Title: APAT FREEROLL on Betfair & non-apat members.
Post by: jimienddtrx on May 08, 2010, 15:46:05 PM
I have noticed that the said APAT members only freeroll scheduled for this evening at 7pm on Betfair is full of non-apat members (alot of Russian and Eastern European players) and becoming more by the second. Obviously the password was too easy to find and has been leaked making a bit of a mockery of the freeroll. I myself was able to find the password on a Russian password site so obviously the gates are pretty much open to all and sundry now and would not be surprised if we end up with a few hundred or more non-eligible players playing tonight.
I have notified APAT via E:Mail about the said situation and hopefully they can act on this matter a.s.a.p. Either cancelling the freeroll and moving to another date (notifying us all individually by e:mail with the password next time) or adding a banner to the current freeroll page stating that ONLY APAT members will be eligible to win said prizes was my suggestion.

Your thoughts on this matter please?

Jefferson Vandike (APAT MEMBER).

The password is freely available on this site - anyone trying to log in to an APAT tournament would be referred here, and can come and find the password.  Just because the entrants are from Eastern Europe, doesn"t mean that they aren"t APAT memebers...... APAT isn"t exclusive to the UK!!

I know for sure that some reg"ed aren"t.

Unless I"m mistaken, there is no rule that says a member of APAT has to post on the forum.

That as well

Basically anybody who plays in an APAT tournament is an APAT member.

The freeroll is for APAT members but if they play the freeroll they become members.

It would be better if the person who wins it actually plays the WCOAP, but I don"t think it"s a huge deal if they don"t.

As I stated in another thread, the password is now public domain on the password trawling sites...  As the game was given a password to make it so APAT people play, it may as well not have a password now..

And before anyone else asks,

Yes it is capped at 750 runners

No, I can"t get that increased

Yes I am an APAT member, and no, I didn"t register in time

Yes, I am going for a lie down.

I think one of them maybe mistook the Luton member page for this freeroll, as he / ( or she) registered their interest there!!...Or maybe our club has gone global!  ;D

I am just looking at a massive influx of russian names into that freeroll..  Gotta be thinking someone has posted the password to another place and we are getting people entering a freeroll because they can... How many of them really gonna plan to go to Nottingham..!!!  If that is the case, really spoiling it a little for the genuine APATers..

Yes this is such a shame. Tournament is full now. Looks like I have missed out  >:(

The top 20 players will receive $77.50, which coincidentally is enough to enter one of the side events at this seasons WCOAP."

So top 20 receive $77.50 which = $1550, yet total prize pool is given as $3100? Which would mean either top 40 receive $77.50 or top 20 receive $150, which is it to be?

I was looking forward to playing the APAT freeroll tonight.  I wish I had not bothered now.  My table was filled with Russians who did not give a flying F*ck whether they won or not, just kept pushing in with any old sh*te and kept hitting.  Totally unplayable game, but, that is what happenes with public freerolls.  I am sure, had it just been APAT members it would not have been that way.

There is only 1 way to stop it and that is make it a buy in.I"m sure APAT"ers would prefer to buy in knowing there is more of a chance that only real APAT"ers are playing.
Title: Re: APAT FREEROLL on Betfair & non-apat members.
Post by: Waz1892 on May 08, 2010, 19:40:55 PM
IMHO

I think you obv cant stop players playing a freeroll whether a password or not, as this will always get out.

This way Betfair get want they want...traffic on site..APAT get want they are looking for...more global coverage..

The "issue" is that this is for a APAT prestigous event within the APAT community.   I think if it was a token only used for the Worlds..then this may pit people of from playing as they couldn"t use the token.

I can"t believe there are so many complaining about playing against poor standard opponents!

It is a freeroll... what do you expect? Would you prefer to sit at a table full of top class players?

It"s a satellite, sit tight and wait for the chips to come to you.

Please then, kindly tell Betfair not to bother making freerolls any more on behalf of APAT if they are going to be invaded by every 9 year old Russian out there.  I play poker, not Bingo, and if you are still in by playing poker against a table of bingo players, I am very surprised.....!!!!

I had a raise and reraise ahead of me, while holding KK... both called my all-in... one has 8 2, one has 6 7....  67 flopped 2 pair... and luckily I hit a better 2 pair on the river, but how can you call that poker.   I would prefer not to even bother if that happens agai, as I already said...

Just to clarify, the prizes in the freeroll are NOT guaranteed seats to the WCOAP.  You would still have to buy into those events.

