OK, help required here, a question that I am getting conflicting views on.
What does the term 3 bet and 4 bet actually mean in no limit hold"em.
I know the term comes from limit or pot limit, does it mean the same
or something different when it is used in no limit.
The answers that I am getting are about 50/50, so APAT will have thew casting vote, ;D
I was going to put the 2 conflicting answers on here but that might influence you.
Any help will do,

the BB is Bet1, the first person to raise the BB is making Bet2, if some then re-raises that is Bet3, etc etc

I concur

Yes, the two above answers are correct.
The description, I believe, comes from Limit Poker where they is usually a cap on the number of raising bets per round. The standard cap is a bet and 3 raises.
So...BB = 1 bet
1st raise = 2 bet
2nd raise = 3 bet
3rd raise = 4 bet = Cap. From here you can only call.
NLHE seems to interpret this as...3bet = a re-raise and 4bet as re-re-raise.

I agree with the above.
What is this other conflicting view you speak of?

i have just had a look at this because i saw SirPerceval had a view on 3 betting and thought it would be interesting as he has never done it ;)

I agree with everyone else
put up the other opinion of what 3 betting is so we can have a laugh

Simple - 2bet and above only happen on my BB - sooo 2 bet and above is shaft the Duke :o no need for fancy numbers

Im assuming someone thought a 3bet pre was a 4bet. Pretty common mistake. I for one do not exercise either.
-
I"ve heard people call a reraise a 2 bet and a re-reraise a 3 bet.
-
Blieve it or not, a lot of players thought a 3 bet was a bet of 3 times the last bet.
this is 1 quote:
now for example blinds are 100/200, someone opens for 500 total (a raise of 300 and a 2.5 bet) a 3 bet in this situation would be 3 x the raise portion of the previous raise so 3x300+200=1,100 total. A lot of people think a 3 bet or a 4 bet are just 3x/4x the total bet being faced, so in the example above a lot of people think a 3 bet on the 500 total is 1,500.
A 3 bet is made on the previous bet or raise (not total where multiple action has occurred) (the same way a raise must the size of the previous bet or raise (eg 100/200 raise to 500, next raise can be a minimum of 300 more to 800 total)

Just because they get the terminology wrong doesn"t make them bad players....it"s likely..but not guaranteed. ;D

I like to back-raise.
None of this 3-betting malarkey.

Personally, I would never dream of targetting the duke"s BB ::)

Since this is an "embarrassing question" thread, I"ll ask one of my own.
What does FYP mean?

also post flop u hear the 2bet 3bet terms etc , on the flop u can get 1bet then a reraise is a 2bet, the 3bet is a re-re raise..
-
Isn"t there one too many re-s in there? Isn"t a 2-bet post-flop just a raise?

I love a good back-raise.
-
3-bet? Does it go check. check?
Oh that"s a free bet! ;D
Backraise, is this some form of booster seat??
-
The back raise is reserved for older folk and bald people. Proceed with caution.
