Can anyone recomend a good beginners poker book? I"m pretty new to the game but I"m being bombarded with well intentioned advice from all quarters - and a lot of it seems to be contradictory! Help.
-
get dan harrington on holdem... vol 1 and vol 2
you cannot go wrong with that especially as a beginner
it is the most solid book on texas hold em i believe
-
"Poker for Dummies" if you an absolute beginner is a great foundation to build from. Then you should have a look see at the Harrington books and the Theory of poker by David Sklansky.

Get yourself a subscription to PokerPlayer Magazine (hello again Sponsor - yes, I"m still a loyal subscriber!) and InsidePoker (also by Dennis Publishing). Both are consistently very good reads with IP having the best tutorials for beginners and intermediates IMO.
You can learn sooo much more by playing though and learning from your hopefully not-too-costly mistakes.

The must read -
Dan Harrington - Harrington On Hold'em Vol 1/2/3 = 3 books
Doyle Brunson - Super System 2
David Sklansky - The Theory Of Poker
read these books then reread then reread then read lol the bibles of poker
Training Site - Poker X Factor
Mag"s - WPT,Inside Poker,Poker Player - all out monthly where you get tips plus freeroll codes
Live Poker play - join a pub poker league to learn to shuffle and be relaxed at the table, you don"t want to be shaking at your first table. You might be a brilliant online player but everyone can spot these players and take advantage of thier lack of live table experience.
Good Luck !
P.S NEVER BUT NEVER say sorry when you win at the table !

You don"t need to buy a book to get a decent SnG strategy, the same advice is all over the internet... I would recomend looking at wardonkey"s article on blonde - http://www.blondepoker.com/index.php?q=node/3448 - this is the link to part one, see part 2 & 3 also.
For satellite advice read Arsiton"s two-parter on betfair - Part 1 (http://site.poker.betfair.com/newsandviews/article/itemId/i65768244/index.html) - Part 2 (http://site.poker.betfair.com/newsandviews/article/itemId/i65768359/index.html)

WarDonkey is no relation of mine, but I also have a book in the pipeline. It"s advanced strategy for beating the queue"s to the free buffet of big MTT"s.

I"ll pre-order that one. Somehow I always manage to get myself involved in a big hand just before the break.

A book? I don"t mean to hamper your JK Rowling-like earning potential War, but I think I can sum it up in a sentence - donk all your chips off before the buffet break and sit out the first sit"n"go!! It works for me! I"ve yet to experience the lukewarm buffet scraps that I leave for all the good players!