Whether those luck to make the top 20, choose, to do so, is entirely upto them.

If they don"t, then that"s more chance of others getting seats when they go on sale tomorrow night.

I hear what you sat Leigh, but if 20 "tokens" or whatever they are called go to 20 Russians who have no intention of registering for any of the side games, then the whole attempt by APAT and betfair to generate more interest has been a complete and utter failure....

I want to see APAT players or new people who want to be APAT players get them 20 tokens.. Not 20 randoms who spend their life trawling for freerolls and then playing the game like a huge spoiler because it cost them nothing to get in...

Isn"t the whole point of running these is to give APAT members a chance of winning a "token" or "voucher"( as Betfair has put it in the lobby)so they can buy in to a live side event?

I"m with you but here"s one for you....

Define "APAT member".....I think you"ll find it harder than you think to include everyone who should be in there.

Clearly the answer is to make these prizes actual tokens that can ONLY be used for WCOAP seats and are non-transferable.

I"m afraid, if you want the sponsor to stop putting on additional events, with added value, you"ll have to ask them yourself.

BTW, in a satellite, with a raise and a re-raise ahead of you, there"s a case for folding KK PF.

Press release

The purpose of this news release is to relay factual information regarding the deployment of the freeroll on Betfair tonight. In response to the furore ILEAS Region 8 Mobile Field Force Team has been deployed.

First, let me say that the Metropolitan Police Department, teamed with other area law enforcement including the APAT moderators rapid response unit led by Capt Leigh Chipaccrual, worked hand in hand with the United Nations Secret Service coordinating the security of what I would consider a successful event.  As one could imagine, the security of such an event taxes all agencies involved.  As plans were being made it became clear that it would be prudent to enlist other resources to be adequately prepared for any crowd problems. Especially an invasion from our colleagues in the Eastern Block.

There are crowd control teams, Mobile Field Force Teams (MFFT), which are equipped, trained and coordinated through ILEAS.  These teams are made up of law enforcement officers from a variety of police agencies from within the ILEAS Region where they work.  Members of these teams are trained and equipped to adequately and appropriately respond to any variety of crowd control issues.

Due to the number of entrants into the freeroll, it was decided to ask for a MFFT from another region.  Members of the MFFT from Region 8 came to Betfair per our request.  Fifteen members of this team came to assist; they are all employed by other poker enforcement agencies and were paid for their time by their own agencies.

Leading up to the start of the tournament a group of individuals positioned themselves in the lobby.  This was within the area that was to be kept secure by a password that was proven to be less than secure. Prior to the event only passworded individuals were to be in this area; Several APAT member requested these individuals leave the area and to go back to a line East of Poland. They did not comply. No physical force was used during this deployment.

With the exception of this small glitch, the entire event went very smoothly.  I would like to thank everyone from the law enforcement agencies and other city and country departments who assisted with this event.

Thank you.

I see sixofakind has just signed up here after the game started.Do you call him an APAT member.

What I mean by APAT member is ones that have been a member before today when they saw the game in the lobby.
I only follow the UK and Ireland live events so how many European events are held a year?

sit tight and wait for the chips to come to you.

with a raise and a re-raise ahead of you, there"s a case for folding KK PF.

Someone needs to check the security of the site cos Alan"s account has been hacked.

You"re gonna fold KK preflop? I"ll believe it when I see it!

What many do not realise that APAT members aren"t just names on this forum...they include: PokerStars players, BlueSquare players, Betfair players, anyone who has ever played ANY APAT event. There are literally thousands upon thousands of "legitimate" APAT members.

You can certainly argue that these so called "interlopers" aren"t bringing anything to the party but if they have Betfair accounts, they are in APAT.

For the record...I prefer true "tokens" to cash prizes that can be used in any way you want. As I"ve said before, perhaps next time.

I think the point is no one is against new players joining the APAT world, but that those who win a token to a side event actualy use it. what is the point in entering a freeroll satellite with no intention of taking part.

Just bust out of the freeroll in 37th  :(
There was only about 7 from the UK left in.
The password was posted on a site that advertises freerolls (probably to blame for the sellout) and on a Russian forum.
Oh well better luck tomorrow.

There are no tokens...Betfair got that wrong....the prizes are all cash.

If they had been tokens we wouldn"t be having this discussion.

