What, if any, poker tools (Trackers, Aides, Calculators, and Assistants etc) do APAT members use?
I have been thinking about getting 1 of these but am unsure which to use as there are so many out there. I want it to work with BSQ as we are going to be playing there now.
Also, any views on whether they should be used at all!!

I just look at Official poker rankings, after all you dont have a tracker when you play live so I dont think you should be able to use them online. >:(
-
I think you"ll find PokerTracker is by far the most popular. And if used to analyse your play regularly it is an invaluable tool.
For cash game play, couple it with GameTime+. This gives an overlay on the game window, which can be customised. Out of the box it will display %hands played, %pre-flop raises, BB won/lost, total hands in dbase for each player at the table.
As to the rights or wrongs... I have no opinion other than it"s no good taking the moral high ground and sticking you head in the sand... you can be sure that 90% of you opponents have this info at their fingertips, using it just levels the playing field.
-
I can recommend Poker Office. I agree with Rio regarding the use of such tools during play but if you are not comfortable, then just use it when you are not playing to analyse and improve your game.

Well up until now I haven"t taken my online game too seriously. I much prefer live.
I was hoping that this software would help my game in the long term, both live and online.
I"m more interested in the results over a period rather that the stats you get at the table because you don"t get these given to you in a live game.

Does Poker Office work with BlueSquare??

Does Poker Office work with BlueSquare??
I"ve not played on BlueSquare myself so cannot give a personal confirmation. The Poker Office web-site says that it works on the iPoker network. If I play in one of the on-line qualifiers on Sun/Mon, I can check it out then and let you know.
-
Yes it works on BlueSQ (for cash anyway, not tried it for tourneys).
As for the fact you don"t get the stats in a live game so you don"t want them online - I"d say they"re different beasts. Also, if your opposition use them, then you"re putting yourself at a disadvantage. Particularly useful if you"re multi-tabling.

Next you"ll be saying let all sportsmen take any performance enhancements they want........makes it a level playing field. ;)
Best see if I can get EPO done before the BB footie.
Also we should hear no more complaints about angle shooting

I have been considering getting one of these programmes myself. My qualms are not about the moral implications - as, like already stated, you are simply levelling the playing field.
My main concern is the impact that it would have on your live game play i.e. would you suddenly field exposed/helpless without the aid of HUDs/overlays/stats etc etc.
I know that ICM is the big thing at the moment during end game play. I am also aware that these programmes pretty much put you onto auto pilot for this phase of a game/tournament. In which case, when you are using the programme do you gradually get a feel for what the right plays are? Also, once you have acquired this "feel" for endgame play, does it seep into your live play and help you with your decision making process (even without you having the pc with you)?????

A completely different thing. Performance-enhancing drugs are banned in sports. PokerTracker isn"t banned by the poker rooms. Therefore it"s legal and a legitimate tool to use.
You"re putting yourself at a disadvantage if you don"t use them - but it"s not cheating. Collusion would be more analogous to drug taking in sport.

my post was more tongue in cheek, however:
Couldn"t see the poker rooms being able to ban them anyway, how could they monitor it? So doesn"t really come into it.

So therefore it is performance enhancement. It doesn"t worry me that people have it, may invest myself purely because it isn"t/can"t be banned. if the poker rooms did ask players not to use it would you bin it?

Yes, it works fine with tournies on Blue Square

I understand you can get poker office for free through one of the promotions but apparantly you have you have to pay after 1 year.
Is it worth it?

For the relative few dollars that PokerTracker and Poker Ace Head-UP overlay is. I would only ever suggest these two combined. Office is a watered down version of the above imo.
The money it can make you is worth it, no doubt at all!

I downloaded PokerTracker when Daniel Negreanu mentioned it in as article around 9 months ago. My thinking behind this was that if Pros and my opponents are using it, am I missing an opportunity?
I managed to download and integrate it with FullTilt and PokerStars.com but I have to say that I found it anything but straight forward to set up or easy to use. More features become unlocked when you purchase the code but I wasn"t impressed enough to invest in it.
More recently I downloaded PokerWingman after seeing an advert on the InsidePoker website. This was very easy to install and use and it ran pretty well for the 3 days I used it on PS. I found it was slowing things down too much on my PC (I usually have around 5 work related windows open at the same time) and it regularly "advised me" to fold very playable hands. Again, when you upgrade to Pro, more facilities become available to you including being able to program it to guide you on how to play more aggressively or passively. I have not subscribed to this either.
PokerOffice doesn"t look all that good to me and, as reviews are not too great and as I"ve been unable to download a trial version, I won"t be investigating this one any further.
FYI, I used http://www.pokerlistings.com/analysis-software to find out what was available and what was rated by other users. I might investigate PokerAce and PokerTracker again on UKChamp"s advice but I remain unconvinced.

You are right Neil, it is a pain to get set up and is rather complex, but with perseverance it can be a useful tool once you get used to the interface and the myriad of options. It"s not an instant fix though, it requires time away from the table to analyse and go over the results to reap the benefits. It doesn"t give advice on how to play specific hands, so the analysis is all down to you.
I would say that in general it is of only limited use for tournament players, but if you play cash, especially if you regularly find yourselves up against the same opponents, then it can pay dividends. Also useful for analysing your own play to see what types of hands you are perhaps mis-playing etc. Combined with the HUD it can bring benefits at the table itself, if you have enough data in your DB on your opponents it can give you good insight into their playing styles and you can adapt accordingly.
At the end of the day, the cost of the software can be covered pretty quickly by a couple of STT cashes or a successful hour on the cash tables, I reckon it"s worth it if you have the time and inclination to make the most of it...
Cheers,
Blair.

Just to let people here know, I never use any real-time software on-line because I feel that it would "hurt" my live game. Maybe this is why I am losing on-line. lol (Winning live though, don"t worry.)
I do use statistics software to check my ROI% and see graphics and such. I wrote it myself and its 100% free to use for anyone. Simply visit www.pokerproject.eu and check out the tracker.
For those amongst you that are using PT (PokerTracker), you may be interested in a little program I wrote for data mining. Check out www.gold-mine-poker.com but beware; its not free. It only works for iPoker clients of which BlueSquare is one.
