Title: MTT SNGs versus MTTs
Post by: shozboy1 on March 12, 2010, 11:23:34 AM
Hi, this is a donk question guys, but I need to ask it anyway.

What is the strategic difference between MTT SNGs, like for example, the standard 180 mans you get on stars, 1500 chips, 15 min levels?
This, say versus a 3000 chip 15 min "tournament" you get on stars? I"m not talking about the 5 buck donkaments with 6000 entrants, but the bigger buy in ones which draw in only afew hundred players. Apart from the starting chip stack, what are the fundamental differences between the 2 and more importantly, why and how do you approach them differently?

survival imo is more important in the early levels of sng180s, rather than chip accumulation..obv ABC poker is the way to go as pretty much 1/2 the field will be gone after 2 levels..

So how then is a 180 man MTT sng different in terms of strategy from a 10000 chip 30 min live tourney with 180 entrants strategically if at all?

well, the strategy is determined by the structure of the tournament and can differ depending on your style of play. Some play uber tight to begin with as they are less comfortable deep-stacked and then open up when they have 20-30bb stacks, some go for accumulation right from the off.

Live games do differ from online ones without a doubt, standard can change with the effective buy-in as well.

My only strat tip is to play well and play in accordance with the players at your table.

I"m certainly more comfortable in the 20-30BB stack size game. Thats my excuse for donking half my stack off before the first break nearly every live tourney I play