I"m still confused as to what APAT gets out of this.Do you really think that the Interloppers are going to care about where they got the money from. And they will have no problem withdrawing it so Betfair doesn"t really gain anything from it.

What do APAT get?.....free publicity and thus greater recognition and standing in the poker community.

What do Betfair get?...nothing except free publicity and some goodwill....it"s promotional...you get that don"t you?

Has the impact been diluted by the way it"s worked out? Sure...but I bet there will be some lessons learned.

Is it only me who is disappointed to see regular APAT members moan so much over a freeroll that has been given to APAT members to play.  Anyone who plays in an APAT game are auto members, we welcome ANY new members from wherever they may come from, why do you think there are so many new european tournaments this year, to encourage and welcome new players from these places.

But to come on and be horrible to people who played last night from these other countries is just wrong imo very wrong and most certainly not the normal APAT spirit.

As dante has said, no matter who they come across and meet be it in poker or on forum they are hospitable, I see no hospitable behaviour from regular APAT members here.

Its a freeroll people get over it and be courteous to new APAT members no matter how they became one.

it looks like a good night for apat and betfair 750 runners playing a apat comp

positives
1st apat it has increased there members and given them world exposure

2nd betfair the sponsor(the people paying for all this) they had 750 players playing on there site and some might have been new members and might come back and play some more

negatives
cant be none as it was a FREEROLL

Why can"t people see that all 750 players were "APAT"ers".

There is a clue in the word "World".

APAT is not restricted to UK.

I think the money would have been better spent on an "added value" tournament.

For example a satellite where all entry fee"s pay for the WCOAP entries and the added money is split between all those who win a seat to help with expenses.

That way the people and sites who just trawl for freerolls won"t have picked up on it.

I think we are kind of missing the point here. Posters are saying that the people comlaining are not acting in the spirit of APAT. I disagree, I think they are trying to uphold the spirit of APAT. Its obvious, looking back at the posts, that these players were looking for money and nothing else. They are not interested in attending the event in August. Surley that"s what the freeroll was about. If not then scrap all the stuff about the side games and just play for the money. If it"s an actual event for a seat in the side games then give them a seat and add the cash to the prize pool.

A lot of people who played weren"t and aren"t interested in APAT and don"t know anything about APAT still because all they did was pick up the password from a website for people who just trawl the web looking for freerolls.

As I"ve put on the other thread I think the money would be better spent on providing added money rather than a freeroll.

Having said that, I think it"s very wrong for people to make any assumptions as to which players were or weren"t just "taking advantage".

And even where there are people who were only along for the free ride it"s much better to just accept that fact with good grace rather than rudeness.

I think what most are trying to say is that it is not acceptable behaviour to bad mouth new members no matter how they became one.  As for the freeroll, yes there may well have been a better way to have it played out eg token, but its done now and these posts are not required or needed to slate the players who played last night.

They are also correct in that it is not APAT spirit.

Lets look at what the freeroll has achieved

[ x ] increased exposure for APAT

[ x ] increased traffic for Betfair

[ x ] extra value for poker players - for free

[   ] APAT spirit shown by all existing members

I disagree, MW...on the way the money was spent.

The freeroll idea was perfectly fine. However, it should have been a token, as many people have said, rather than cash itself.

With regard to the freeroll, a token may well have prevented this situation but as I have said on the other thread, it is done now, and its experience that apat have gained from it and can adjust for the next time we are fortunate to have a freeroll provided for the members.

Why would Betfair sponsor a freeroll to the tune of $1550 if they only wanted existing APAT players to enter it? Is that not preaching to the converted?

Poker sites put on freerolls to bring additional traffic to the site. If some of the participants go on to become APAT players, then that is to APAT's benefit. Those that don"t will probably use their $77.50 to continue playing on Betfair, increasing and/or maintaining Betfairs player base and fluidity, paying rake and reg fees... this is "what the freeroll was all about."

Some shocking behaviour from APAT members last night imo.  Des and Co. work their backsides off to expand APAT and at the very next opportunity, long standing members attack the newbies.  You are only hurting the forum with those types of attacks and slapping the faces of the people who work so hard on your behalf.  WP.  Some people should really be ashamed of themselves right now.

Ok Rio, I understand your point of view. So there should be no issues at all with spaming the Internet with the apat "password" so everyone can enter the freeroles and other APAT events then. Fair enough. Let"s see how many seats are available at the next one for existing members.

