Title: norfolk inbred betting rules
Post by: antthecat on November 02, 2009, 21:59:03 PM
hi, want some opinions on this as im still mad at the cardroom manager (i did call him a inbred as well as everyone else which went down like the titanic) but in my opinion this ruling is so weird.

what happened was(a bit like jethro here) i announced raise (blinds 50-100) and said 300 and placed 300 chips in the pot, the regulars said that i had to put the 100 call in first and then put 300 more in, i replied that this is a bet of 400 not what i said 300. this is the first time i had this problem so it made me mad.and i bent too many ettiquite rules(acting out of turn, sighing like i would hit this flop even though i missed, just wind everyone up)

what is your opinion of this mad betting?

My opinion is that if you use the words "Norfolk" and "Inbred" in the same sentence you are asking for trouble. You"re actually one of those Suffolk foreigner types aren"t you? Myself and Andrew C-B will get our revenge by separating you from your chips at the end of this month.

As long as you throw 300 chips in the middle is shoudnt really matter. I usually dont evan talk when im betting or repoping. I just count it out behind the line and push into the middle. As long as is is not a string bet, it shouldnt matter, and i let the dealer do the counting and talking as im reaching for my shades. Too easy.  :D

For the record, I am neither Norfolk or Imbred!!!!!!

I am a Leicester lad who got lost on a visit to the seaside and never found his way back out of Sheringham (Other than to see Green Day, Leicester City FC, visit Thailand or Poker Tourneys)  ;)

Technically you did state a raise of 300 which would be 400 total, most places I"ve played in will generally let it go as being 300 total but it makes it a lot easier and eliminates any possible confusion if the player either says "raise to 300" or "raise 300 more"

I would also say it is a raise to 400 unless u say "raise to 300" or just put in 300 chips

People from norfolk are inbred idiots so you have to make it simple for them by being precise.

Although you were probably in the wrong regarding the raise, I can"t understand why they or you were so bothered about 100 chips, nor why you are so worked up about it. How do 100 chips justify your self-confessed behaviour at the time and thereafter?

thanks for your opinions on the betting matter, i can see the logic in what was said, next time ill be raising but throwing the call first in the middle first then throwing the raising chips in. i was angry before the betting point as the players and staff dont explain certain rules, they shout them down your neck.

yes i know that simon and andy will both be trying to take my chips soon and my reply to that is "i will only play aces, thats it, fold the rest"

Ant, I will believe it when I see it. You know as well as I do that at some point you"ll get bored and try an elaborate bluff which I will spot. However, given the way my luck tends to go in live events, your 10/2 offsuit will crack my aces and i will have to run from the building before the laughter begins.

I try not to put in the call first and then add a second amount as the raise.  It"s still open to mistakes.  Say for example there is a bet of 200, and you want to raise, say to 1,000.  You go to put in 200, but by mistake toss in a 100 a 500 chip - that will stand as your bet as it"s enough for a raise.

Why not count out the amount before you then move it over the line?  Then you know how much you"re betting and there"s no confusion.  If you are going to announce the amount, as mentioned say "raise to.." or raise "make it another ... on top".  I prefer the former though personally.

"raise to.."

just say this. There is no confusion here.

I actually make a point of saying what I"m going to do before I count out my bet/raise. That way my intention is clear before I"ve touched any chips and If I miscount, get colours mixed up, string bet them in, drop them etc there is no problem.

I think will"s idea of not speaking and just putting the chips in can be a mistake (especially when putting a single chip in, that would be enough for a raise, counts as a call)
