Title: Clickfest Edinburgh 2009
Post by: Cyntaf on June 18, 2009, 22:28:52 PM
Hi, 22:19 doesn"t sound very good, but, is it good enough.
I take it the whole site suffered with server probs?
I"m not software genius, would it make any difference if the buy seat button was not on the main page, as when you refresh, there would not be all the pictures and other stuff to load. Sorry if i"m teaching my granny and all that.
Just trying to help the general cause for APAT and all Our members.

Cheers :)

Everyone who has put a successful transaction through to this point has a seat, the event is still on sale.

David, I am allocating you a seat as I said I would beyond 9.30pm.  I will sort out payment details with you separately.

Thanks Paul and you"ve definitely got a seat.

It"s a server side issue and will be addressed when my boot meets our technician"s arse tomorrow  :)

Hi Spud, I"m sure Des will post soon enough. He will have been having a nightmare.

I wouldn"t be surprised if all who posted are in, as a lot give up until tomorrow/later etc.

Not too sure about your status in Eire? Sure Des will get to answer you on that soon too... GL All :)

UK payment providers will not accept payments from Ireland due to Irish government legislation.  Go figure?

Last season we ran live qualifying rounds for every National event at 14 different casinos.  Happy days.... unfortunately some of them ran off like live versions of this evening"s clickfest.

Oh - I see - was not aware.

Maybe run a smaller amount of qualifiers and revolve them around the country?

I am aware no perfect system.

It looks like I will get a seat - but gut feel is that people should qualify and not clickfest.

A few thoughts - for Sat"s people close to qualifying get right to buy (say the final table?)

More $20 entry sat"s - or do Blue Square veto this?

Also for the Irish players - if they cannot clickfest a special case for a live qualifier.

I look forward to thoughts.

maybe you could use BlueSQ to take the payment?

Set up a holding tourney (like they do on other sites for WSOP qualifiers) open reg up at 9, put the max number of seats in and then watch it fill.

Then ask BlueSQ to kindly pay the money over to Des (maybe Des could agree that with them as part of the sponsorship deal)

Then if people want to drop out they just unregister, until the money has gone out. then revert to seat exchange.

What do people think of that?

This is already under consideration and was close to being adopted for this event.  Will revist that before the buy in to the English Amateur Championship in September, as all of the World events are sold out.

This was the first APAT live event I tried to get into - last night I transferred money to Blue Square because I assumed that"s how we would register "til i spoke to Mary for confirmation - makes much more sense to do it through a poker site, IMHO.

Aren"t there a bunch of people who have problems connecting to iPoker?

AOL was one of the ISP"s talked about IIRC, would this mean that people with AOL would get frozen out of the registration process?

Also it would require everyone to have a Blue Square account and to have the money transferred to it.

If someone doesn"t want to play on Blue Square it isn"t too hard to just open one up as a means to an end.

But if someone opens a Blue Square account, loads up the £75 to pay for registration but then is too slow and misses out on a seat - will they be able to just cash straight out their £75 and would it cost them anything to do so?

If the link is still live, then there is the possibility that tickets are still available.

Des will confirm numbers this evening, and seats are allocated on a first come, first served basis, so if you want a seat, click through, payment is only ever authorised at that point, so nothing to lose.

Technology is not always our friend, but lessons have been learnt from this one.

It"s tough to test what the website will do when a couple of hundred people constantly clicked refresh from 8:55pm.

Everyone is treated in the same, fair, way and the seats are allocated in the order that they are processed through the system.

Apologies again for last nights delays, but this is one extreme, and if you make it through to play an APAT weekend, I am sure you will appreciate the exact opposite and see what APAT is all about.

I don"t actually think having the seat sale on Blue Square would be a good idea. As has been mentioned already - a lot of people have had problems with Blue Square at points - where as up until the last two clickfests nobody has really had much bother with them. Maybe it is as someone mentioned earlier, something to do with the new homepage, and the link should be posted on the forum rather than the homepage which has a million pictures etc to load. I think clickfest direct from APAT site is definitely more fair than one from Blue Square as clickfest really is fastest fingers first where as on Blue Square I think it might be down to who has better internet connection.

Either way - I hope to see you all in Edinburgh.

This was my first experiance of the "clickfest" and i have to admit i was not impressed.  Like others have mentioned before there has to be a better structure.  A structure which would give us all a fair chance of getting in.  8)

.......

It"s tough to test what the website will do when a couple of hundred people constantly clicked refresh from 8:55pm.

........

...it"s not really...it"s pretty easy to test and the developer should be testing for just exactly that, bit shabby imo....NB that"s not directed at apat as i"m guessing you didn"t develop it inhouse...just think your supplier owes you a bit of a refund there if that"s the line they"re feeding you...

....

Hi guys, there are still seats available so no need for a list at this point.  If you have purchased one, you have it  :)

When all of the seats are gone we will finalise the player list and publish it.

While i do appreciate that it is the same for everyone i have to say that it felt like a ryanair flight rather than an organised one.  I would be more in favour of a ballot system where you got the chance to register then apat carried out a ballot after a cut off date.  Thus meaning your name was in no matter how good a pc/laptop you had or how many.  It would seem this time most people on the night got seats but it was a horrible feeling when my page would not refresh for an hour.  It would seem apat are looking at this seriously and i hope they come to a satisfactory outcome.

They tried a ballot for the first couple of events and tbh nodody liked it and APAT got lambasted for using the method at the time. Unfortunately, no system is perfect, but that said I think the current system is the best. Just for the record, every time I have attempted to buy in via clickfest over the last 2 years I have been successful, and I live in the sticks with a very poor broadband speed, so if  Ican get in I think most other, who want to, can too.
