Hi all
Advice please - did i play this hand correctly. I was pretty shortstacked and was aiming for max value. Should I just have taken it down on the flop?
Help!!!!!!
Mid stage of tournament
Blinds are 400/200 - I have 8500
Villain limps from UTG plus 1 for 400 - no reads on him - pretty new to the table - his stack is 30500
I re-raise to 1600 - with ad kh all others fold so we are heads up
Flop is
th 4d :as:
He checks and I check behind
Turn is 7h
Villain now leads for 2400
I shove for remaining 6974 and he insta calls and shows 8s 9s
River brings 6d and I"m gone.
Now I am not concered about the outcome - I think I was about 80% fav when the money went in on the turn, but do you guys have any different views on it?
Cheers

pretty marginal either way, probably ok vs poor opponents
generally i will bet this flop because i would with all my bluffs

all in on the flop

you and all of us would have played the hand in the same way. but the more we play. we learn its better 2 bet when you hit the flop it stops them fishing and keeps you in the game. just my opinion

u played it ok , just mtt variance you"ll get used to it after 1000 mtts hopefully :).. Dry ish flop so the check flop is ok if you have an idea of villains ranges that he limps with , if your not sure where u are then cbet 1/2 pot ish planning to put rest in on the turn if called.

I wouldve been bet 2/3 to pot on the flop.
Taking the 3800 pot here adds over 50% to your 7000 ish chips. Also checking let"s a JQ,KJ,KQ hands to hit there gutshot or a pocket pair to turn a set

Are u betting this flop w/ ur KQ type hands? I prob weak lead the flop but only bcos I have a fairly aggro image and am c/bettin ghere a pretty huge amount. Dnt mind the check back a lot tho - all just depends on how the other players perceive you.
-
if i was first to act i would check to try and induce the bet behind..... but in position like you were, i would bet. My bet size would be small enough to make him think he has f/e if he raises.. With your stack size, I would always be happy to get it all in here - outcome is irrelevant.

Really depends a lot on the villain here but with stack sizes as they are I probably check to induce him to lead into me on the turn.
If he checks the turn to me again then I prob lead for a fraction over half pot.
PS - raise less preflop

thanks all
regards how my image was - the villain was new to the table so i guess he had no reads on me regards how I play.
My plan was to extract max and I accept the variance input.
Hindsight is a wonderful thing!!
I think on the whole my play was ok - would I do the same again?of course not lol ;)
cheers
