Maybe for some, but I would never compare him to Lennon.
-
Adored by millions, to them he will be missed. One of my mates had tickets to see him at o2 in July ... pretty sure the flights and accom will be non-refundable :(

He was Bad!

Will not be shedding a tear for the man.

Obviously was some crazy mixed up guy, but nobody can deny he was and is a musical Legend.

One can only assume that your atrocious spelling is due to being deeply affected by this tragic event, but one cannot allow your sweeping emotion to be an excuse for your comparison of Jackson with one of the world"s true musical Genius".

Personally speaking, I couldn"t stand the man - I thought he was a freak. However, I don"t think there"s a problem with comparing him to Lennon when talking about "musical genius" - there can be no denying that Jackson was one of the most well known pop musicians of all time. Everybody knows his music, and could sing a line from a Jackson song,
no matter what their individual tastes are. He was a better singer than most of today"s "stars" before he ever started school!! And as for his dancing - Fred Astaire proclaimed Jackson to be the best male dancer in history.
If his early 80s persona had continued and had not declined into something very wierd, I think people today would be mourning in the same way that they did for Elvis, Freddy Mercury, John Lennon, etc. In fact, I think that many people probably are. After all, even this poker forum has got a thread going that has people taking an interest.
As I said, couldn"t stand the man, but fair play - he really was an entertainment genius.
-
There is no denying the Greatness of the Beatles and the song writing abilities of the Fab 4 and Lennon and McCartney in particular, but Jacko does stand along side these musical genius.
He was an incredible talent from being a young child, and his music transcended many racial and cultural barriers, to become the biggest selling solo artist of all time.
I am not a particular Jacko fan, but I feel that people quite often judge the man ( weird, troubled, maybe even criminal) but his music will stand the test of time.

What becomes of the hundreds of Jackson impersonator"s now ? ?

I don"t know ask the Elvis impersonators.

I don"t know ask the Elvis impersonators.
Yeah, but Elvis was in a different class entirely and people STILL think he is alive.

I hope not.

I fail to see how anyone can compare Jacko with John Lennon and the Beatles, granted he did have musical talent and is going to be one of the "greats" but never in my mind will he have the musical genius of the Beatles and John Lennon ever!
Can I also say, I hope this thread remains clean without any of the disgusting jokes or horrible references to his well publicised personal life.

Why?
Personally I prefer to listen to the Beatles rather than Michael Jackson, but that is a personal preference, as is your view. But the fact remains that Worldwide, Jackson has a following that is not dissimilar to the Beatles, both in terms of size, record sales, and hysteria.... therefore a comparison is reasonable. After all, if that weren"t the case, this thread might not exist.
-
That is so right Steve it is down to personal preference

the only reason not to compare him to Lennon is u grew up in a completely different era, so of course, you stand him in different ground.... anyone in their 30"s not 50+ will tell you he revolutionised music and was indeed a big an icon as Lennon. . if not bigger. . and as for me, i"m more a beatles fan than Jacko, always have been. . . that said, he was nothing short of a musical genius. . . . . . .all topped off with the fact he didn"t have the easiest of lives of a normal upbringing. . . idolised by millions he will be sorely missed. .

HAHAHAHAHA that made me laugh it really did, you think I grew up in a different era, what age do you think i am!! I was brought up by a father who idolised John Lennon and the Beatles and I was 11 when John died and was thrown even more into his music, but Jacko was always there whilst I was growing up and I never liked him, thats my preference.
-
Enough already about the Beatles, please.
-
Why? its a fair discussion
-
Lennon pwns Jackson imo.

i feel sorry for farrah faawcett..what a day to die....talk about overshadowed! ::)

What sells albums and cements legendary status more than a death...
Convenient timing me thinks.
He"ll have been paid a chunk of an advance for O2 gigs in London, promoter will have insurence to cover any of their losses and lots of tracks are already known to be finished with a bunch of new people. How much that there"s an album full of new material before the end of year just in time for the Christmas rush and becomes the biggest seller in years.
Michael is chilling in some compound in Bahrain counting the dough.
Clever marketing ploy FTW ;)
No disrespect intended, I do believe the above is possible. Highly unlikely but def possible.

Just been out with my younger brother, he saw Jacko at Roundhay, and has been really affected by his death. Jacko was a star, and will be missed, and the music he created will live for ever.
Oh by the way Mair happy 50th ;)

Agreed, because The Beatles and John Lennon = 5 people, namely John, Paul, George, Ringo...and er...John. All very talented in their own right, particularly the writing partnership between John and Paul along with the production genius of George Martin. I feel sorry for Paul, if he had died tragically perhaps he would be adored as much as our beloved John. Although I would guess Paul is happy enough about this situation.
I didn"t have any particular views about Michael Jackson. If anything I felt sorry for him.
