A quite disappointing turn-out for the first OnLive Satelllite at 55. Still, I"m doin OK despite donking off 700 chips with pocket tens early on.

Kinboshi would have been cringing at our table - astonville and max4matt both All-In with KK pre-flop on the first hand!!!  ;D  His name was in the chatbox twice by the time the river was dealt!

I had pocket Kings just before the Button with blinds 75-150, with 2 callers I raise to 650.

Big stack calls.

Flop = Nine - Ace - Jack, and my single oppo bets 600, think he has paired that Ace but call.

Turn = Jack, I"m done but my oppo goes allin. I fold and he shows Ace - Six.

Still in at First break, but need chips...

I"ve had a couple of donk moments - calling down with TT with an A on the flop, calling an All-In for a third of my chips with ATo, raising to 600 with only 1,200 behind with 44 in early position short stacked, I"m re-raised so I fold.

3rd bottom at the break and much to do!

I wont bore you but yet another bad beat sends me packing.

Suprised only a turn-out of 55 considering rumours were the main event was going to attract a field in the 1000"s.

see yer tomorrow at 8pm.

Just exited, my allin with Jack - Ten suited facing a call from pocket Kings.

Flop gave my a Gutshot, but the Turn and River provided nothing.

If all of the above is deemed adequate promotion then why send an email prior to the second two?

I was simply curious why there was no reminder before the first two satellites... the online championship series are regualr events but they still get an email reminder (not sure if it"s for every one of them) as well as a topic started both here and on blonde (and poss THMF?).

The rationale is simple enough.

Promoting any event 3 or 4 days out is a waste of time (as you know, some people forget!), so the ideal promotion of these events would have seen an email promoting the first two satellites on Saturday evening last, an email promoting the second two satellites on Wednesday evening and an email promoting the OnLive event itself on Saturday.  Three emails in a week is at least one (probably two) too many, hence our dropping the first.  The other two will happen.

Throw into the mix further email communications around the UK event (pre & post) on December 8th & 9th and the Regional event and OnLive final table (pre & post) on December 15th plus Online Series events happening during that time and you might be able to appreciate why we cut back on emails where possible.

Second hand - flopped quad sevens.  Got a little from that hand.  Then not too long later, I had AKc on the button, and managed to clean someone out with the nut flush when he bluff pushed all-in on the river!

I know it was a satelite and not a points tourney

Didn"t play, but would be interested what people thought of the tourney.

I know Duke liked it

Was it a donkshoot? Or could the online series take a similar format with success?

Players.........advise........
Title: Re: Onlive satellites
Post by: kinboshi on November 30, 2007, 12:08:05 PM
Very much a donkfest at times, but ideal for a satellite.  Too quick for the online series (IMHO).

Need a LOT of luck in these things, and I got all mine early on, was chip leader and then had the "bad beats" when people are willing to commit their tournament lives on gutshots or top pair no kicker.  Can"t complain though - as these are the players you want to play against.    The problem is that if you have a quick succession of outdraws - you"re a gonner.

There"s enough play early doors, but once the blinds go up the majority are effectively fairly short-stacked and it"s a case of who can win the races.

(Note to BlueSQ - those cards you gave me in the first level - can I have them a little later in the tournament next time please.  Many thanks.)

And tonight"s Bad Beat prize tonight goes to Phil Crozier (so far)

He makes an A high straight on the turn, and cleverly goads kaleem1 into an All-In. Phil turns an A high straight and leads two pair. Kaleem hits one of his 3 outs when the K comes on the river for a Full House. There were only two guy at the table who could have taken him out ...

Then went out - all-in with 9 5 only to be called by the mighty 5 6, who hit a 6 on the river.

Raised pre-flop with 4h5h on button, SB folds, BB calls. Board 3h9hJs (flush draw), my All-In is called by 8s8d. Turn Jc, River Jh gives me my flush but him a Full House.

Not moaning - I was 40/60 at best on flop!

You play on BlueSQ in an APAT event, or play at an APAT regional event you are automatically an APAT member.

It would not surprise me if we are starting with less than 150.

I believe a lot of our players will perceive a $110 buy in as a no go area, particularly online.  They will associate it with very "high-end" tournaments.

Which could be good news for those taking part as the value will be superb, even if the physical prize money is not.

I certainly do not think we will pick up too much passing traffic from Blue Square on a Sunday afternoon.  We will soon see.

If I spread bet this against a few people I could break even on the pint factor.

Although I have a better idea. I will take all the odd numbers and someone can take all the even numbers and for each one we get wrong we have to buy the other a drink, and vice versa.

Sounds like a plan