Just ran  9s 9c into pocket  4d 4h from Dante another Russian (you know my views on Russians)

Obviously  4c on flop

Nh gg wp

ty

Yes,I do it ;D

My ideas:  You had quite normal stack with which it is possible to play.... But you with UTG have made All-In... What for?AA or KK? No Then you simply would make good raise that someone has probably come in pot with a good hand.... The average pair something like 10 10 or 99 or 88, it in the worst for me a case means at you.... Or something like A9,A10
I on SB have thought and have decided to make a call, counting on the second variant, but have not guessed... My stack exceeded yours in some times, therefore I have risked... And me has carried... sorry...And thanks for 77 dollars))
P.S To play about 44-it bad game for my part, very much loose it is played.... But also 99 with UTG are not played All-in with average a stack, it is necessary to look Flop... Both of us have done mistakes, but has carried to me... gl you!

Apologies Dante, I did forget to post that you had a seriously large stack compared to me and I would have done the same. and my ref to Russians was to do with the scoop Pokerstars thingy and you can check back the thread all very tongue in cheek.

I have seen some very honourable comments from some of our new overseas members and would like to welcome them aboard "HMS apat".

I think we all agree a token system would be better in future and im sure this will be noted.

Oh and i believe betfair have put on a satellite tonight with 5 added seats,,,,,well done betfair

Well done to those who "qualified" for the wcoap side events, hopefully we will see those winnings used for APAT buyins but that looks unlikely. The freeroll was a great idea and we all know now that a token would have been the way to go. Welcome dante, hope this tourney isn"t a flash in the pan and the community and population of APAT grows. Surely this was the indication with such a good schedule and sponser for this season.

For me personally, I went out in about 130th wen my qc qd hit a flop of  qh ks 6c (suits not exact) and the villain just had to have  kh kd sign.

A double up there and I won have been around the top 20 looking for a good push. Frustrating that the free value was quite possibly won by players with no interest in the worlds events but a lesson learned and full support for APAT in branching out to new members in future and for similar events with great value.

The freeroll idea was perfectly fine. However, it should have been a token, as many people have said, rather than cash itself.

The added money for expenses idea also relates back to the previous suggestion about having satellites with expenses, if people want to stick around for the whole of the WCOAP then having expenses as the added value is going to be really helpful.

The freeroll with a token obviously makes it easier to market to attract more new players, and added money for expenses makes it a more practical option for the players to use their winnings to go.

I personally think it"s better to have the practical option rather than the marketing option, but either way round is equally as valid it"s just a matter for APAT and Betfair to decide their main aim (probably marketing obv)

I could point out that it was from a magazine I had a paid subscription for. I"m not against freerolls per se, and this one still achieved it"s aim like you said for attracting new players to Betfair and new players to APAT - but I think similar aims can be achieved in a different way, and if it is going to be a freeroll then it can be managed better (like the token idea).

Make it a non-transferable token, if you can"t play live then you don"t play the freeroll. I realise things come up at last minute and people would want to sell but it"s been gained from a freeroll so you"re not losing anything except the time invested and if you go into the game knowing it"s non-tranferable then there can be no complaining when life gets in the way. Or if you can"t make it you tell APAT and it goes to 21st place instead and so on... APAT spirit FTW innit?

Unlike Bainn who uses the Monty Python translator (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2YYM209GJoE).

Can I just say, I am really disappointed with a number of APAT members on this thread.

We get a new member join called dante, and not one of you has yet tried to sign him up for one of your online league teams.

Disgraceful behaviour.  You should be ashamed.

Oh, and dante is one of a large number of new forum members in the past few days.  ;)

A warm welcome to them all.

I only have understood that it has any special attitude to Russian after games on PokerStars and somewhere at a forum there are its statements in this occasion

Welcome to APAT jayvillanova. The National League is organised on a geographical basis and players are required to join the club nearest to where they live, which in your case is the Solent Club. You can join on this thread http://www.apat.com/forum/index.php?topic=2358.0
So welcome to APAT & welcome to the team.

Hi Andreas

Congratulations on your great result last night.

I sent you a personal message but in case you don"t see it I will post here also.

Would you like to join Solent Poker Club? We play in APAT's National League and are currently top of Division 2.
Clubs are organised geographically and players play for the club nearest to them so, as we are based on the South coast of England, we are the nearest club to you.
If you are interested, we have a game on Betfair tonight. If you can"t play then, you are welcome any time.

You can join on this thread  http://www.apat.com/forum/index.php?topic=2358.0
