normally give him a tenner each if you are lucky enough to cash) for the final table, so everyone is able to concentrate on there own game.

Cincinnati Club run a £10 + £1 game on a Monday and Wednesday usually gets between 25 - 40 players and is probably the best structured game in Glasgow.

25 minute clock

25/50
50/100
75/150
100/200
150/300
200/400 25
300/600 50
400/800 50 etc etc

Friendly bunch and its self deal but you only need to do a round and on most occasions if you dunno how to deal someone will take over just to keep the game moving.

Hey everyone sorry I"ve been off the radar and been missing wayyyyy too much poker. Had a spell of illness and recently got my gall bladder out so on the mend now thankfully. Hope you"re all doing well and having your share of success.

Caught up with Derek last night in a low stakes online tourney as I"ve started getting rid of the cobwebs. Finished 8th of 86 and 12th of 90 in the 2 games so far so fairly happy with my play. Hope to catch up with you all soon, let me know if any of you are planning to hit Glasgow sometime soon and I"ll join if I can.

Cheers
Grant
